Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. A fun episode from season four of "Deep Space Nine" has Quark bringing his brother Rom and nephew Nog to Earth for Nog's entrance to Starfleet Academy. As they arrive they experience problems with their warp drive and must detonate Quark's smuggled kemocite cargo to collapse the warp field. They crash and wake up in a laboratory in Area 51. What year is it?

Answer: 1947

The xenophobic men assume that the three Ferengi are 'Martians' and try to interrogate them as to their purpose for coming to Earth. Odo appears to help them - he had stowed away on Quark's ship, with knowledge of Quark's smuggling activities - and with the help of a nurse and her fiance, they manage to reclaim their ship and effect their escape. The quartet find a way to use their remaining kemacite and the nuclear test being performed at the site to fling themselves back to the 'present.'

2. In "The Sword of Kahless" from season four, a Klingon Dahar Master arrived on the station saying he knew where the sword belonging to the first leader of the Klingons was; he enlisted the help of Worf and Jadzia Dax to retrieve it. Who was that Klingon?

Answer: Kor

Kor, Worf and Jadzia found the sword in the Gamma Quadrant but decided that it would divide the Empire if it was returned to Qo'noS. They left it floating in space to be found at some later time by someone who was destined to possess it. The term 'Dahar Master' was a title given to the greatest of Klingon warriors. This was also the first episode to fully feature Worf since he arrived on Deep Space 9.

3. In the 5th season episode "In the Cards", Jake Sisko wants to get his dad a special present at an auction run by Quark. Whose rookie baseball card, from 1951, does Jake get for him?

Answer: Willie Mays

Jake enlists the help of his friend Nog to get the money needed to buy the card, since Federation citizens have no currency, and in the end are unable to win the card at auction. Instead, they must procure a number of pieces of equipment to exchange with Dr. Giger, the scientist who won the auction lot that included the card.

4. The fifth season episode "Dr. Bashir, I presume?" Dr. Lewis Zimmerman comes to Deep Space 9 to do a complete profile on Dr. Bashir for the purpose of using him as a template for Starfleet's Emergency Medical Hologram program. In the process, however, a dark secret from Dr. Bashir's past comes to light. What was it?

Answer: He had been genetically modified as a child.

Dr. Bashir's secret came into the open when his visiting parents came to the infirmary to assure Julian that they would not reveal the history of his genetic modification (illegal in the Federation), unknowingly telling it to the holographic projection Dr. Zimmerman had designed to look like Dr. Bashir.

Question by reedy
5. What is the name of the captain of the Klingon ship that is featured in the season five episode "Trials and Tribble-ations"?

Answer: Koloth

"Trials and Tribble-ations" pays homage to the "Star Trek" episode "The Trouble With Tribbles" by using original footage blended with new to recreate some of the classic scenes with a new spin.

During the original episode a Klingon ship shows up to provide some of the episode's tension and is commanded by Koloth who also appeared in season two of "Deep Space Nine". Koloth was good friends with Dax and she desperately wants to meet him to see him in his prime. Sisko does not agree and decides against it.

Kor and Kang were also Klingons that appeared in the original "Star Trek" series and also appeared in "Deep Space Nine". They too were old friends of Dax but did not appear in this episode.

9. In the episode "Once More Unto the Breach" Kor returned, asking Worf to help him find a way to end his life as a warrior. He had been cast aside on Qo'noS as an unwanted old man. He asked Worf to intercede with General Martok on his behalf. Kor had some personal issues with Martok but had a physical problem as well. What was it?

Answer: dementia

Kor was becoming forgetful and confused, often embarrassing himself. Worf personally assigned him to a position on a ship in Martok's squadron to raid Dominion bases. Kor performed poorly until given a chance to distract a fleet of Jem'Hadar ships pursuing the Klingons. He and his volunteer crew were successful in delaying the Jem'Hadar, giving the Klingon squadron enough time to escape before being killed themselves and thereby earning entry into Sto-Vo-Kor.
