Sister Peter Marie Reimondo is the prison psychiatrist in Oz. She became a nun later in life, after the death of her husband. Despite being small, female and a nun, she manages to command respect from even the most hardened of criminals.

Answer: Pencils

When Governor Devlin announces that he is banning conjugal visits, all the married prisoners immediately sign up for one last visit. As Peter Marie is in charge of arranging the visits, her office is swamped with applicants. She passes out pencils and clipboards and warns the prisoners that if any pencils go missing, or are used as weapons, everybody's visits will be cancelled.

Answer: Jefferson Keane

Governor Devlin reinstates the death penalty and decides that Jefferson will be the first to die. Peter Marie believes Jefferson has been chosen because he is young and black and that Devlin believes the public will see Jefferson as a threat. She joins the protesters outside the prison and, when Warden Glynn tells her to choose between her protest and her job, she chooses to stand by her principles.

She later returns to work, after agreeing not to join in any more public protests.

Answer: Avenue

Giles gives Peter Marie four words: sick, broom, amore and street. Avenue is one of the words Peter Marie guesses while trying to make sense of his message. Eventually she realises that Giles is telling her about her husband's murder, which occurred on the corners of Sycamore and Broome street. Giles not only witnessed the murder, but later actually killed the murderer during an unrelated incident inside Oz.

Answer: Toothpaste and toothbrushes

Peter Marie knows that Giles is obsessive about his oral hygiene. He ends up in solitary confinement after killing a man in an altercation involving stolen toothpaste. In order to thank Giles for his help in solving the mystery of her husband's murder, Peter Marie brings him a large box of toothpaste, toothbrushes and mouthwash, a gift with which Giles is delighted.

Answer: Chris Keller

Chris Keller is known for being very seductive, managing to lure in both men and women with ease. When his relationship with Beecher turns sour, Keller turns his skills on Peter Marie, knowing that she is close to Beecher, in the hopes that she will help them reunite. When Peter Marie realises that she has been used, she blocks Keller from her life and decides to leave the convent.

Answer: She sends Shirley to a mental institute.

Shirley is brought to death row in Oz because there is no death row in the nearby Parker Women's Prison. When Shirley becomes pregnant whilst on death row, she refuses to tell anyone who the father of her child is. She is examined by Peter Marie and tells her that the reason she killed her first daughter was because she believed the child was possessed by the devil.

Her life sentence commuted due to her pregnancy, Shirley is initially happy but when she discovers that Peter Marie is having her transferred to a mental institute, she is furious.

Answer: Cardinal Abgot

Father Mukada tells Peter Marie that the Cardinal is coming to visit. Peter Marie initially decides not to come to work on that day, feeling it is hypocritical to meet with him while she is doubting her calling. Father Mukada tells Peter Marie that she can't be absent; the Cardinal is coming specifically to see her after receiving a letter from Chris Keller.

Despite her worries, the Cardinal is supportive of Peter Marie. He tells her that he too has experienced doubt and advises her to follow her heart.

Answer: Paint his nails

Nat calls himself Natalie and considers himself to be female. After helping Nat get his execution date moved forward, in order to not prolong his suffering from AIDS, Peter Marie goes to visit Nat. He has dressed in his best suit and wig and Peter Marie tells him he looks like Susan Hayworth.

He is too nervous and shaky to paint his own nails, so Peter Marie agrees to help but only does one nail before Nat feels faint and needs to lay down. When Nat is later found to have died in his sleep, Peter Marie finishes painting his nails.

Answer: Cyril O'Reilly

Peter Marie is about to sign the papers which will officially mark her exit from the church when she is interrupted by Ryan O'Reilly, who asks her to help Cyril. Whilst talking to Cyril, she asks him if he believes in God and he innocently replies. "We don't choose God, God chooses us".

This statement makes Peter Marie realise that she wants to remain a nun and she later repeats it to Chris Keller, while reassuring him that it's not too late for him to do good.

Answer: William Giles

William Giles is sent to death row after killing Louis Bevilaqua. The prisoners have a right to decide their own method of execution and Giles asks to be stoned to death. When Governor Devlin refuses his request, Peter Marie and an anti-death penalty group take up his cause, hoping it will help to reform the death penalty. Giles' sentence ends up being commuted to life imprisonment and the law is changed so that prisoners can only choose lethal injection or the electric chair.

Answer: Adam Guenzel

Beecher initially tries to help Adam Guenzel and to prevent him from becoming Schillinger's prag, but after Guenzel treats Beecher badly, Beecher hands him to the Aryans in return for the opportunity to see Keller. Beecher confesses this to Said, who is horrified. Guenzel is raped and badly beaten by the Aryans as a result. Peter Marie knows that at least one of the men knows about Guenzel, but none will talk - Schillinger won't implicate himself, Beecher is too ashamed to admit what he has done and Said wants Beecher to confess for himself.

In frustration, Peter Marie ends the session and refuses to see the three of them together again until someone owns up.

Answer: His trial

When Cyril is on trial for the murder of Li Chen, he keeps getting in trouble for asking questions and talking aloud. Peter Marie gives Cyril the puppet, which he names Jericho, and tells him to whisper any questions or comments to the puppet instead.

Initially Jericho helps Cyril, but soon Jericho develops into a sort of alter-ego. Peter Marie eventually takes Jericho away from Cyril, realising it was doing him more harm than good.

Answer: Suzanne Fitzgerald

Ryan is not allowed to attend the execution and Gloria is with him at this time. Warden Glynn oversees the execution. Suzanne Fitzgerald is Ryan's biological mother but she also takes Cyril under her wing, and she works hard alongside Peter Marie and Ryan to try and get Cyril's sentence overturned.

Despite their efforts, Cyril is executed and Suzanne and Peter Marie attempt to support each other.

Answer: She discovers he deliberately tried to get sentenced to death as a form of suicide.

Lemuel Idzik kills Kareem Said after being haunted for years by Kareem's throwaway comment about the universe ending. He then asks to be sent to Emerald City in the hope that someone would murder him. After trying unsuccessfully to convince Omar White to kill him, Lemuel kills Omar and is sent to death row.

When Peter Marie examines him prior to his execution, she discovers that he killed Omar for no other reason than to be sentenced to death. She reports his self-destructive behaviour and successfully has his sentence commuted to life, much to Lemuel's despair.
