Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Upon Spike's arrival in Sunnydale, he crashes his car into the "Welcome to Sunnydale" sign. What is the population of the town listed on the sign?

Answer: 38,500

Spike's glorious entrance is repeated in the episode "Lovers Walk." The difference is in his exit from the car.
2. Which of the following is not true regarding Spike's physical appearance and wardrobe as he steps out of the car.

Answer: Spike is not wearing his characteristic black leather duster yet.

Throughout the series Spike's wardrobe changes little. The duster is missing in very few scenes, this is not one of them. Occasionally his wardrobe will change slightly, for example Spike wears a blue button shirt over the black t-shirt, a black paisley button shirt during a dream sequence, leather pants instead of his faded black jeans, and a bright blue long sleeve shirt at the beginning of season seven.

Spike's facial prosthesis bears James' eyebrow scar which is worked into the storyline in "Fool for Love" where we learn that the Chinese slayer's sword cuts him during their fight. Unlike the average, run-of-the-mill vampires in the series, Spike wears his vamped-out face very little, allowing him to blend in more effectively.
3. What are Spike's first words spoken after arriving in Sunnydale?

Answer: "Home, sweet home."

He speaks these same words in "Lovers Walk," the difference is the delivery.
4. While fighting Spike's lackey in the alley, Buffy tells Xander to get her a stake. In The Bronze he rifles through Buffy's messenger bag and pulls out several items, which item did he NOT take out of the bag?

Answer: a wooden cross

First he pulls out a yo-yo (why on Earth Buffy is toting around a yo-yo is beyond me,) then a tampon which he drops in disgust, and then a wooden stake which he takes to Buffy.
5. Spike's minion greets Buffy by saying "Slayer..." How does Buffy respond before engaging him in combat?

Answer: "Slayee..."

You gotta love the quips she uses. Unique speech patterns and cultural references are a huge part of the appeal of this show. Willow comments on this in both "Welcome to the Hellmouth" in season 1 and in "Weight of the World" in season 5 with the line "You talk funny." Willow also sees the quippy one liners as quintessential slayer tools in season 3 "Anne," and when she tries to reprogram the Buffybot in season 6 but ends up with "word salad."
6. For Parent Teacher Night Buffy provides lemonade as a refreshment, but what is wrong with her lemonade?

Answer: She forgets sugar so it's too sour/tart

She did all the work for Parent Teacher Night (including slicing up a cucumber with a machete) but gives Sheila half the credit even though she showed up late and hung over to work on the banners.
7. Which of the following does Spike NOT call Angel during their discussion in the high school hallway?

Answer: Nancy-boy

Spike greets Angel as Angelus with the accent on the first syllable, a different pronunciation than later in the series where the accent is moved to the second syllable and says "You were my sire, man. You were my Yoda." Spike refers to Angel's hair product as "nancy-boy hair gel..." while observing him from a rooftop in season 1: episode 3 of the series "Angel".
8. What heavy item does Willow use to knock out the vampire attacking Cordelia, before hiding in the janitor's closet?

Answer: A bronze bust

I find myself wondering how one would knock out a vampire since... you know, they're already dead? Also, how does Willow lift such a heavy object in the first place?

Joyce uses the axe to knock down Spike as he prepares to kill Buffy with a support beam from the wall. The trophies were in the display case next to the janitor's closet.
9. By the end of the show Spike has racked up a kill count of __ victims.

Answer: 4

James Marsters comments on his pathetic kill count in an interview. For being The Big Bad you'd think they'd show him knocking off more people.
10. What else is unique about Spike's kill count?

Answer: All of these answers are true.

His first victims are the two guys in the alley walking with Sheila, but he is not shown biting them, he may not have fed from them at all. Next is the bespectacled teacher he decides is too old to drink from and only kills him by breaking his neck. The last victim is The Anointed One, whom he throws into a cage and hoists into the daylight.
