Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In Leg 1, teams checked in at the first Pit Stop atop this tower found in the capital city of what starting country?

Answer: Malaysia

This tower, the Menara Kuala Lumpur, was the first Pit Stop in a race around Asia. To get there, teams needed to travel on foot through the winding jungle trails of the Bukit Nanas Forest Reserve and check in on the observation deck. Although Andrew and Syeon arrived in first place, their failure to follow the trail dropped them to fifth. Mardy and Marsio ended up taking the lead while Sandy and Francesca dropped to tenth.

They were, however, spared from elimination.
2. In Leg 3, Tanah Lot Temple was the site of which of the following?

Answer: Pit Stop

While teams headed to Indonesia (specifically Jakarta) in Leg 2, they proceeded onward to the island of Bali and the beautiful beaches and jungles therein. While in Bali, teams needed to head along the coastline until they reached Tanah Lot Temple, their third Pit Stop for the race.

This site is notable for the amount of time penalties incurred by the teams; five groups of the nine remaining were struck with four hour penalties because they opted out of completing a very difficult Road Block task.

While Zabrina and Joe Jer placed first, their time penalty dropped them to fifth place and Mardy and Marsio won their second leg.
3. In Leg 4, how many teams climbed the landmark depicted?

Answer: Four

With eight teams remaining, everyone made their way from Bali, Indonesia to Sydney, Australia. After picking up a clue at Dawes Point, a Detour task, everyone chose to either deshell prawns at a local restaurant (for the 'Crustacean' task) or climb the Sydney Harbour Bridge (for the 'Elevation' task). Andy and Laura, Sharon and Melody, Howard and Sahran, and Zabrina and Joe Jer ended up completing the task, enjoying the view from atop the bay.
4. In Leg 5 in Auckland, New Zealand, both team members needed to complete a bungee jump off the Sky Tower.

Answer: False

Although both team members needed to ascend to the top of the Sky Tower in Auckland in Leg 5 (even going so far as to take a ladder to the very top of the structure via the Vertigo Climb), only one member of each team participated in the jump off the tower.

Instead, the other team member needed to wait at the bottom and use a Sony CyberShot camera to capture the moment in a snapshot. Andy, Andrew, Zabrina, Howard, Prashant, Francesca, Marsio, and Sharon completed this task before everyone headed to the next Pit Stop at the Auckland Museum.
5. The bungee Road Block task in Leg 6 was held in what country?

Answer: New Zealand

Surprisingly, as teams made their way through New Zealand for a second leg, they encountered another big jump for their Road Block task. Traveling to the Nevis Highwire Platform in New Zealand, one member of each team needed to take the plunge in one of the world's highest bungee jumps. If they froze up for longer than two minutes during their turn they would need to return to the back of the line; it was imperative to avoid this since teams made their way to the sixth Pit Stop at the Chard Farm Winery immediately after.
6. Visiting Singapore in Leg 7, teams stopped off at which depicted landmark in Suntec City?

Answer: Fountain of Wealth

Flying from New Zealand to Singapore in Leg 7, teams needed to stop off for only two clues before flying out again (almost immediately) to Thailand. Before this third country in a single leg, the six remaining teams ended up visiting the Fountain of Wealth in Suntec City to receive some good luck.

They needed it-- later on in the leg, when they stopped off at the Golden Mount in Bangkok, Thailand, they needed to search through hundreds of bells for only six containing a slip of paper and their clue.
7. Visiting India in the second half of Leg 9, which team was Yielded at the landmark shown?

Answer: Andy and Laura

Taking the train from Kolkata, India to Delhi in the two-part ninth leg of the race, teams journeyed to the Red Fort to find the first of only two Yields in the entire race. Upon arriving at this spot, Sandy and Francesca used the race mechanic to prevent Andy and Laura from claiming the nearby clue.

The setback ultimately caused them to fall to last place and face elimination at the Pit Stop, Jain Mandir Dada Bari. While in Delhi, teams also had to deliver spices or onions depending on their Detour choice and make dung cakes for the Road Block.
8. During Leg 10, teams visited the indoor ski hill depicted in what Middle Eastern city/territory?

Answer: Dubai

Although much of Leg 10 (and subsequent Leg 11) took place in the luxurious desert city of Dubai in the United Arab Emirates, a unique Detour sent teams to Ski Dubai, an indoor ski hill found in the Mall of the Emirates, one of the largest shopping centers in the world.

Here, teams could either hike up to the top of the ski hill (with ski equipment in tow) or break through an ice block. In Leg 10, teams also played a round of golf, rode on abras through the canals of the city and headed to a Pit Stop in the Margham Sand Dunes.
9. In Leg 11, teams visited the Eye of the Emirates and needed to find a clue inside one of how many carriages?

Answer: Forty-two

Although teams spent a good deal of Leg 11 enjoying the local fare in Dubai (brains), taking rides on water slides at Wild Wadi Water Park, and riding camels in the desert, one of the more memorable tasks of the season (which later appeared in the Australian debut season) involved riding a ferris wheel to find a clue, at random, in one of the pods.

This occurred at the Eye of the Emirates in Sharjah, UAE. Here, the final four teams kept searching through the forty-two cabins for one of five clues hidden inside.

They would need to go around the entire rotation before trying again.
10. Which Malaysian National Park was contained the finish line for the first season of "The Amazing Race Asia" in Leg 12?

Answer: Bako National Park

When teams finally left Dubai in Leg 12, they were told to fly to the city of Kuala Lampur, Malaysia to revisit Menara Kuala Lampur, the first Pit Stop of the race. Here, the final three were told to take a domestic flight to Kuching, Malaysia, their final destination.

After visiting several cultural landmarks in the area and taking a boat ride towards Bako National Park, it was Zabrina and Joe Jer who stepped on the finish line in first place becoming the first all-female team to win any "Amazing Race" season internationally.

They were followed by Sandy and Francesca and Andrew and Syeon.
