"The Amazing Race 16" [1] Trivia Quiz

Eleven teams commenced the sixteenth "Amazing Race" at the starting line in Vista Hermosa Natural Park and were told to make their way to LAX International Airport using public transportation. Upon arriving at the airport, teams needed to receive tickets on one of only two flights taking them to Chile that afternoon. To top that off, only three teams would be able to catch the first flight departing only an hour earlier in their next destination. That goes out the window, though; the first plane is delayed and they connect to everyone else's plane in Miami.

Answer: Santiago

Arriving in Santiago, the capital city of Chile, teams made their way to the bus stop to reach Chile's second largest city, Valparaíso, where they could find their first clue box of the race. Arriving at Terminal San Borja in Santiago, many teams boarded the first bus together, but some were forced to take later buses departing only minutes later. One team, Jet and Cord, had the wrong currency altogether and needed to exchange it elsewhere. Everyone arrived in Valparaíso not long after.

Answer: Cord

Upon arriving in Valparaíso, teams needed to take a taxi to their first clue box waiting at Ascensor Villaseca. Here, teams located the Road Block task, the first of the race, and they needed to choose the member who had "the balance of a cat and the courage of a lion". For this task, the chosen member needed to harness themselves in and cross a 360ft. tightrope suspended 120ft up (essentially the length of a football field). Caite, Jordan, Joe, Dan, Allie, Brandy, Shawne, Adrian, Louie, Shannon, and Cord completed this first Road Block.

Answer: Hard hats

After the Road Block task, teams needed to take a funicular down to their next clue at the Ascensor Artilleria and then locate the Paseo Templeman. Here, teams needed to carry four cans of the same colour of paint, a pair of paintbrushes, and a ladder up one of the nearby streets to a series of houses.

At the top, they needed to paint a specific section of the proper house with the correct colour of paint to receive their next clue.

Answer: Dana and Adrian

After the painting task, teams were told to make their way on foot to the first Pit Stop of the race in Valparaíso at the Palacio Baburizza. Jordan and Jeff were able to maintain their lead and arrive in first to claim a victory and win a trip for two to Vancouver, British Columbia.

Although Brent and Caite and Dan and Jordan arrived in second and fourth place respectively, they both took different penalties, the former for not taking the funicular and the latter for forgetting a paintbrush. It didn't matter in the end- Dana and Adrian didn't arrive at the Pit Stop after Adrian was unable to finish the Road Block task.

After two failed attempts, Phil eliminated them at the Road Block site.

Answer: By bus

In the beginning of Leg 2, teams departed from Palacio Baburizza in Valparaíso and were told to make their way to the bus station to hitch a ride to Santiago. Because teams departed in the middle of the night, all ten remaining teams took the same trip to Chile's capital city (on separate buses). Once there, teams needed to board another bus taking them almost six hundred miles to the city of Puerto Varas in Southern Chile.

More separate buses brought teams the fourteen hours to their destination (with lots of connections en route to secure earlier arrivals).

Once teams arrive in Puerto Varas, mostly at different times, they hopped into stickshift cars and drove themselves to the town of Petrohué to locate Vicente Pérez Rosales National Park. Here, after hiking up a trail and making their way by boat to the next clue box at the Mirador on Isla Margarita, teams found their next task, the first Detour of the race.

Some teams chose the first option, 'Llama Adoration' in which they needed to dress a llama in traditional garb for a local festival. Jet and Cord, Carol and Brandy, Joe and Heidi, Louie and Michael, Dan and Jordan, and Jody and Shannon tackled this one.

Answer: Dress up as birds

In the 'Condor Consternation' task, teams needed to put on a large bird costume and jump off a high dock to reach a buoy containing their next clue. Brent and Caite, Jordan and Jeff, Steve and Allie, and Monique and Shawne decided to take flight for their next clue by feathering up and diving in.

After the Detour, teams were told to return to their cars to head to Onces y Cabañas Bellavista, a farm in the mountains of Chile.

Arriving at the Bellavista Farm in Puerto Varas, teams opened a clue containing a Road Block task. For this one, team members needed to collect ingredients from a nearby pantry and farm area to make a traditional dish known as 'kuchen'. These ingredients included butter, sugar, a whole bag of flour, thirteen eggs from a nearby hen house, and a cup of milk taken straight from a cow. Once teams handed in all of the necessary ingredients they would receive a sample and their next clue. Cord, Heidi, Carol, Brent, Jeff, Monique, Steve, Jordan, Jody, and Michael completed this task.

Answer: Jody and Shannon

In the end of Leg 2, teams finished the Road Block and drove themselves to the second Pit Stop of the race at Gruta de la Virgen, a park in the city of Puerta Varas. Jet and Cord, whose plan to transfer buses en route to the city early in the leg was the only one to pay off, ended up arriving in first winning themselves two sailboats (which, I guess they could pretend to use at home in Oklahoma).

Although Louie and Michael got lost heading to the Road Block, they were able to overcome ninth place Jody and Shannon at the very end. Jody and Shannon became the second team eliminated from the race.
