The base camp is established in a quarry formed by mountain cliffs, so it is remote enough to avoid walkers, at least until they run out of food in the cities and begin migrating. The camp also has a lake for fishing and doing laundry and woods for hunting. It used to be a public park.

Carl and Lori were with Shane when they believed Rick to be dead, but the Grimes family reunited when Rick arrived unexpectedly at the camp. The Peletier and Morales families were the other two primary families with children at the camp.

The Samuels family were never a part of the Atlanta Survivor Camp. They became members of the prison camp sometime between seasons 3 and 4. Ryan Samuels died, leaving Carol to take care of Lizzie and Mika.

Rick was not initially a member of the camp but joined later, at which point he began to assert authority over the group. At first, however, Shane appeared to be the de-facto leader of the camp, and people looked to him for direction, though there was no official organization or government so early into the apocalypse.

It was Shane, along with Lori, who established the camp after seeing the Safe Zone inside Atlanta overrun and being bombed by the military.

Jim was a mechanic prior to the apocalypse and was often shown working on the camp's vehicles. T-Dog was on the supply run to the city of Atlanta. The camp did not appear to have a doctor, and Carol's abusive husband Ed did not do much of anything.

For a camp located in semi-rural Georgia, there was a surprising lack of guns. Merle had a handgun, which he pulled on T-Dog on the roof of Atlanta. Andrea had a handgun that her father gave to her for personal protection. She pulled it on Rick when he first appeared in the department store the survivors were scangening. Shane also owned his service weapon and a rifle. Dale also had a wooden rifle.

No other characters in the Atlanta Survivor Camp, however, were depicted as owning firearms prior to Rick's recovery of his bag of guns. Daryl used a crossbow as his primary weapon, T-Dog a baseball bat, Jim a pitch fork, and Glenn a crowbar. Carol and Sophia were not depicted as using any weapons at all.

No construction was being done in the Atlanta Survivor Camp, and Dale served as a lookout for the camp. He often stood on top of his RV with a pair of binoculars.

It's hard to imagine Merle doing laundry, and the first time audiences see him, he's with the supply runners in Atlanta.

While Andrea went on the supply run to Atlanta, her sister Amy did not. Amy was shown fishing and doing laundry as her primary contributions to the camp.

Only Daryl is correctly matched with his job as a hunter. When he was first introduced on "The Walking Dead," Daryl was shown emerging from the woods after tracking a deer he had shot with arrows.

Maggie and Beth are not introduced until season 2, when Carl is taken to the Greene Family Farm after being accidentally shot by a farmhand who was out hunting. Michonne is not introduced until season 3, when she helps Andrea to survive after being separated from the group. Jacqui, who was close to T-Dog and participated in the initial supply run to Atlanta and also assisted with the laundry, is the only woman of these four to have been a part of the Atlanta survivor camp.

While Rick, Daryl, Glenn, and T-Dog were in Atlanta looking for Merle, walkers overran the camp and killed several people, including Amy. Jim was bitten but hid it. When Rick and the others returned, the survivors decided to abandon the camp and move on to the CDC, though Shane would have preferred to go to Fort Benning.
