'ST: DS9' - Seasons/ Episodes Trivia Questions

1. The Female Changeling takes on the form of Kira trapped inside an impenetrable, growing crystal in this episode.

From Quiz
Name That Episode #7

Answer: Heart Of Stone

Perhaps the giveaway on this one is the mention of the impenetrable, growing crystal. A very memorable episode, as Odo confesses his love for Kira for the very first time...or so he thought at first. As the crystal that has encased whom he thinks is DS9's Bajoran liaison continues to get bigger and bigger, a stressed Odo begins pouring out his emotions. But then, he begins to realize that 'Kira' is telling him things that do not quite add up, becoming increasingly suspicious until ultimately, with phaser in hand, Odo confronts the person and demands to know his or her true identity. The false 'Kira' trapped inside the crystal then suddenly transforms into the familiar liquid blob before finally taking on the form of the Female Changeling, the alien Founder revealing to the station's resident shape-shifter that the whole scenario of 'Kira dying' was a test to see if his loyalties were for his own people or for his new-found humanoid friends and colleagues.

2. Jake offers to babysit Kirayoshi for Chief O'Brien, but the baby cries shortly after being put into Jake's arms, which is in stark contrast to Kirayoshi not crying at all when put into Worf's arms later on in this episode.

From Quiz Name That Episode #6

Answer: Business As Usual

The silly little side story in this episode is Chief O'Brien's dilemma in getting his newborn son to stop crying whenever he puts him down. At the beginning of the episode, Jake enters O'Brien's quarters and offers to babysit while the station's chief engineer goes to work. As soon as O'Brien hands Yoshi off to Jake, the newborn begins crying uncontrollably, which prompts O'Brien to immediately take his son back into his own arms, carrying the baby to work with him instead. But at the end of the episode, when Worf enters O'Brien's quarters to remind Keiko's husband about reporting for a duty shift, O'Brien has the Klingon commander hold Yoshi while fetching a bottle in another room. Miraculously, and to O'Brien's surprise, Yoshi doesn't cry at all in this instance, the humorous irony being that Worf wasn't ever known for being much of a father figure, let alone an infant caregiver.

3. Chief O'Brien and Kira are each given a flower by a humanoid upon transporting down onto a planet, but the humanoid says nothing and instead greets them with a silent hand gesture.

From Quiz Name That Episode #5

Answer: Past Tense, Part 2

I found this to be one of the funniest moments of this two-part adventure back in time to 1960's San Francisco. In an attempt to locate Sisko, Dax and the rest of their comrades, O'Brien and Kira are constantly transporting from place to place, unable to pinpoint an exact location to where they can be contacted via the com. When they transport to one particular location on the street, they are met by a Human couple dressed in some rather groovy-looking attire, the woman handing both O'Brien and Kira a flower before she and her male companion flash a peace sign.

4. Quark and Rom are crawling through a series of Jefferies tubes, knocking down a panel that's sealing one of the crawlspace exits and accidentally arriving in the office of a very surprised Captain Sisko.

From Quiz Name That Episode #4

Answer: The Magnificent Ferengi

Towards the beginning of this hilarious sixth-season Ferengi adventure, Quark has just informed his brother about their mother being held prisoner by The Dominion. Rom had been working inside some unknown area of the Jefferies tubes onboard the station upon receiving the bad news, so as the two siblings talk, they begin a rather longish trek through the station's interior corridors. Except they end up taking a wrong turn, kicking out a wall panel that lands on the floor inside Captain Sisko's office, much to the captain's surprise (and I would presume disappointment and a bit of disgust as well, given the rude intrusion).

5. Vedek Bareil is given a risky experimental drug at his personal request, hoping it will enable him to continue negotiating a peace agreement between the Bajorans and the Cardassians.

From Quiz Name That Episode #3

Answer: Life Support

After sustaining serious injury due to a plasma leak on the ship ferrying him and the other Bajoran passengers to the station, Kira's then love interest is literally lying on his death bed in the infirmary. Dr. Bashir is able to resuscitate the Vedek, but offers that an experimental drug will prolong his life longer, despite Kira's initial objects. Bareil is determined to establish a peace treaty with the Cardassians. Although that treaty is eventually agreed upon, the drug ultimately takes its toll; he lives his final hours bed-ridden with a tearful Kira standing over him. Bareil is not given any such drugs in neither "Fascination" nor the first-season finale, and the Vedek doesn't make an appearance at all in "Shakaar".

6. Doctor Bashir is surprised to learn that in times of war, the law falls silent when visiting Romulus with Admiral Ross for a diplomatic conference. In which episode does Julian's talk interest both the chairman of the Tal'Shiar and Section 31?

