Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Upon arriving in Salt Spring, British Columbia in Leg 3, teams had to eat which of these local foods?

Answer: Blueberry pie

Leaving Dawson City, Yukon in Leg 3, the nine remaining teams were told to fly to Salt Spring Island in British Columbia. This was only done by flying back through Whitehorse, Yukon and down to Vancouver, B.C. Once there, teams could locate a sea plane that would take them to Salt Spring Island and, upon arrival, they could find their way to the docks at Ganges Harbour to collect their next clue.

This sent them to the Salt Spring Saturday Market where, after eating two blueberry pies, they could receive the keys to their vehicles and their next clue. Todd and Anna and Leanne and Mar both used their Express Pass to skip the pie-eating task.
2. The Speed Bump found in Leg 3 (in Salt Spring Island, B.C.) involved tasting which of these local items?

Answer: Salt

Upon arriving at the docks in Salt Spring, Zainab and Monica immediately had to face their Speed Bump challenge since they placed last in the non-elimination second leg. For this task, the girls had to remain at the dock and taste test eight different varieties of fleur de sel harvested from Salt Spring Island and, using their senses, properly identify the names of all eight from ten flavours provided. Once they had all eight they could continue on.

They got it correct on the first attempt, losing minimal time and finishing before any other teams landed.
3. During the third leg of the race in B.C., team members completing the Road Block had to ride around a course in which of these?

Answer: Corvette

Completing their pie eating challenge, teams loaded into their Chevrolet Bolt vehicles and found Route Info leading them to Mount Erskine Provincial Park. Once there, they found their next clue in one of three of the many fairy doors in the trees. This clue ended up being a Road Block task asking teams 'who's good with numbers?' For this, teams needed to drive to Vesuvius Bay and take a ferry to Crofton, and reach the Vancouver Island Motorsport Circuit. Once there, the selected team member (Joseph, Todd, Leanne, Courtney, Phil, Courtney, Kwame, Monica, and Nancy) had to drive a Corvette a full lap around the winding course in under three minutes. Due to time concerns, Nancy and Mellisa used their Express Pass, while in last place, to avoid searching the fairy doors.
4. In the third leg of the race, a second Road Block task forced team members to work with which types of animals?

Answer: Birds

After the Road Block, teams needed to visit Pacific Northwest Raptors to find the next clue box. This ended up being a second Road Block task, during which the team members who did not complete the first task has to 'tie the knot', literally, by learning how to tie a complex falconer's knot with one hand. If they could tie the knot and secure a falcon to their falconer's glove in under fifteen seconds, they could receive a small scroll containing their next clue.
5. Which team was eliminated in British Columbia in the end of Leg 3?

Answer: Joseph and Akash

After their second Road Block tasks, teams were told to drive themselves to the Kinsol Trestle whereupon they could locate Jon at the mat and check into the third Pit Stop of the race atop one of the highest timber bridges in the world. There was a three-way race for first that was ultimately won by Taylor and Courtney (though they were followed by Express Pass users Todd and Anna and Leanne and Mar).

The brother and sister ended up winning a trip for two to Boston, Massachusetts. After leading for much of the leg, underdogs Joseph and Akash ended up falling behind during the two Road Blocks and found themselves eliminated.
6. In Leg 4, teams flew to Indonesia, arriving in what major city?

Answer: Jakarta

Early in the morning at the start of Leg 4, teams were taken to Duncan, British Columbia where, opening their first clue, they were told to fly to the city of Jakarta, the capital of Indonesia more than 13,000 kilometres away. After flying through Vancouver and Tokyo, teams touched down in Jakarta and made their way to Fatahillah Square to join in a traditional welcoming dance to receive their next clue. Teams had to sign up for performances upon arriving since they got there so late at night.
7. What kind of U-Turn was featured in Indonesia in Leg 4?

Answer: Blind Double U-Turn

Teams made their way to Pelabuhan Sunda Kelapa-- Jakarta's old port-- to find their next clue, and it was there that they located a truckload of prickly durian fruits. Once they transported enough durians onto a docked pinisi boat, they could get their next clue, which turned out to send them to Pasar Burong Barito, a local bird market.

There, teams located the Double Blind U-Turn, which allowed them to force teams to complete both sides of the upcoming Detour (and without sharing their identities). Nancy and Mellisa U-Turned Martina and Phil while Zainab and Monica U-Turned Todd and Anna.
8. Which Detour task was voluntarily completed by all teams in Indonesia in Leg 4?

Answer: 'Ular'

Teams got to learn about cultures for their Detour when they chose between 'Ular' and '???'. In 'Ular', teams headed to Langsat Park where they had to choose a crate and clean and dry whatever snakes they found inside. After, racers needed to use an alternative healing technique by attaching a leech to their partner's arm for five minutes.

In 'Kebaya', teams instead to the Mayestik Market to locate a specific textile shop. There, they needed to use the sewing machines to sew two panels into women's blazers. Leanne and Mar, Courtney and Adam, Nancy and Mellisa, Zainab and Monica, Taylor and Courtney, and Dylan and Kwame completed 'Ular' while none of the teams completed 'Kebaya'. Because they were U-Turned, Martina and Phil and Todd and Anna had to complete both tasks.
9. The Road Block in Indonesia in Leg 4 asked team members which of the following?

Answer: 'Who's handy?'

After the Detour task, teams were told to head to Gedung Teater Bulungan to find their next clue. This ended up being the Road Block for the fourth leg of the race, and for this one, teams needed to choose someone who could be 'handy'. For this task, the selected team members (Nancy, Adam, Leanne, Monica, Taylor, Dylan, Phil, and Todd) had to master the Saman, the Dance of a Thousand Hands, learning the unique choreography and performing onstage with a dance troupe. If they could complete the performance properly, they could continue racing.
10. Which team was eliminated in Indonesia in Leg 4?

Answer: Todd and Anna

After the Road Block, teams were given the clue sending them to the next Pit Stop in Merdeka Square. When they found the MONAS Monument in the center of the square, they could check in and attempt to avoid elimination. In a tense race for first, Leanne and Mar narrowly beat Nancy and Mellisa, winning a trip for two to Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam and claiming their second victory of the competition.

After being U-Turned, it was front-runners Todd and Anna who fell to the back of the back and arrived at the mat in last place.

They were eliminated in eighth place overall.
