Teams arrived at the Pit Stop at the end of Leg 4 in front of Lijiang, China's Eternal Tower and were instructed to keep racing; Leg 5 began right then and there. To start this leg, teams were told to make their way to the train station to board a train taking them back to the city of Kunming.

As a result of this transportation, all nine remaining teams were on even ground beginning the fifth leg of the race including Kynt and Vyxsin, both of whom had a thirty minute penalty to contend with because of their rule infringement early in the preceding leg. Teams needed to make their way to the Dounan Flower Market in Kunming to find a clue box.

Answer: Solar water heating systems

Arriving at the flower market, teams found their Detour task for this leg of the race including the 'Honor the Past' and 'Embrace the Future' options. In 'Honor the Past', teams needed to go to a cultural center to watch a performance by locals dressed in traditional garb. Without taking notes, teams needed to place dolls matching the outfits in the order that each one appeared on stage. Once teams completely placed the fifteen dolls they collected their clues. Zev and Justin, Ron and Christina, Jen and Kisha, and Gary and Mallory finished this one.

In 'Embrace the Future', teams needed to go to an office building, carry solar water heating devices to the roof, and construct them to receive their next clue. Margie and Luke, Jet and Cord, Kynt and Vyxsin, Jaime and Cara, and Flight Time and Big Easy finished this one.

Answer: Kynt and Vyxsin

After the Detour, teams were given a photo of their next destination: Yunnan Province Cultural Center. When teams made it to this location they were faced with the clue box and a Double U-Turn. Here, Kynt and Vyxsin used their powers to U-Turn Jaime and Cara who in turn used the mechanic to U-Turn Flight Time and Big Easy. Both affected teams needed to go back and complete the 'Honor the Past' Detour option.

After the Detour, teams were told to take a taxi to the Stone Forest to find their next clue.

Answer: Dilophosaurus

Arriving at the Stone Forest, teams were faced with the Road Block task for this leg of the race in which one member needed to enter a clearing, accumulate pieces representing the bones of a Dilophosaurus, and build its skeleton to receive their next clue. Kisha, Christina, Margie, Kent, Jet, Jaime, Big Easy, and Justin all pieced this one together. Neither Gary nor Mallory ended up taking on this challenge (though Gary was initially supposed to complete it) as they instead opted to utilize their Express Pass.

They received their next clue immediately upon arriving.

Answer: Jaime and Cara

Jet and Cord ended up breezing through the Road Block and took a taxi to a first place victory in this leg, showing up on the mat at Green Lake Park. They won $5,000 each for their victory. Gary and Mallory, who used the Express Pass and departed from the Road Block before them, ended up placing second while Kynt and Vyxsin, who had their penalty, ended up hitting the mat in fifth.

In the end of the episode it was Jaime and Cara who, while they made up the time after their U-Turn, were unable to overcome the Road Block task and fell back to the bottom of the pack.

They became the third eliminated team.

Answer: Tea

Leaving the fifth Pit Stop in Kunming, China (at Green Lake Park), teams were told to take a taxi to Jin Fu Yi Zhan Tea Shop where they would need to partake in a quick tea tasting involving a new mango-papaya flavour. Once both members downed their tea and received a brick of the very same flavour, they would receive their next clue sending them to the airport (to finally leave China after a couple legs).

Answer: Kolkata

Finally able to leave China, teams were told to purchase tickets to the city of Kolkata, India, one of the many densely-populated locations in the country. Once there, teams needed to reach Kolkata Town Hall by taxi in order to reach their next clue box. Because teams arrived in the middle of the night, they arrived quite late and had to wait as a group until morning to reach the box.

It turned out to be the Road Block.

At Kolkata Town Hall, teams needed to use their memory and their taste buds to complete the Road Block in which one member needed to enter a large room, give a papaya, a mango, and their brick of tea to an auctioneer, then locate the tea that they had tasted the day before in China on a table containing over a thousand cups of different teas. Ron, Jet, Kisha, Kent, Mallory, Zev, Flight Time, and Luke all decide to have tea-time in this one.

When they completed the task, team members were given a bottle of Snapple containing their next clue in the lid.

Answer: 'Hindu Art'

Following the clue in their Snapple lids, teams located the Detour at the Tiwari Tea Stall in Thakur Bari, part of Northern Kolkata. This Detour was a choice between 'Hindu Art' and 'Bengali Literature'. In 'Bengali Art', teams traveled to a nearby statue shop where they needed to paint and decorate their statues according to a model set up for them. Once they did this to the specifications they received their next clue. Jen and Kisha, Kent and Vyxsin, Ron and Christina, Flight Time and Big Easy, and Margie and Luke finished this one.

In 'Bengali Literature', teams collected several bundles of textbooks and delivered them in school bus rickshaws to a local school before receiving their next clue. Gary and Mallory, Zev and Justin, and Jet and Cord did this one.

Answer: Margie and Luke

After the Detour, teams were told to head to the sixth Pit Stop of the race near the Fountain of Joy at Victoria Memorial. Here, Gary and Mallory placed first winning themselves dinner and a Bollywood show during their Pit Stop in India as well as one million Indian Rupees (the equivalent of about $20,000 USD). Oh...and some Snapple.

After a long day of tea drinking (for hours) it was Margie and Luke who stepped on the mat in last place becoming the fourth team eliminated.
