Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. The role of the imposing yet all-too-human Mr. Justice Deed is played by which well known British actor?

Answer: Martin Shaw

Born in Birmingham, UK on 21 January 1945, Martin Shaw's name and face are very familiar to viewers throughout the world from his performances in such such shows as 'The Professionals' and the highly acclaimed mini series 'The Scarlet Pimpernel'.
2. Jenny Seagrove plays barrister Jo Mills, a former pupil and love interest of the good judge. What are the names of the two sons that Jo had during her marriage?

Answer: Tom and Mark

Jo Mills and John Deed have a long and complicated romantic history. We find out as the series progresses that Jo once had an abortion after falling pregnant to John but that she had never told him. She is very proud of her two boys whom she has raised virtually alone since the death of her husband.
3. Louisa Clein made her television debut in the first episode, entitled 'Rough Justice' (also screened under the title 'Exacting Justice'). What role does Louisa play in the series?

Answer: Charlotte 'Charlie' Deed

Georgina Channing is the judge's ex-wife with whom he has a rather stormy and sometimes comical relationship.

Lady Francesca Rochester is one of the many women with whom he has had a romantic liaison.

Mrs. Rita Cooper is the judge's likeable and motherly clerk.
4. Although John Deed is divorced he has a very close relationship with his ex-father-in-law, Joseph.

Answer: False

Sir Joseph Channing, also a High Court judge, despises his former son-in-law and spends a good deal of his time working to discredit him and have him removed from his place on the bench.
5. Mark Thompson is a man who is desperately in love with Jo Mills and wants to marry her. What is Mark's profession?

Answer: He is a doctor.

Mark fell for Jo almost from the start. He is the biological father of Michael, a young boy Jo was desperately trying to adopt. The role of Dr. Mark Thompson is played by Adrian Lukis, well known to fans of Andrew Davies' television mini series 'Pride and Prejudice' as the scheming Mr. George Wickham!
6. The defendant was Maurice Hart, Mr. Justice Deed presided, Jo Mills filled her usual role as defence barrister while Mr. Stafford-Clarke led for the prosecution. With what crime was Maurice Hart charged?

Answer: The murder of a man who had killed his daughter, Mona.

The trial of Maurice Hart for the murder of Alex Redburn drew enormous amounts of sympathy for him from the British public. The Lord Chancellor's department wanted to be certain that Mr. Hart was used as an example for others who thought about taking the law into their own hands but the jury, the public and even the judge himself had other ideas!
7. Diana Hulsey did not live long enough to have her final day in court. What happened to her?

Answer: She died as a result of the brain tumor she believed she had contracted as the result of mobile phone use and was suing the manufacturers of the phone at the time of her death.

Diana Hulsey knew she was dying and believed the mobile phone she had used was the reason for her brain tumor. Jo Mills not only defended Diana's case before Mr. Justice Deed but also ended up fighting for custody of her young son after his mother's death.
8. In one of the many attempts by members of the establishment to discredit and destroy the judge, what was placed on his office computer?

Answer: Child pornography

It was the finding of the pornography on his office computer that once and for all showed the judge just how far members of the LCD and other enemies were prepared to go in order to end his career. The offending material was removed with literally seconds to spare before a police search would have unearthed it and resulted in the judge facing criminal charges.
9. Louisa Clein's character has earned the extreme displeasure of members of the Channing family in the pilot episode because of what?

Answer: Her political activism and her choice of university.

John Deed is very proud of his only child and staunchly defends her when her mother and grandfather find fault with her, which is often. By choosing to study law at Sussex rather than Oxford, Charlie greatly offended the snobbish Channing clan, particularly her grandfather.
10. Georgina has never once lost a case over which Mr. Justice Deed has presided.

Answer: False

Poor 'George' is certainly a good lawyer but her ex-husband often shows her up in court and reveals her shortcomings. Having Jo Mills as opposing counsel seems to be her worst legal nightmare and it happens very frequently!
