Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Where was the starting line for "The Amazing Race 14"?

Answer: Los Angeles

Teams arrived at the starting line of the race in military helicopters, and upon arriving at Los Alamitos Joint Forces Training Base, Phil Keoghan sent the eleven teams of two off on their race around the world for one million dollars. At his 'GO!' teams made their way to their first clues laying on their backpacks and were told to fly to Europe to make their way to Locarno, Switzerland. To do this, teams would need to hop into a marked car and get to Los Angeles International Airport where they would need to secure tickets on one of two possible flights to their next destinations.
2. To reach the city of Locarno, Switzerland, teams could fly to either Zurich or which other city?

Answer: Milan

While six teams flew to Zurich, Switzerland, the other five flew to Milan, Italy. Once at their respective destinations, teams needed to take the train to their clue at Locarno. For some teams, this was a chance to get ahead on the Swiss rails. Upon arriving in Locarno, teams needed to locate the Church of Sant'Antonio where they could sign up for one of three departure times leaving the next morning. Everyone settled in for an overnight stay at a local hotel in the meantime.
3. What harrowing task did teams need to perform during the first Road Block of the race in Switzerland (Leg 1)?

Answer: Bungee jump

The following morning, the priest at Church of Sant'Antonio gave teams the image of Verzasca Dam located in the city of Tenero-Contra. Teams made their way there to find a daunting Road Block task. For this task, one member of each team was required to strap into a harness and perform the world's second-highest bungee jump. Once that team member made it back to the top, they would be able to continue on. Jaime, Jen, Jodi, Kris, Luke, Michael, Mike, Preston, Steve, Victor, and Victoria completed this task before carrying on with the leg.
4. At Kleine Rugen Wiese in Leg 1 (in Switzerland), what did teams need to transport?

Answer: Cheese

After the Road Block, teams headed to the train station to catch a ride to the city of Interlaken where they located their next clue box at Kleine Rugen Wiese. Here, both team members needed to strap into traditional cheese-carrying equipment and climb a steep hill to transport four wheels of cheese to the bottom. Each wheel weighed fifty pounds.

As soon as teams stacked their wheels at the bottom of the hill, they were able to receive their next clue.
5. Which was the first team to be eliminated from the race (in Leg 1)?

Answer: Preston and Jennifer

After a cheesy task, teams were told to drive themselves to Stechelberg to find a parking lot outside Hotel Stechelberg. Once there, teams would need to keep their ears open for the sound of yodelers who would signal the location of the race's first Pit Stop at Alpenhof Stechelberg.

Here, Margie and Luke took a first place victory on the first leg winning a trip for two to Mexico courtesy of Travelocity. In the end, it came down to a footrace between Christy and Jodi and Preston and Jennifer where the latter team was the last to arrive.

They became the first to be eliminated from the race.
6. In the beginning of Leg 2, teams were told to fly from Switzerland to what European country?

Answer: Germany

Departing from the Pit Stop at the Alpenhof Stechelberg, teams were informed that they would need to make their way to the airport to fly to Munich, Germany. Heading to the airport in Zurich, all ten teams took the same flight to their next destination. Once there, they would need to hop into taxis to make their way to the German town of Ruhpolding in Bavaria to find their next route marker waiting.
7. Who was the only person to complete the paragliding Road Block task in Leg 2?

Answer: Mel

Heading to Ruhpolding, teams found their second Road Block task at Rauschberg after taking a funicular to the top of a mountain. This task required that one member of each team paraglide down the side of a Bavarian mountain. If the winds were too unfavorable, team members would need to take an extensive hour-long hike down the side of the mountain. Tammy, Kris, Linda, Margie, Cara, Victoria, Jen, Christie, and Mark all ran down the mountain while Mel waited through the bad wind to paraglide down.
8. In the pie-throwing Detour task in Leg 2, what flavour of pie filling did teams need to find?

Answer: Cherry

At the bottom of the Road Block mountain, teams were given a clue instructing them to drive twenty-five miles to the next route marker at Schonau am Konigsee. Here, teams found a Detour allowing teams to choose between 'Balancing Dolly' and 'Austrian Folly'.

In 'Balancing Dolly', teams needed to take a two mile obstacle course on Segways to receive a clue. In 'Austrian Folly', teams needed to toss pies at one another's faces until they found one containing cherry filling to receive their clue. Mel and Mike, Jaime and Cara, Kisha and Jen, and Mark and Michael completed 'Balancing Dolly' while the other six teams finished 'Austrian Folly'.
9. In the end of the second leg of the race, teams had to drive to which country to reach their second Pit Stop?

Answer: Austria

After the Detour, teams traveled on foot around the town of Schonau am Konigsee to the Holzsäger where wood-carved woodsmen would saw a log for the teams and an attendant would stamp their next clue on the piece. This clue led teams to their next Pit Stop in the city of Salzburg, Austria, Schloss Hellbrunn. To get there, teams needed to drive out of the Bavarian Alps and out of Germany.
10. Which team was eliminated in the second leg of the race?

Answer: Steve and Linda

Reaching the city of Salzburg, Austria, teams were told to locate Schloss Hellbrunn, the location of their next Pit Stop. Here, Tammy and Victor achieved a first place win. As a result they were rewarded with hybrid go-karts, one each. Although Christie and Jodi ended up missing their last clue for a while, they once again took second-to-last place and stayed safe while Steve and Linda became the second team eliminated.
