Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. During the Pit Stop preceding Leg 5, teams experienced which of these?

Answer: A bus trip to their next destination

After teams checked in at the Pit Stop in the Indra Musikclub in Hamburg, Germany, everyone boarded a bus driving to their next destination which was left as a mystery. The following day, teams embarked on their fifth leg in the order they arrived from a chateau in Les Monthairons, France. From here, teams were told to hop into their cars and travel to the town of Ste. Menehould where they would need to purchase a baguette from the Boulangerie Defontaine to receive their next clue.
2. Following a last place finish in the previous leg, which team was forced to complete a Speed Bump task in Leg 5?

Answer: Jordan and Jeff

After receiving their baguettes, team broke them open to find a clue baked inside sending them to La Main de Massiges, a trench system used in World War I. Upon their arrival, most teams found their Detour task, but Jordan and Jeff, having arrived at the previous (non-elimination) Pit Stop in last place, ended up having to complete their Speed Bump task during which they had to reinforce trench walls using large branches.

After finishing this to their attendant's satisfaction, they were able to continue with the race.
3. All eight teams participated in which Detour option in France in Leg 5?

Answer: 'Under Fire'

For the detour task, teams needed to dress up as American soldiers and choose either 'In the Trenches' or 'Under Fire'. In the first task, teams had to head to the nearby trench system and locate a morse code station at which they would need to use a manual and extreme patience and concentration to decode a message send via the wire. Once teams deciphered 'We will prevail. Vive la France' they would receive their next clue. Regardless, all teams chose 'Under Fire' in which they had to crawl under one hundred feet of barbed wire, receive a message saying 'The war is over. Vive la liberté', and return the way they came. Both tasks required that the message be attached to a carrier pigeon and sent to a headquarters.
4. Which team used the Blind U-Turn in France in Leg 5?

Answer: Louie and Michael

After the Detour, teams ran down the road to their next clue box and found the first U-Turn of the race...and it was the infamous Blind U-Turn. For this race mechanic, one team could force another team behind them to turn around and complete the other Detour option. Because it was 'Blind', they would not need to reveal who used the item. Louie and Michael, the first to arrive at the U-Turn, decided to use it to make Joe and Heidi, only moments behind them, finish the 'In the Trenches' task. Teams then needed to go to the nearby Church of Massiges.
5. Which team was eliminated at the end of Leg 5 in France?

Answer: Joe and Heidi

Arriving at the Church in Massiges, teams donned old-time biking outfits and, a la Tour de France, took a four mile bike ride to the fifth Pit Stop of the race, Eglise Saint-Étienne de Wargemoulin in Wargemoulin-Hurlus, France. The first team to arrive, for a second consecutive win, was Louie and Michael who ended up receiving two 55-inch LCD flatscreen TVs as a reward.

Although Jordan and Jeff faced a Speed Bump task, it was Joe and Heidi, unable to overcome the U-Turn, who were eliminated from the race.
6. In Leg 6, teams remained in France.

Answer: True

To begin Leg 6, teams departed from their Pit Stop in a tiny, French town in the northeast of the country and were told to hop into their cars to drive to the city of Reims, thirty-seven miles away. Once at the Notre-Dame de Reims, a cathedral in the city, teams found their next clue waiting at the base of a statue of Joan of Arc.

This clue would be given to them by a woman playing a musical saw, but it wouldn't be any normal clue; they'd simply receive a cork.
7. In the Road Block task in Leg 6, team members were required to rappel into which of these?

Answer: Winery cellar

Following their only bit of information, a name on the back of a cork, teams drove themselves to the city of Épernay to find Leclerc Briant, a local winery. Upon arriving, teams found the Road block for this leg of the race asking 'Who's ready to cave in?' For this task, one member of each team needed to rappel into the winery cellar about one hundred feet down.

Here, that team member needed to find one of the marked bottles in the racks containing thousands of similar champagne bottles and return to the top with it.

There, they would use a saber to open the bottle and receive their clue. Jordan, Louie, Steve, Brandy, Cord, Brent, and Jeff completed this Road Block.
8. Which team completed the 'Tower' Detour task in Leg 6?

Answer: Dan and Jordan

After the Road Block task, teams were told to make their way to the Chateau de la Marquetterie, a structure teams needed to discover was in the city of Pierry. Once they arrived, teams were able to choose their Detour option for this leg. In the 'Tower' task, teams had to build a fifteen-level pyramid using six hundred eighty champagne glasses. If teams could construct this properly with a single glass on top and pour the champagne in the top to make it flow down without breaking any glasses, they would be able to receive their clue. Only Dan and Jordan did this task.
9. What did teams need to find in the 'Terra' Detour task in Leg 6?

Answer: Grapes

Teams not completing 'Tower' ended up finishing the 'Terra' Detour task in this leg of the race. For this task, teams needed to search a square kilometer of the winery grounds for one of only a few bunches of hanging grapes bearing the race flag. When they did this, they would need to return the grapes to their attendant to receive their next clue. Louie and Michael, Carol and Brandy, Steve and Allie, Jet and Cord, Brent and Caite, and Jeff and Jordan all completed this task.
10. Which team was eliminated from the race in Leg 6?

Answer: Jordan and Jeff

After the Detour task, teams were told to head to their sixth Pit Stop, L'ORCCA in the city of Epernay. Here, Louie and Michael pulled themselves into their third consecutive victory, this time finding themselves rewarded with a trip for two to Cancun, Mexico care of Travelocity.

In the end it was Jordan and Jeff, who had trailed at the back of the pack for too long, who found themselves to be the fifth eliminated team.