From Quiz "Star Trek: Deep Space Nine" Season 7

Answer: Inter Arma Enim Silent Leges

The clues in the question on this one as "Inter Arma Enim Silent Leges" translates as "In times of war, the law falls silent". Starfleet promised to send Dr Bashir to Romulus to deliver a lecture about the Quickening. Chairman Koval of the Tal'Shiar attended, however Deputy Director Sloan of Section 31 was on Romulus as well. Was there an assassination plot afoot or was it an elaborate ploy?

7. In which "DS9" episode were Jake and Nog heading to Ferenginar in a runabout when the Jem'Hadar attacked them? Suddenly a Defiant-class starship came to their rescue and to their surprise, they found that the crew was made up of Red Squad cadets.

From Quiz "Star Trek: Deep Space Nine" Season 6

Answer: Valiant

The Valiant was originally commanded by Captain Ramirez, however he was critically injured in a battle with the Cardassians. Following the orders Ramirez received from Starfleet after his death, the new Captain, Tim Watters, collected information about the Dominion's new battle cruiser, however he believed he could go one step further... with disastrous consequences.

8. For what crime has Ty Kajada been tracking Rao Vantika?

From Quiz "The Passenger" ('DS9' Season 1)

Answer: murder

Rao Vantika was "a man of science who killed others to prolong his own life." Ty Kajada has been tracking him for twenty years.

9. What is the Grand Nagus' name?

From Quiz "The Nagus" ('DS9' Season 1)

Answer: Zek

The arrival of Grand Nagus Zek makes Quark nervous. What could he want? Quark is certain he knows.

10. According to Sisko, what is Starfleet's primary objective?

From Quiz "Move Along Home" ('DS9' season 1)

Answer: First Contact

Sisko is quite nervous because this is his first time experiencing First Contact.

11. From where does O'Brien recognizes Vash?

From Quiz "Q-Less" ('DS9' Season 1)

Answer: the Enterprise

O'Brien recognizes Vash from the Enterprise as a special friend of Captain Picard's.

12. When the episode opens, who is in Sisko's office complaining?

From Quiz "Captive Pursuit" ('Deep Space Nine' Season 1)

Answer: a Dabo girl

The Dabo girl is complaining about the "Ferengi print" in her contract which requires her to respond to Quark's sexual advances.

13. What is O'Brien repairing when the virus is triggered?

From Quiz "Babel" ('Deep Space Nine' Season 1)

Answer: a replicator

O'Brien is overwhelmed by all of mechanical malfunctions occurring on the space station.

14. At the beginning of the episode, Jadzia is in a holosuite. What is she doing?

From Quiz "A Man Alone" - 'Deep Space Nine' (Season 1)

Answer: working on a brain teaser

Julian Bashir enters the holosuite in order to flirt with Jadzia.

15. This episode opens with a small craft being fired upon by a larger ship. Who is in the small craft?

From Quiz 'DS9' (Season 1) "Past Prologue"

Answer: Tahna Los

Tahna Los' ship is breaking apart as he is transported onto Deep Space Nine.

16. On what starship did Sisko's wife Jennifer die?

From Quiz "Deep Space Nine" (Season 1) "The Emissary"

Answer: U.S.S. Saratoga

During the time that Picard was a member of the Borg collective, Benjamin Sisko and his family were stationed on the Saratoga. Though he was in the same room as his mother, Sisko's son Jake survived.

17. What item did Jake decide to buy at the auction to cheer up his father?

From Quiz "ST: DS9" - "In the Cards"

Answer: Willie Mays baseball card

Quark held an auction of items found in an abandoned freighter. Though originally Nog and Jake thought it was junk, Jake got excited about the baseball card and decided to buy it to cheer up Captain Sisko.

18. Why did Worf and Jadzia decide to get married immediately on the staion instead of waiting for the war to end and marry on Qo'nos?

From Quiz "ST: DS9" - "You Are Cordially Invited"

Answer: So Alexander would not miss his father's wedding.

After hearing that Alexander was being transferred to a new ship, Jadzia convinced Worf to move up the wedding, so Alexander would for sure be there. It turned out to be a good thing. If they had waited until the war ended, the wedding would have never happened, because Jadzia died at the end of season 6.

19. How did the Defiant go back in time?

From Quiz Are you ready for "Trials and Tribble-ations"?

Answer: Arne Darvin used the Orb of Time.

Barry Waddle, aka Arne Darvin, used the Orb of Time to get the Defiant to go back to the time of his arrest on Deep Space Station K-7. He wanted to prevent that from happening, so he attempted to kill Kirk.

20. At the beginning of the episode Dr. Bashir is finishing up some work before he leaves for his conference. Who is the first person to come through the clinic door?

From Quiz "Deep Space Nine": "Inquisition"

Answer: Odo

Odo first comes in to comment on Bashir working late. O'Brien comes in second to get his shoulder repaired from kayaking. As Bashir fixes him up he warns him again not to go back.

