Their song selection was evidently engineered to appeal to the celebrity judges, Josh Groban and Olivia Newton-John, granting them an unfair advantage in the competition. Aural Intensity placed second at that year's Regionals, losing to Carmel's Vocal Adrenaline.

Finn hears the song playing on the radio of his mother's old fling as he sprays the school's grass green, and decides the New Directions should perform it. As they perform, Mr. Schuester, who had decided to quit teaching to become an accountant, sees, and decides he cannot leave his passion for teaching.
