The brothers were hunting two witch sisters. They used a hex bag and love spell on Dean to steal the Black Grimoire. Sam figured out pretty quickly what had happened to his brother, and he reminded his brother of Becky, who used a love spell on Sam back in "Season 7, Time for a Wedding."

Sam raced in just in time to save his hexed brother from being killed. But, Dean was still under the spell, so he jumped his brother to save Jamie. While the brothers fought, the girls got away with the Black Grimoire.

Answer: They had both seen Lucifer's true face

Rowena, who was killed by Lucifer in season 12, reappeared in this episode. She had protected herself with a resurrection spell, but it took a long time for her to heal after Lucifer crushed her skull and burned her. She wanted a spell in the Grimoire so she could be stronger to protect herself.

She admitted to Sam that before he killed her, "Lucifer showed me his face. His true face. I'm scared, Sam. All the time." Sam then told her, "I've seen it too. What he really looks like behind whatever vessel.

It still keeps me up at night." Later in the episode, Sam let her take the page from the Grimoire. And, he told his brother that he also felt "helpless."

Answer: Lucifer and Castiel

After Castiel and Lucifer escaped from Asmodeus' prison in "Various & Sundry Villains," Lucifer tried to get Castiel to give him his grace willingly, and when that did not work, he attacked Castiel. Castiel stabbed Lucifer with an angel blade, saying, "This is me, learning from my mistakes."

Answer: An angel

Sister Jo turned out to be the angel Anael. Anael was charging people to heal them, and considered herself to be a businesswoman. When Lucifer attacked her, she made a deal to keep giving him her grace, and by the end of the episode, she stood beside him as the other angels bowed before him. Anael was played by Danneel Ackles, who was married to a Jensen Ackles, who played Dean Winchester.

Answer: They knocked him out and stuck him in the car trunk

Castiel knocked him out. Dean then dumped him in the trunk. Dean then said he wanted to take Ketch back home, "find out what he knows and put a bullet in him, burn his bones and flush his ashes." Castiel immediately endorsed that plan. But, Sam got a lead on Anael, so the three followed that lead, with Ketch still in the trunk. Later, Ketch escaped from the trunk, and saved the three from being killed by Lucifer and Anael.

Answer: Gabriel

When Ketch told Asmodeus that he did not think he could beat Lucifer, Asmodeus revealed that he possessed the archangel blade, which was the only "known weapon capable of destroying an archangel." When Ketch reminded Asmodeus that the weapon only works if "wielded by an archangel," Asmodeus showed him his prisoner, the beaten and bloodied archangel Gabriel.

The scene opened in the Winchesters' kitchen, with Sam drinking coffee and Dean about to dig into a heaping plate of bacon. Sam asked him, "Don't you think you should take it easy on the nitrates?" This was Dean's response. Dean had a long history of enjoying bacon, usually on bacon cheeseburgers, and it was revealed in season 12 that Mary also loved bacon. If nothing else, Dean's eating habits were always a bit of comic relief during the show.

Mary and Jack ran into alternate world Bobby, who knew alternate world Mary, and had met her sons at the end of season 12. Bobby helped the two elude Michael, but later, Jack's powers alerted the angels to Bobby's camp and the angels attacked.

Mary and alternate world Bobby talked, and he told her the Mary he had known was brave, but sad and "full of regret." She did not make the demon deal, so she lost John, "the love of her life," and "never moved on." Mary realized that meant her sons were never born in the alternate world, so the alternate world got the Apocalypse that the brothers had stopped in her world. Bobby told her she had made the right choice by making the deal.

Answer: Zachariah

Zachariah was the angel working for Michael in the alternate world. Michel sent him to kill Mary and retrieve Jack. He attacked Mary and Jack came to her defense. Jack killed Zachariah and stopped missiles from hitting the camp. He also told Mary and Bobby that the only way to stop the war was for him to kill Michael.

In the real world, Zachariah was also the angel working for Michael during seasons 4 and 5. In that world, Dean was the one who killed Zachariah.

The brothers were upset that Castiel had left Donatello brain dead. Castiel explained he would do whatever he had to, and he had gotten the spell from Donatello's Head. He said if they found all four ingredients, they could bring Mary and Jack home, and together they could "beat Lucifer and Michael." He told the brothers, " This is the only way we win, and this is the only way we survive."

The brothers' efforts to obtain the blood of a most holy man led them to an assortment of crooks and thieves, all attempting to acquire the stolen skull. They ended up partnering with the priest attempting to retrieve the artifact and return it to its rightful place.

"Accentuate the Positive" was playing as Dean started chatting with another customer - a customer reading a book on Demons. But, he was called away from her by his brother, who had dug up a lead on the skull thief.

Answer: The most holy man gave it to them.

The brothers had assumed a most holy man referred to a saint, so they were attempting to get the blood of a saint during the episode. Then, after helping the priest get the skull back, he told them that the pope had given him the title of "A most holy man" for his good works.

The brothers then realized it was the priest's blood they needed, and they returned to the bunker with one ingredient for the spell to open a rift to the alternate world.
