Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In the 'Llama Adoration' task in Leg 2's Detour, what did teams need to do with a llama?

Answer: Dress it up

In Leg 2, teams made their way to the Mirador on Isla Margarita near Puerto Varas, Chile to find their first Detour task of the race. Here, teams chose either 'Llama Adoration' or 'Condor Consternation'. In the former task, teams needed to find a llama pen on the island and use a blanket and scarf to dress up their possibly unruly llama. Jet and Cord, Carol and Brandy, Joe and Heidi, Louie and Michael, Dan and Jordan, and Jody and Shannon completed this.

In the latter task, teams needed to dress up as bird and jump off a high dock to reach a buoy in the middle of the surrounding lake. Brent and Caite, Jordan and Jeff, Steve and Allie, and Monique and Shawne jumped.
2. How many teams were able to complete the 'Horse Sense' Detour task in Argentina in Leg 3?

Answer: Two

In Leg 3, teams completed a number of Gaucho-themed tasks in Argentina's mountain region. In 'Horse Sense', teams received compass directions and step numbers from a gunslinger and needed to use an old-time compass to locate bags of treasure semi-hidden in the ground. Once they found the correct bags (as per coordinates on the bag itself), teams needed to deliver them to a bandit at a train station to receive their clue. Only Jordan and Jeff and Monica and Shawne completed this task.

In 'Horse Power', everyone else played a quick game of polo on a wooden 'practice pony'.

After dressing up, teams had to hit a polo ball across a polo field in nine hits or less to get their clue. After the Detour, teams went to the Pit Stop at Estancia Fortin Chacabuco.
3. In Leg 4, teams either played soccer or ate sauerkraut for a Detour in which country?

Answer: Germany

In Leg 4, teams found a Detour at a statue of Kaiser Wilhelm in Hamburg, Germany. For this task, teams either chose 'Soccer' or 'Sauerkraut'. In 'Soccer', Steve and Allie, Jet and Cord, Dan and Jordan, Brent and Caite, and Jordan and Jeff needed to find a soccer stadium and kick balls from the penalty line to hit five different targets. Once these were hit, they could continue on.

In 'Sauerkraut', Louie and Michael, Joe and Heidi, and Carol and Brandy had to eat a large serving of sauerkraut before the polka players behind them finished their rendition of 'The Sauerkraut Polka' to get their clue.

After this task, teams headed to a local bar for a boot of beer.
4. In Leg 5, which team was Blind U-Turned in France and forced to complete the second Detour option?

Answer: Joe and Heidi

In France, teams completed a WWI-themed Detour task at La Main de Massiges. Here, they dressed up as American soldiers and either completed 'In the Trenches' or 'Under Fire'. All eight teams completed 'Under Fire' in which they needed to crawl under one hundred yards of barbed wire to receive a message, then crawl back and send that message by carrier pigeon.

After the Detour, Louie and Michael used the first U-Turn of the race, a Blind U-Turn, to anonymously send Joe and Heidi back to do the 'In the Trenches' option in which they needed to decode a morse code message and send another pigeon off.

This ultimately led to their elimination.
5. In Leg 6 in France, teams either chose to search a vineyard or stack which of these?

Answer: Champagne glasses

In Leg 6, teams found the Detour task in Pierry at the Chateau de la Marquetterie. At this luxurious winery, teams chose either 'Tower' or 'Terra'. In 'Tower', teams needed to head inside the winery and stack six hundred eighty champagne glasses to a height of fifteen glasses.

Then, they had to pour an entire large bottle of champagne down the pyramid without it breaking to receive their clue. Only Dan and Jordan completed this task. In 'Terra', teams searched through a square kilometer of vineyard for one of only a few marked bunches of grapes along the vines.

After the Detour, teams headed to the Pit Stop at L'ORCCA in Epernay.
6. In Leg 7, teams flew to the Seychelles. During the Detour, teams either dealt with tortoises or which other animals?

Answer: Oxen

On the island of La Digue in the Seychelles, teams found a Detour choice between 'Turtle Toddle' and 'Ox Trot'. In 'Turtle Toddle', teams needed to take a banana and lead a hundred year old tortoise down a marked race course. Then, they needed to take a banana stalk and carry it a mile and a half to a marked stall. Only Steve and Allie did this.

In 'Ox Trot', teams needed to toss a pile of coconuts into a wagon, then use an oxen to pull it to the same marked path. If teams dropped a coconut, they'd need to retrieve it. All of the remaining teams attempted this, and three missed a coconut.
7. Leg 8 involved a Detour choice between 'Buddhist Tradition' and 'Chinese Custom' in which country?

Answer: Malaysia

Heading from the Seychelles to the island city of Penang, Malaysia, teams found a Detour at the Snake Temple. In 'Buddhist Tradition', teams headed to a temple and carried twelve large incense sticks up 150 steps to a Buddhist temple where they needed to organize them in a display frame and light them to receive their clue.

In 'Chinese Custom', teams traveled to a local park and balanced thirty-two foot flagpoles on their foreheads. When they got to the end of a 120 foot course without dropping the pole they could receive their next clue. Only Jet and Cord completed the second task- everyone else completed 'Buddhist Tradition'.
8. In Leg 9, which team was U-Turned during the Detour task in Singapore?

Answer: Carol and Brandy

In Leg 9, teams found a Detour clue waiting with "Amazing Race Asia" host Allan Wu at the Victoria Theatre and Concert Hall. They discovered a choice between 'Pounding the Drums' and 'Pounding the Pavement'. In the former task, teams needed to learn a traditional drum beat from young kids and perform it to the satisfaction of their instructors on stage to receive a clue. Brent and Caite, Jet and Cord, and Carol and Brandy completed this. Michael and Louie completed the latter in which they needed to hit the streets and bring ice cream sandwich materials to a local market cart and sell twenty-five ice cream sandwiches to passers-by. Dan and Jordan completed the Fast Forward and did not complete a Detour.

After this task, teams headed to Istana Park in Singpore and Brent and Caite U-Turned their rivals, Carol and Brandy, so that they needed to go back and complete 'Pounding the Pavement'.
9. Which Detour task in Leg 11 (in Shanghai) involved food?

Answer: 'Pork Dumplings'

In Leg 11, teams found a Detour clue at Yuyuan Garden in Shanghai, China. Here, all four teams completed 'Pork Chops' in which they needed to find a stamp store and search the shelves for two stamps, one bearing the name of each member and the stamp of a pig on the bottom.

When they found both they could carry on to the Pit Stop at the Riverside Promenade. If teams weren't to complete this task they would've gone with 'Pork Dumplings' in which they had to travel through the market place to deliver ten servings of pork dumplings across the confusing market.
10. Did the final leg of the race in San Francisco contain a Detour task?

Answer: No

After forty-thousand miles, teams discovered that their final Detour task was in Shanghai in Leg 11. While teams completed a Road Block in San Francisco during the final leg of the race there was no Detour making this race end with only nine clues allowing for a choice between two tasks. In the end it was Dan and Jordan who overcame their tasks to win the million dollar prize.
