Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In "The Curse of Cornelius Sigan", why did Cedric try to replace Merlin as Arthur's manservant?

Answer: to get the keys to gain access to the treasure beneath Camelot

Cedric heard about the treasure that was found beneath Camelot and decided he should steal it. However, he had to get the keys to unlock the passage, and those keys were kept in Arthur's chambers. The only person with access to them was his servant, Merlin. Cedric tried to make Merlin look like an incompetent servant, so Cedric could become Arthur's new servant.

This worked, and Cedric gained access to the treasure. However, he got more than he bargained for when he tried stealing a stone, which contained the soul of Cornelius Sigan, who was at one time the most powerful sorcerer to have lived.
2. In "The Nightmare Begins", what important thing happened regarding Morgana?

Answer: She learned that she had magic.

At night, Morgana woke up from one of her nightmares and accidentally set fire to the curtains in her chambers. She believed that she had magic. Merlin suggested that she visit the druids who help people with magic. One of the druids, Aglain, told Morgana that she did indeed have magic and that it would be some time before she had control over it.
3. In "Beauty and the Beast", Uther married someone who was disguised as Lady Catrina. What type of creature was it?

Answer: troll

Lady Catrina was really a troll in disguise. Gaius realized something was wrong when he noticed that Lady Catrina was not limping. As a child, she had a rare bone disorder which affected her joints and was supposedly incurable and caused her to limp. As a troll, Catrina was greedy and wanted power, so she decided to marry Uther so she could have the wealth and power that a queen had.
4. When Merlin revealed that Lady Catrina was not who she claimed to be, Uther was the only one that still saw her as a human. Why did he not see her as she truly was when everyone else could?

Answer: Uther wore the enchanted necklace Lady Catrina gave to him.

Merlin switched the potion that Lady Catrina normally took to maintain her human form with a similar potion that did nothing. Therefore, Catrina reverted back to her troll form. However, Uther still saw as a human, because he wore the necklace Lady Catrina gave to him. The necklace also made Uther fall in love with Catrina quicker than he normally would.
The only way for Uther to see Catrina as she truly was (a troll) was for him to shed tears of true sorrow. This was accomplished by making Uther believe that Arthur had died.
5. How was Morgause related to Morgana?

Answer: half-sister

Morgause was a half-sister to Morgana. Gaius realized that a bracelet that Morgause wore had the symbol of the house of Gorlois on it. Gaius also revealed that he had smuggled Morgause out of Camelot when she was young and entrusted her to the high priestesses of the Old Religion. Uther had believed that Morgause died during the Great Purge.
6. In "Sweet Dreams", Arthur had an enchantment placed on him, so he would be in love with Lady Vivian. Who was Vivian's father who disapproved of her being in love?

Answer: Olaf

Lady Vivian's father was King Olaf. Alined was the name of the king who wanted to start a war between Camelot and Olaf's (unnamed) kingdom, so an enchantment was placed on Arthur, so that Arthur would fall in love with Lady Vivian. Olaf was such an overprotective person that he was willing to issue a fight to the death to ensure that she would be protected.
7. Among other things, what power does the Crystal of Neathid have?

Answer: see into the future

The Crystal of Neathid can see into the future. However, not everyone can wield the power of the crystal. Merlin was the only seen to wield its power, although the Great Dragon theorized that Mordred could also wield the power of the crystal. The Crystal of Neathid was an instrument of the Old Religion and therefore was taken away from the sorcerers during the Great Purge. Uther didn't know exactly what it did but knew that since it involved magic it had to be guarded and out of the hands of sorcerers.
8. Who took Morgana away from Camelot at the end of "The Fires of Idirsholas"?

Answer: Morgause

Morgause took Morgana away from Camelot. All of Camelot was put to sleep by a spell, of which Morgana was the source. The Great Dragon told Merlin that he had to kill the source, and Merlin did that by poisoning Morgana. Morgause came into the room and noticed Morgana poisoned.

She made a deal with Merlin: she would stop the Knights of Medhir from attacking if Merlin would give her the cure.
9. What did Merlin use to free the Great Dragon?

Answer: A sword from the Knights of Medhir

After having defeated the Knights of Medhir, Merlin took one of their swords and used it to free the Great Dragon. Earlier in the season, Merlin offered to set the Great Dragon free if the dragon would help him. The dragon did, and eventually Merlin did set him free using a sword and a spell.

The sword was made from the Old Religion, which was strong enough to break the chains that kept the Great Dragon imprisoned. Once free, the dragon caused havoc on Camelot and its residents.
10. During the Great Purge, what did Uther do with most of the dragonlords?

Answer: He ordered their execution.

Dragonlords were men that tamed dragons. Gaius told Merlin that Uther believed that the dragonlords were too close to magic, so he had the dragonlords rounded up and ordered their execution. However, Gaius did help one dragonlord escape Camelot. That person was Balinor, Merlin's father.
