Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Cardassia and Bajor embarked on a joint operation that would permit communication through the wormhole for the first time. However, an ancient Bajoran prophecy resulted in doubts about the project. Which episode from "DS9's" third season is being described?

Answer: Destiny

The prophecy stated that "three vipers" would return to their nest in the sky and as a result the temple gates would burn. This led to anxiety amongst the Bajorans about the destruction of the wormhole as they believed that the Cardassians were the three vipers. Whilst the prophecy did come true, it was not in the manner that was expected.
2. In which "DS9" episode does the USS Defiant travel back to Earth and a transporter accident leave Sisko, Dax and Bashir stuck in the 21st Century at a pivotal point in history?

Answer: Past Tense

In the early 21st Century, if you did not have any identification, money, job, or someone to vouch for you, you were placed into a sanctuary district. Sisko and Bashir were separated from Dax when they beamed in and were placed into Sanctuary District A just days before a riot was due to start.

When Gabriel Bell was accidentally killed, Sisko assumed his identity to ensure that history played out in the way it was intended.
3. A familiar face boarded Deep Space Nine, however all was not as it seemed. Once again, Sisko and Dukat had to work together against the Maquis to rescue Major Kira when one of the ships based at the station was stolen. Which episode was this?

Answer: Defiant

It appeared that Commander William Riker had boarded DS9, however we subsequently learned that it was actually his 'twin' brother. Thomas Riker had been created in a transporter accident in "TNG", and the computer could not distinguish between the two, enabling him to gain access to the Defiant with Major Kira.
4. Dr Bashir thought that Jadzia might be rejecting her symbiont and they travelled to the Trill homeworld to ask for help. It turned out that Dax had previously been joined to a murderer. In which "DS9" episode did Dax start to exhibit some strange behaviour?

Answer: Equilibrium

Whilst at dinner with the senior staff, Jadzia found a keyboard and absent-mindedly started to play a tune. Later in the episode, the computer identified the composer as Joran Belar. At one time, the Dax symbiont had been joined to Joran, however he had a violent personality and the symbiosis commission had put a memory block into the symbiont to suppress all memory of him.
5. "If they want their money back, give it to them." Which "DS9" episode did Quark have to resolve the mystery as to why Grand Nagus Zek had written new Rules of Acquisition and had developed a generous streak?

Answer: Prophet Motive

The Nagus had entered the wormhole with the Orb of Wisdom looking for the Prophets, however they found him to be aggressive and adversarial. They changed his personality to make him less of a threat and were prepared to adjust Quark as well. Quark was able to convince them that if they did so, more of his kind would come to try and find out what had happened so the Prophets returned Zek to normal.
6. The Bajoran First Minister died and was replaced by Kai Winn. She immediately ordered the return of some soil reclamators, a request that was refused. Major Kira was instructed to arrange their return... from her former resistance cell leader. Which "DS9" episode is being described?

Answer: Shakaar

Shakaar had waited for three years to be given the soil reclamators and had been promised that they could have use of them for a full year in the Dakhur Province. However, Kai Winn ordered that they should be given to the Rakantha Province instead. Her management of this issue led to Shakaar standing for election as the First Minister of Bajor.
7. An accidental death during a quiet time in the bar encouraged Quark to embellish the story to try and increase business. Which "DS9" episode dealt with the unexpected consequences that resulted?

Answer: The House of Quark

The Klingon's name was Kozak and he owed a significant amount of money to D'Ghor, who wanted to take over his house. He visited DS9 and ensured Quark confirmed Kozak's honourable death so this could happen, however he reckoned without Grilka marrying the man who had beaten her husband in battle.

Whilst the Klingon High Council considered what to do, Gowron ordered that Grilka's family should be known as the House of Quark!
8. Garak's shop exploded and Odo had to investigate what had happened. Believing Enabran Tain (his former mentor) to be in danger, Garak and Odo went looking for him. Far from being in danger, Tain was leading a joint Cardassian-Romulan force to the Gamma Quadrant to destroy the Founders. Told in two parts, does each part have the same name?

Answer: No

The first part of this story was told in the episode "Improbable Cause" with the second being told in "The Die Is Cast".

The attack on the Founders homeworld was unsuccessful, however Garak and Odo were permitted to escape by the Romulan Captain as he too was a changeling.
9. Whilst tidying up the station's computer system, an old Cardassian file was activated. This locked down the station as it did not know the occupation had ended and believed the Bajoran workforce was rioting. Which "DS9" episode is being described?

Answer: Civil Defense

The program activated the self-destruct system and transmitted a distress signal from Gul Dukat, which Dukat himself received. He tried to convince Major Kira to accept the placement of a Cardassian garrison on the station, however when he tried to leave, a message from his superior was played. This accused Dukat of cowardice by trying to flee and rescinded all his command codes!
10. Quark got more than he bargained for when he found a baby, which turned out to be a Jem'Hadar. In which "DS9" episode did Quark buy a shipment of salvage?

Answer: The Abandoned

When the baby was taken out of the stasis chamber initially, the crew had no idea which species it belonged to. However, as Jem'Hadar mature to adulthood within 3 days, it didn't take long for them to find out. Odo (being a Founder) was the only one to whom he would listen.
