Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In the first leg of the race in Valparaíso, Chile, teams traveled on which of these modes of transportation?

Answer: Funicular

Heading out from Los Angeles in the first leg of the race, eleven teams ended up traveling to Santiago, Chile and then onward to the city of Valparaíso, a vibrant locale filled with colourful houses and hills. During this leg, teams performed a highwire walk over the city streets, painted local houses, and rode many funiculars through Valparaíso.

In the end of the leg, Dana and Adrian were unable to overcome the vertigo-inducing Road Block-- they were eliminated before reaching the Pit Stop. In the following leg of the race, teams remained in Chile, traveling to Puerto Varas in the Los Lagos region.
2. In Leg 3, teams experienced gaucho culture outside the city of San Carlos de Bariloche in what South American nation?

Answer: Argentina

In Leg 3, teams bussed from the lake region of Chile through the mountainous Andes of Argentina to the pampas outside San Carlos de Bariloche, a location first seen in "The Amazing Race 5". Here, the cowboys (Jet and Cord) excelled with gaucho/cowboy-themed tasks as the teams lassoed non-moving objects, played polo, and searched the fields on treasure hunts. Jet and Cord won their second consecutive leg while Monique and Shawne were sent home.
3. In Leg 4, teams headed over to the city of Hamburg, Germany for a night of challenges. Their Pit Stop was found down the street from this monument to what British group?

Answer: The Beatles

Heading far across the Atlantic to Germany for a nighttime leg of the race in Hamburg, teams needed to intersect to perform a tandem crane bungee jump, eat too much sauerkraut, kick some soccer goals, and inevitably race to Beatles-Platz, a monument to none other than the Beatles in the St. Pauli quarter. Once there they had to proceed on foot to the Indra Musikclub, a location where the Beatles performed in their early days, to check in.

This was the first non-elimination leg of the race; Jordan and Jeff checked in last and had to complete a Speed Bump in the next leg.
4. In Leg 5, teams took a bus to a mystery destination in the north of France. Upon their arrival they had to find a bakery in Sainte-Menehould. Where did they find their next clue?

Answer: Baked into a baguette

While the bulk of Leg 5 took teams into the trenches of Northern France, the tasks began with a bakery visit in Sainte-Menehould. Once teams broke open their fresh baguettes they would find a clue sending them to La main de Massiges. Here, one team faced their Speed Bump; everyone completed a Detour, and one team, Joe and Heidi, were tripped up by the U-Turn.

They were subsequently eliminated without checking into the Pit Stop outside the church in the small French village of Wargemoulin-Hurlus.
5. Heading through France's beautiful champagne fields in Leg 6, teams visited Notre-Dame de Reims to find a woman playing what unorthodox instrument?

Answer: Singing saw

Continuing through France in Leg 6, the final seven teams investigated different facets of the Northern French champagne industry by diving into an old wine cellar, searching vineyards for marked bunches of grapes, and creating champagne towers. The long day ended with a Pit Stop at which Jordan and Jeff were eliminated.

The first task of the day took teams to the city of Reims where, in front of the Notre Dame de Reims Cathedral, they had to find a woman playing a singing saw near a statue of Joan of Arc.
6. In Leg 7, teams had to dive into the ocean off St. Pierre Island in Praslin, part of what French-speaking Indian Ocean island nation?

Answer: Seychelles

In Leg 7, teams went from Northern France to the Seychelles, a tropical paradise near the Equator. Here, teams worked with either oxen or centenarian tortoises (and they like their bananas apparently) before diving into the crystal-clear ocean waters and checking in at the Paradise Sun Hotel.

The leg was notable for dropping front-runners Jet and Cord into last place, though it was a non-elimination leg and they were able to keep racing. It was also the first and only victory for father-daughter team Steve and Allie.
7. In Penang, Malaysia in Leg 8, the final six visited a temple in Bayan Lepas known for the worship of what creatures?

Answer: Snakes

Snake Temple was the home of the first clue in Leg 8 and teams needed to encounter vipers and the like to retrieve it. This leg, held in the stifling heat of George Town, Malaysia, also had teams setting up giant joss sticks or balancing flags during the Detour, chopping through coconuts in the Road Block, or, in Jet and Cord's case, delivering tea for the Speed Bump.

Despite the previous leg's placements, Jet and Cord came in first in this leg and Steve and Allie, who won the previous leg, were eliminated upon arriving at the Pit Stop inside Pinang Peranakan Mansion.
8. Starting Leg 9, teams received a clue from "Amazing Race Asia" host Allan Wu at the Victoria Theatre and Concert Hall, a landmark in what city?

Answer: Singapore

The Singapore leg of the race contained a wide variety of tasks but only four of the five teams completed the majority; Dan and Jordan completed the only Fast Forward of the race, taking them to the top of the Singapore Flyer to traverse the distance between two ferris wheel pods. Meanwhile, Carol and Brandy were faced with the U-Turn, ultimately putting them into last place and getting eliminated at the Marina Barrage Pit Stop.

This left only four teams in the race.
9. Two legs of the race were held in what Chinese city which contains 'The Venice of China', a region known as Zhujiajiao?

Answer: Shanghai

In Legs 10 and 11, the final four teams ran through Shanghai, China meeting the world's smallest man and the world's tallest man on the way. This included a noodle-making task on the canals of Zhujiajiao, the race's first double Road Block (in which two Road Blocks appeared in the same leg with one member completing the first and the other being forced to complete the second), and some travels through busy Chinese marketplaces.

After the elimination of Michael and Louie in Leg 11, only three teams remained to race for the million.
10. In what American city did the final three teams cross the finish line?

Answer: San Francisco

For the final leg of the race, the final three teams ascended up the side of Coit Tower, played a virtual reality game at LucasArts studios (at the Letterman Digital Arts Center), and transported a chest of paintings to the Great American Music Hall. In the end of the season, brothers Dan and Jordan ran across the finish line at Candlestick Park in first place to become the one million dollar winners.

They were followed by Jet and Cord in second and Brent and Caite in third. The cowboys, a fan favourite, would later return for "The Amazing Race 18".
