Her current bill was $70.59 causing her to complain to the meter man and the company via phone. So she said she refused to pay the bill. The electric company turned off the lights but the meter man came back to turn on the lights after the company found the error was their fault. Geez either $50.59 or $70.59, I'd be happy with either one considering the prices now.

Vint, Naomi, Bubba and Iola each had plans out of town which left Thelma home alone. She got numerous errands done without interruption for the first time in years which she loved. But soon boredom and loneliness set in and she was thrilled when they all came home.

Thelma was accidentally arrested along with homeless people among whom was a child and her mother along with her Cousin Cora. She explained she became homeless shortly after her husband died and lost their farm. Thelma offered Cora a place at her home with promises of getting her own place with their help.

Iola pranked Thelma by bringing her a lemon sponge cake under a non-see through cake container. She took the top off and it was a single lemon on top of six sponges. Bubba pranked Thelma twice: hand buzzer and shaving cream on the telephone. Vint switched the sugar and salt but Thelma knew all about their tricks and switched them back. Vint was putting "sugar" in his coffee remembering his switch but didn't know Thelma switched them back. Imagine drinking your coffee with salt.

After many mistakes made by the President of the CLL, Lolly Purdue, the executive committee made up of Thelma, Iola, Inez and Florence decided to impeach her. We came to find out Lolly Purdue's mistakes were because she couldn't read. With Thelma's help she kept her position as President of the CLL and was learning to read.

Vint and Naomi were getting $300 but Thelma was about to get a refund of $250. That is until she opened her mouth about income she didn't declare. She was told by the auditor she'd have to refile which meant no refund and late fees.

Vint's invention was Petlocks and Iola's was Invalid Tosser. Mr. Wheeler asked for $800 in good faith money which Thelma refused to Vint. After a detective said he was a con artist she decided to plot with the detective to catch Mr. Wheeler in the act.

Thelma told Bubba about the leaves, come to find out their neighbor Frank Gebhart blew the leaves onto her yard. She later found out Bubba became engaged to Frank's granddaughter Terri. But after burying the hatchet between them the feud was considered over. Bubba and Terri then had a fight and the Harper-Gebhart Feud started all over again.

Thelma and Iola bought tickets together as they couldn't afford separate tickets. Mrs. Boylen claimed to be too sick and Iola had to stay home. With urging from Thelma, Iola told her mother to quit faking it and Mrs. Boylen kicked her out of the house. Iola overstayed her welcome at the Harper house quickly.

She starched Bubba's jeans so much they could stand up on their own. She put slip covers on the furniture without Thelma's permission and rearranged her kitchen also without permission. Iola made dinner during which Thelma and the family made it like it was the worst dinner they ever had right down to the dishes. Iola stomped back home and said she was taking her mother and not Thelma.

Vint and Naomi took Thelma to the psychiatrist office to interview them for an adoption of a baby. But due to Thelma making it all about her at the interview she made it impossible for Vint and Naomi to ever adopt a baby. It didn't matter as Naomi went to a doctor for second opinion and she was already pregnant.
