In the previous episode, "The Big Empty," Dean confessed to his brother that, "Right now, I don't believe in a . . . thing," and told him that he needed Sam to "keep the faith for both of us." Sam was clearly worried about his brother in "Advanced Thanatology," and tried to make him feel better, suggesting they go on a hunt alone together and making sure he got things he liked.

Answer: Tried to convince the stripper to go to nursing school

As part of Sam's mission to cheer up his brother, he suggested they go to a strip club called the "Clam Diver." Dean was incredulous - and even more so when Sam said he had read great reviews for the place. This was the point where Dean demanded to know what he was doing, with the beer and chili fries, etc.

He reminded Sam that Sam hated strip clubs. Sam denied that, and Dean reminded him, "Dude, the last lap dance you had was at Christmas, it was a gift paid for by me, and you spent the entire song trying to convince the girl that she should go to nursing school."

Answer: He killed himself with an injection

Dean killed himself with an injection, and left Sam with the antidote to bring him back within three minutes. The first time Dean used this method was when Dr. Roberts did it for him in "Appointment in Samara" in season 6. In that case, he met with Death. This time, he met with the new Death.

Answer: Billie

Dean temporarily died to speak to the ghosts in the Meadows house, so they could lead him to the bodies. But, when it came time for Sam to bring him back, Dean did not wake up. Then, Billie appeared to Dean. Billie was the reaper who had told the Winchesters that the next time they died, she would put them in the Empty, and they would stay dead.

She was also the reaper who was killed by Castiel in "First Blood." She explained to Dean that when Death is killed (Dean killed Death in "Brother's Keeper" in season 10), "the next reaper to die takes his place." So, she was the new Death.

She also told him that he and Sam were "important" and they "have work to do." Then, she sent him back.

Answer: "It's Never Too Late" by Steppenwolf

Dean and Sam had a talk near the car, with Dean telling Sam what happened while he was in the veil, and then explaining how he felt. He said, "In my whole life, I always believed that what we do was important, no matter what the cost, no matter who we lost, whether it was Dad or Bobby or - and I would take the hit.

But I kept on fighting. Because I believed that we were making the world a better place. And now mom and Cas and I don't know . . . I just need a win." "It's Never too Late" then played as the brothers drove off and the bodies were removed from the Meadows house.

The refrain of "It's never too late to start all over again" was integral to the scene, as Billie looked through her books, and then Dean got a call - and drove to meet Cas! He got his win.

Answer: Team Free Will 2.0

Sam and Dean brought Cas back to the bunker, where he was reunited with Jack. Jack told them he had found a case in Dodge City, Kansas. Dean decided they should check out the case, saying, "Two salty hunters, one half-Angel kid, and a dude that just came back from the dead again: Team Free Will 2.0.

Here we go!" Dean had originally dubbed him, his brother and Cas as a Team Free Will back in "The Song Remains the Same" in season 5, with his classic line: "Team Free Will: One ex-blood junkie, one dropout with six bucks to his name, and Mr. Comatose over there."

Answer: The one with the guns and tuberculosis.

There were a lot of funny lines in the episode. When Cas warned Jack against waking up Dean, he told him Dean was an "angry sleeper, like a bear." Then, when Dean reminded Cas about the movie he made him watch, Cas said it was "the one with the guns and tuberculosis." Next, he attempted an imitation of Val Kilmer, and said, "I'm your huckleberry." This was followed by Dean and Cas exiting the car and walking to the crime scene, accompanied by "Space Cowboy" by the Steve Miller Band.

Answer: "They Call Me Zombie" by Messer Chups

The team thought they may be searching for a zombie, so "They Call Me Zombie" was a great song to hear during the episode. Later, Sam found "leftovers" in the graveyard, and they realized they were hunting a ghoul, not a zombie. The brothers first encountered ghouls in "Jump the Shark" in season 4.

Answer: False

Clay Allison was in one of the cowboy photos on the wall of the guys' hotel room, but it was actually a cowboy from a different photo, Dave Mather, that the ghoul had taken as his form. Dean explained that Mather was a "cowboy, outlaw, one of the Dodge City gang . . . One of the greatest gun fighters ever . . .

The mysterious Dave Mather." Mather died in 1886, and his form was now being used by the ghoul in 2017.

Answer: Arthur Ketch

Arthur Ketch was killing witches, in his efforts to find Rowena. Rowena had given him a charm that allowed him to be resurrected after Mary killed him in season 12. But, the charm only worked once, so he was searching for Rowena to do it again. Rowena, though, was killed by Lucifer in season 12, and was not to be found.

Answer: Lucifer

After capturing Lucifer, reading his mind to learn about the "paradise world," and torturing him in the alternate reality, Michael stole his grace so that alternate reality prophet Kevin Tran could use it to create a rift to the other world. Michael planned to go to the other world and rule it.

However, when the rift opened up, Lucifer escaped his captors and jumped through, and the rift closed behind him. This put Lucifer, without his Angel grace, back in the world with the Winchesters, and left Mary a prisoner of Michael in the alternate reality.

Answer: Lucifer

Castiel went to an Angel friend to ask for help finding Jack. But, the angel betrayed him and she and two other angels attacked him. Then, just as a blade was to Castiel's neck, Lucifer appeared and bluffed the angels into backing down and leaving. Lucifer then explained to Castiel about alternate universe Michael and the danger he posed to their world, starting with a fun exchange, with Castiel asking what Lucifer was doing back in their world, Lucifer asking what Castiel was doing alive, Castiel saying it was complicated, and Lucifer saying same here.

Answer: Evil Colonel Sanders

Asmodeus was determined to get Jack back. He thought the Winchesters still had him, so tortured the motel clerk where they stayed in "Tombstone" to get information. He then found out that the Winchesters were searching for Jack, as well. Ketch overheard the brothers talking about Asmodeus, and when he escaped, he went straight to the Prince of Hell to propose they work together.

Answer: He recognized his moves from when they fought together and against each other

After the Winchesters left Ketch tied up in the bunker, the brothers went to find Cas. Ketch escaped, borrowed a motorcycle, and helped the Winchesters defeat the demons lying in wait for them at the bar where Castiel had been. Right after the fight, though, Dean pulled a gun on Ketch.

He told him he recognized his moves. Ketch told them that he came back from the dead with the charm from Rowena, and now worked as a soldier of fortune. Ketch then escaped before Dean could kill him.

Answer: Castiel and Lucifer

Asmodeus captured Castiel and Lucifer. Lucifer had lost most of his grace, so was powerless against the Prince of Hell. Asmodeus told his new employee Ketch, "I'm a collector. I like to be prepared. Lucifer could be useful. Castiel is a card to play if the Winchesters get out of line. And if there's any truth to the story that a new version of Michael is coming, I will definitely need their Nephilim."
