Bubba came downstairs feeling ill so Thelma gave him a spoonful of her tonic and like clockwork he got better. Vint and Naomi hatched a make money scheme by selling "Mama's Miracle Tonic". But it was made with vanilla which is mostly alcohol which if anyone drank enough of it would be drunk.

A lot of the tonic was sold to the church ladies league and they were all drunk even Alberta Meechum the reverend's wife.

Heather was hired at Kwik Keys and Vint was showing her the ropes. The thing of it was she was a bubbly, blue eyed blonde and young lady. Thelma and Iola wrongly suspected they were having an affair but all Vint saw was a co-worker nothing more.

Iola met Burt Cooper after he came to the Boylen house to sell them a hospital bed. He was a domineering man who had her cut his meat, refresh his drink, more whip cream on his strawberries. He even had plans to move into the Boylen home after sending Mr. and Mrs. Boylen to the worst nursing home on Iola's dime. Finally Thelma had enough after he called Iola a pitiful old maid she sprayed him with cool whip. Iola asked, "Thelma! You forgot the strawberries!" She poured the strawberries on top of Burt's head.

Vint, Naomi and Bubba installed an intercom in the house at the upstairs bathroom, the porch, the living room, the basement and the kitchen. After hearing what they thought of her she told Iola what she thought of them. Naomi never lifted a finger around here making a slug look ambitious. Vint has never grown up as he still acts like a kid. Bubba kept some white goo on his nose cause his girlfriend Terry kept telling him things as she was a cosmetology major.

She never saw a boy so in love with himself.

Thelma became attracted to actor Leslie Lemoyne and they soon became an item. She wrongly believed he was truly the "Widow Waster". But it took the family to tell her he was an actor on "Tri-States Most Wanted".

Thelma hosted a radio show in the Harper house using the family and Iola as her staff. Bubba and Vint tried donuts in the tri-state area and found out none of the Raytown shops had the best. Naomi tried a beauty mask which left red splotches on her face making her cry. Iola tested the burgers in the tri-state area and found none of the Raytown burger places made the cut.

The radio fired her because she bad mouthed the sponsors in Raytown.

Thelma went on a date with a classmate and he pulled the "car ran out of gas on a dark deserted road" trick. She put him in a arm lock when he tried to get fresh. He spread the rumor of her being hot for him giving her the nickname "Hotpants".

Vint would pick Rita up at her place and they had nice conversations or so Vint thought. But when Madame Rita's alter ego was telling things only the family would know Thelma finally thought the lady might know a thing or two. But she found out Vint was telling her everything.

Naomi tried telling a joke but it was a little racy for her tastes. Iola gave her a joke about making a cake and realize you need eggs you buy them and come home and realize you need milk too. Vint tried to make a doggie out of a balloon but he could manage was a snake.

These cakes were so elaborate with loads of icing, candies and many layers. Each of the Bonecrushers were of the metal band type but dressed in Iola's dresses and sang sweet songs to help sell the cakes at the church bake sale. Afterwards they returned to their normal clothes but Thelma still liked them.
