Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In Leg 1, team members needed to decipher a message using which of these?

Answer: Nautical flags

Upon arriving in Sydney, Australia in Leg 1, teams needed to find Oceanworld at Manly where they had the first Road Block of the race. Here, eleven people descended into the shark tank and found a large nautical compass at the bottom. When they returned to the surface with it, they needed to use the flags along the sides of the compass (corresponding to letters) to decipher the message waiting outside: MANLY 16 FT SKIFF SAILING CLUB, FIND THE COMMODORE, and tell him I AM BETWEEN THE DEVIL AND THE DEEP BLUE SEA. Mallory, Amanda, Kisha, Margie, Flight Time, Vyxsin, Justin, Cara, Mel, Christina, and Jet all took the plunge.
2. In Lijiang, China in Leg 4 team members collected how many pendants representing the Chinese Zodiac?

Answer: Twelve

Making their way to exceedingly high altitudes in Lijiang, China, teams found the Road Block at Jade Dragon Mountain's Spruce Meadow. Here, one member of each team needed to search through thousands of pendants for twelve depicting different animals of the Zodiac.

When they had all twelve they needed to arrange them in order on a wicker mobile to receive their clue. Luke, Cord, Cara, Mallory, Big Easy, Jen, Zev, Christina, and Vyxsin ended up completing this one by recalling the twelve signs and properly placing them before heading back to the Old Town of Lijiang for another Zodiac-themed task.
3. Which team used the Express Pass in China in Leg 5 (during the Road Block)?

Answer: Gary and Mallory

In Kunming, China, teams made their way to the Stone Forest to complete a Road Block task. This one involved large bone pieces and the rather interesting twenty-foot skeleton of a dilophosaurus. Teams needed to use a diagram to properly assemble this dinosaur and receive their next clue. Kisha, Christina, Margie, Kent, Jet, Jaime, Big Easy, and Justin ended up attempting this one. Gary opted to complete the task, but when he and Mallory realized how many people were already completing the task, they utilized their Express Pass and skipped the task.
4. In Leg 6 in Kolkata, India, team members searched through excessive amounts of tea of which flavours for the Road Block?

Answer: Papaya and mango

In Leg 6, teams started in Kunming, China with a quick tea-tasting. Upon arriving at Kolkata's Town Hall, one member of each team needed to recall the papaya/mango flavour experienced the day before to locate one cup of tea (amongst hundreds) and present it to a guru for their clue. Ron, Jet, Kisha, Kent, Mallory, Zev, Flight Time, and Luke all went for this one with Ron and Jet using their sense of smell to locate the right one. For some players, this task took four hours of trial and error. After the task, teams received a bottle of Snapple with their next destination on the inside of the cap.
5. Which team member completed the sadhu-seeking Road Block task in Leg 7 in Varanasi, India?

Answer: Ron

Arriving at a tonga stand in the holy city of Varanasi, India, teams found a Road Block task during which members needed to travel through the city streets identifying five holy men from photos. When they approached these men they would be given slips of paper which, when arrange properly, would give them a 'meaning of life' which could be traded for a clue (the phrase was "Once you're over the hill you pick up speed.") Kent, Big Easy, Jen, Gary, Ron, Justin, and Cord did this task. Ron's involvement may have been the fatal mistake for the team; they were unable to recover from his getting lost along the Ganges.
6. In Leg 8, team members completed a chimney-sweeping Road Block task in what European country?

Answer: Austria

Reaching Salzburg, Austria in Leg 8, teams found the Road Block clue outside Sternbräu Restaurant. Here, one member of each duo ended up donning black chimney-sweep uniforms to head to the roof and use tools to clean three different chimneys. When they had done this to the proper specifications, they could go to the basement, open the traps, and claim their clue inside. Big Easy, Zev, Kisha, Vyxsin, Cord, and Gary finished this rather tame Road Block before driving themselves to the Villa Trapp just outside the city.
7. Which team was forced to complete a Speed Bump task before the Road Block in Leg 9 (in the Principality of Liechtenstein)?

Answer: Gary and Mallory

Arriving at the Liechtenstein/Austria border in Schaanwald, team members needed to hop onto a motorized bike and cross the entirety of the Principality following a provided map. At the end of the route, Justin, Flight Time, Jen, Jet, Vyxsin, and Gary needed to provide the number on their odometer. If they arrived in exactly twenty-two miles, they could receive their clue and return to their partner at the nearby Castle Gutenberg. If they got it incorrect, they'd have to start again from the beginning. Gary and Mallory, who placed last in the previous leg, completed the Speed Bump before the Road Block during which they had to correctly mix gas and oil to fuel their bike for the challenge.
8. In Leg 10, team members needed to complete a Road Block task involving the Travelocity Roaming Gnome.

Answer: True

In Leg 10, team members arrived at a restaurant called Le Petit Cervin in Zermatt, Switzerland to enjoy some Swiss chocolate. Here, one member of each team needed to properly colour, freeze, and fill a mold of the Travelocity Roaming Gnome to created a chocolate statuette.

This intricate process included painting the mold, freezing the chocolate in snow for a half hour, and touching up the gnome. After Vyxsin, Flight Time, Jen, Mallory, and Zev did this task, they received a gnome, their next clue, and instructions to run on foot to the next Pit Stop in Zermatt.
9. In Leg 11 in Rio de Janeiro, team members needed to learn steps to which dance?

Answer: Samba

Arriving at Largo de São Francisco de Paula in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, teams found a Road block task which required that Zev, Mallory, Kisha, and Big Easy participate (since all team members required five Road Blocks each heading into the final leg of the race). For this task, the participating team members needed to dress in ceremonial garb and learn samba dance moves.

Then, leading a procession of dancers, they needed to properly complete the dance for a judge who would give them the go-ahead to get their next clue.

After this, teams headed to the Copacabana.
10. How many Road Blocks did teams complete in the final leg of the race (in Florida)?

Answer: Two

In the final leg of the race in Florida, teams encountered two Road block tasks and no Detours. Whichever team member did not complete the first Road Block had to complete the second. For the first one, Kisha, Flight Time, and Gary used a forklift to place a boat on the tall racks of a dry dock at the Rickenbacker Marina.

In the second task at Jules' Undersea Lodge, Jen, Big Easy, and Mallory descended into the water on submersibles to find clues hidden in treasure chests at the bottom of a mermaid lagoon.

This marks the second occasion in the show's history in which two Road Block tasks appeared in the same leg of the race.
