Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. During the first leg of this race, team members needed to bungee jump off the Verzasco Dam in which European nation?

Answer: Switzerland

Teams flew from Los Angeles to either Zurich or Milan in this first leg of the race and then took the train to Locarno, Switzerland in the Alps for an overnight stay. Teams were surprised with an early Road Block task involving a bungee jump off one of the highest dams in the world before they needed to travel by train to Interlaken for a unique cheese-rolling task in which they had to carry large wheels of cheese down a steep hillside. Upon checking in at the first Pit Stop, Margie and Luke placed first while Preston and Jennifer were narrowly beaten out by Christie and Jodi .
2. Heading to Bavaria in Leg 2, teams visited a mountain in Ruhpolding for a Road Block. Although the task was delayed for most, what was it supposed to involve?

Answer: Hanggliding

Flying to Munich in Leg 2, the ten remaining teams drove through rural Germany to the Bavarian Alps. All of the teams needed to advance to a mountaintop and one member of each team was asked to hangglide down the mountain. Due to poor wind conditions, teams also had the option of running down the side of the mountain, an hour-long hike, to get to the same clue box. Only Mel (of Mel and Mike) waited to complete the task due to Mel's bad knee.

After this, teams' next clues were in the town of Schönau am Königsee before they checked in at a Pit Stop in Salzburg, Austria that night.
3. In Romania in Leg 3, teams visited a Pit Stop overlooking what famous Gothic castle?

Answer: Bran Castle

In Leg 3, the remaining teams needed to fly from Germany to the capital city of Romania, Bucharest. After completing a gymnastic-themed Road Block, it was off on a train ride to the town of Brasov and a clue box at the side of Biserica Neagră. The Detour for this leg of the race involved either opening bloody coffins in the forests next to Bran Castle (upon which Dracula's Castle was originally based) or helping a gypsy encampment shift from one location to another.

The Pit Stop was at a panoramic villa overlooking the Romanian countryside and Bran Castle itself. Brad and Victoria were eliminated here after a poor flight choice early on in the leg.
4. In Leg 4, teams traveled to Krasnoyarsk Hydroelectric Dam in Russia based on a picture found on which of these?

Answer: A ten Ruble note

Leaving from Bucharest, the teams had to fly to Moscow and then to Krasnoyarsk in Siberia based solely on the image depicted on a ten Ruble banknote. When teams visited the Krasnoyarsk Hydroelectric Dam they found a clue sending them to Ovsyanka, a more rural district.

Much of this leg involved frustrating labor tasks in a Siberian village in addition to the first-ever Blind U-Turn (which caught Amanda and Kris in its wake). When teams arrived at the Krasnoyarsk Theater of Musical Comedy, Amanda and Kris were sent home.
5. For a task in Novosibirsk, Russia, in Leg 5, teams had to run up to this National Ballet Theater wearing which of the following?

Answer: Nothing but their underwear

Taking the Trans-Siberean Railway out of Krasnoyarsk in Leg 5, teams faced freezing temperatures on their way into Novosibirsk. Here, for a Detour, teams either had to deal with the piles and piles of snow or delivering a Russian bride to her groom. At the end of the leg, teams completed a Road Block task in which one member of each had to run from the Gosudarstvennaya Publichnaya Nauchnaya Tekhnicheskaya Biblioteka (it's a library) to the Pit Stop inside the Novosibirsk Opera and Ballet Theatre, approximately two and a half kilometers away.
6. In front of the Amber Fort in Jaipur, India, teams needed to feed which type of animal during a Road Block task in Leg 6?

Answer: Camel

Teams left the frigid cold of Siberia and entered the blazing heat of one of India's most populated cities, Jaipur. Here, teams found an open area in front of the Amber Fort where they needed to give food and water to a group of camels before heading onward.

This was the Road Block task. Elephants were a part of the Speed Bump completed by Christie and Jodi-- they had to clean one to continue through the race. The Detour for this leg of the race involved wither a delivery or a dance session in the streets of Jaipur before everyone checked in at the mat atop the Jaigarh Fort.
7. The seventh and eighth legs of the race, the latter of which involved riding long-tail boats, were set in which Southeast Asian nation?

Answer: Thailand

In Legs 7 and 8, teams flew from India to Thailand. The first of these legs was set in Phuket (including a stop-over at the Phuket Zoo). At the end of this leg, Margie (of Margie and Luke) collapsed due to heat exhaustion at the Pit Stop, mainly due to an intense Detour in the heat. Mark and Michael also ended up receiving time penalties for intentionally tampering with race equipment. In Bangkok in Leg 8, teams raced through flooded streets and took to the canals to complete the leg.

At the Pit Stop at Phaya Thai Palace, Mark and Michael arrived in last place yet again due to penalties-- they would begin the next leg three hours behind the other teams.
8. In Leg 9, the five remaining teams traveled to China, specifically what city containing the Sun and Moon Pagodas?

Answer: Guilin

Leaving Thailand at the start of Leg 9, teams were told to hop on planes to China, flying into the prefecture-level city of Guilin. Upon arriving, Mark and Michael were tasked with their Speed Bump while the other teams set out on the Li River to catch fish (using trained cormorants). For the Detour, teams had to learn a dance routine or practice Chinese calligraphy before checking into the Pit Stop on Banyan Lake in front of the Sun and Moon Pagodas.

Here, some of the teams got into an argument while Mark and Michael, still too far behind because of previous penalties, were eliminated.
9. In Beijing in the double-length Leg 10, which team arrived at the Pit Stop in front of the Bird's Nest in last place because they stopped to use a restroom?

Answer: Kisha and Jen

For Leg 10, teams arrived in Beijing late in the night and completed a series of tasks (including getting a painful foot massage and swimming or diving in an Olympic pool) before arriving at the North Gate Drum Tower for what they assumed was a Pit Stop. Upon landing on the mat, however, the teams were told to keep racing into the next day.

This second half of the leg involved a number of cultural tasks involving the opera, languages, and incredible foods at the Donghuamen Night Market before teams were sent to the Pit Stop in front of the Bird's Nest, Beijing's Olympic Stadium.

After drinking so much water to get the food down at the Road Block task, Jen needed to use a port-a-potty on the way to the Pit Stop. As a result, Jaime and Cara sneaked past, edging them out of the race by less than two minutes.
10. On which island did the final three teams visit McGregor Point and step across the finish line in this season?

Answer: Maui

In the eleventh and final leg of the race, the last three teams were sent to the island of Maui, their final destination. Here, teams headed to head to the beach to prepare a luau feast. Then, they had to ride the waves aboard jet skis to find a clue amongst hundreds of buoys in the Pacific. During a Road Block task at a surfboard fence at Kaohu Farms, one team had trouble getting the correct order of events in the race; another team had taxi troubles en route to the finish.

As such, Tammy and Victor were the first team to cross the finish line at the King Kamehameha Golf Club, winning the million dollar prize.