21. In the season premiere, "The Search, Part I," Odo (Rene Auberjonois), much to his surprise, finds the homeworld of his people. Which member of the DS9 crew is with him when he makes this discovery?

From Quiz "Star Trek: Deep Space Nine" -- Season Three

Answer: Major Kira Nerys (Nana Visitor)

After the DEFIANT gets clobbered by the Jem'Hadar, Odo throws Kira into a shuttlepod and heads for an oddly familiar rogue planet. Kira is at his side when he is welcomed "home" by fellow shapeshifters.

22. Which supporting character does NOT appear in the premiere episode, "Emissary"?

From Quiz "Star Trek: Deep Space Nine," Season One

Answer: Garak (Andrew J. Robinson)

All of the other characters appear, even though Rom's character was not given a name in this episode. Garak, on the other hand, doesn't show up until "Past Prologue."

23. Worf commanded a ship that was destroyed in the episode 'Penumbra'. What was the name of the ship?

From Quiz 'DS9' Final Story Arc Quiz

Answer: IKS Koraga

When Worf wasn't found among the survivors, Ezri Dax went looking for him, and found him still in an escape pod.

24. Jadzia Dax is onboard a Dominion ship when she is injured by an exploding console due to enemy weapons fire, which results in her having to be bed-ridden inside a cave while her comrades battle Jem Ha'dar soldiers.

From Quiz Name That Episode #7

Answer: Rocks And Shoals

In this second episode of the six-episode arc that opened up the show's sixth season, Dax, along with Captain Sisko, Garak, Nog, Dr. Bashir, Chief O'Brien and the rest of her Starfleet comrades, are still commandeering the Dominion ship acquired in the season's premiere. But when the ship sustains heavy damage due to enemy weapons fire, the console at the station where Dax is posted explodes, causing her serious injury. Meanwhile, the commandeered Dominion ship has crash-landed in the ocean of a nearby (and very convenient) M-class planet, as shown by Sisko and his crewmates physically pulling salvage from the wreckage out of the water. We later see everyone having taken refuge inside a large cave, with Dax laying down and too injured to move and having to be tended to by DS9's chief medical officer while Sisko negotiates with the Jem Ha'dar and their 'dying' Vorta leader, who have also taken up residence on the planet.

25. Garak is scanning himself with a hand-held device that isn't a Starfleet tricorder, and instead of that device registering him as a Cardassian, it registers him as a Bajoran man despite his Cardassian appearance.

From Quiz Name That Episode #6

Answer: Things Past

Following the confrontation with the Cardassian guards in the past-timeline Terok Nor, Garak reveals to Captain Sisko and Odo that he'd secretly pilfered a scanning device from one of the guards that attacked him. He scans Sisko and Odo with the device, then himself, each time explaining that the device registers the one being scanned as a Bajoran, despite their Human, Changeling and Cardassian appearances, respectively. This provides further evidence that the Cardassian guards and the other Bajoprans do in fact recognize Garak and his comrades as fellow Bajorans. At that point of the episode, however, the mystery as to why the trio, plus Jadzia Dax, has even gone back in time to appear on the station in the first place remains unsolved.

26. Joseph Sisko receives an alien patron to his restaurant after he has already closed up for the day, but that patron is actually there to visit Joseph's Starfleet son and is excited about doing so.

From Quiz Name That Episode #5

Answer: Image In The Sand

In the seventh-season premiere, Captain Sisko is back on Earth, visiting his Dad at the familiar New Orleans restaurant. While the two men are having a heart to heart conversation, a female stranger appears at the restaurant's front door. Joseph tells the woman that he's closed for the day, but the woman says that she's only come to see Ben. When the surprised captain asks if he knows her after she's let in, the woman simply replies that she's Dax. We then learn that Ezri is the new host for the Dax symbiont after Jadzia died in the previous season.

27. Jadzia Dax is down on a planet, using a hand-held alien device instead of her tricorder to scan for lifeforms, but the device she's holding vanishes when she walks too far a distance away.

From Quiz Name That Episode #4

Answer: Shadowplay

After tracking down the source of the omicron particles down on the alien planet, Dax and Odo soon find themselves assisting the inhabitants with finding the missing people who have mysteriously 'disappeared'. Dax's tricorder isn't working properly due to her proximity to the reactor device in the town plaza, so she borrows a hand-held scanner from one of the elders. Later, after she, Odo and the little girl have traversed the steep hillside and come into a clearing, her scanner suddenly vanishes from her hands, much in the same way that a portion of the little girl's arm vanishes when she tries to hand Odo a bunch of berries. It's then determined that all of the inhabitants, except for their flesh-and-blood creator, are actually holograms, and that there's an invisible boundary preventing the people from exiting into other areas of the planet's valley.
