"Trust Me, I'm the Doctor." Trivia Quiz

To mark my 50th quiz, I've made one about a show that's over 50 years old--"Doctor Who". This quiz covers similarities between the first three Doctors of the 2005 revival--Nine, Ten, and Eleven--and their adventures in series 1-7. Allons-y!

Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. The Ninth, Tenth, and Eleventh Doctors are played by, respectively, Christopher Eccleston, David Tennant, and Matt Smith. What word are they all fond of using, both with their allies and their enemies? (Hint: it's the first word the Doctor says in "Rose".)

Answer: Run

Nine tells Rose to run when confronted with Autons. There's an "outrageous amount of running" on the show, as Donna tells Jenny in "The Doctor's Daughter". In "The Waters of Mars", the Doctor points out to Adelaide, while running down long tunnels, that it would have been a good idea to have "little, foldaway bikes" at the base.

The Doctor loves to dance as well, with all three getting in their moves throughout the show.
2. Nine and Ten take companions to Earth and New Earth around what year?

Answer: Five billion

Nine takes Rose to see the destruction of Earth in "The End of the World" as a way to show her that humans don't destroy themselves and are still around in billions of years. Ten takes Rose and Martha to New Earth in "New Earth" and "Gridlock". Nine, Ten, and Rose also see Lady Cassandra and the Face of Boe.
3. Which classic villain/s do the Ninth, Tenth, and Eleventh Doctors each fight?

Answer: Daleks

Nine doesn't face Cybermen; he sees an inactive head in a museum in "Dalek" but never fights any of them. Only Ten encounters the Master, and Eleven faces Silurians. Daleks appear as major villains in every series except six, where the appearance is limited to a brief scene in "The Wedding of River Song".
4. Nine, Ten, and Eleven have a fondness for bananas. Which Doctor/s swap someone's gun for a banana?

Answer: Nine and Eleven

In "The Doctor Dances", Nine exchanges Jack's gun for a banana. The Doctor blew up the factory Jack's gun came from, and it's implied that he planted a banana grove there instead (although someone else may have planted the bananas--the show never says which).

In "Let's Kill Hitler", Eleven swaps a gun that Melody Pond is about to use to kill him with a banana. Ten also likes bananas--in "The Girl in the Fireplace", he claims to have invented the banana daiquiri centuries early, and in "Smith and Jones" says he likes banana milkshakes.

However, he never pulls the banana/gun swap trick.
5. Nine and Ten each meet at least one historical person known primarily as a famous _______; Eleven does not. Fill in the blank.

Answer: Author

Nine meets Charles Dickens in "The Unquiet Dead" and claims to be his biggest fan; Dickens appreciates the flattery. Ten meets William Shakespeare in series three and Agatha Christie in series four. Eleven meets Churchill and Hitler, both of whom wrote books, but are not primarily known as writers.
6. Ten goes here; Eleven encounters an alien from here. What planet am I talking about?

Answer: Mars

Ten travels to Mars without a companion in "The Waters of Mars" and encounters a virus that turns people into monsters that create water. In "Cold War", Eleven and Clara meet an old Martian Ice Warrior on a Russian submarine.
7. The Doctor travels through time and space in the Tardis, but he's also used a vortex manipulator a couple of times. Who among Nine, Ten, and Eleven does not travel this way at least once?

Answer: Nine

In "The Sound of Drums", Ten quickly repairs Jack's vortex manipulator to get out of a sticky situation in the year 100 trillion and back to modern Earth. Eleven uses it several times in "The Big Bang". It's implied that it's the same device Ten uses, since Eleven's is said to have come off the wrist of a "handsome Time Agent," who is likely Captain Jack, but this detail is not confirmed.
8. Some companions accompany more than one version of the Doctor on adventures. Who of the following does not, and ventures with only one (Ninth, Tenth, or Eleventh) Doctor?

Answer: Donna Noble

Rose and Jack are companions of Nine and Ten. River sees Ten at the Library; this meeting is the first time he's ever seen her, but River knows him well, as she has had adventures with Eleven in her past. As they both time travel, they don't meet in quite the right order. Donna travels only with Ten, as does her grandfather, Wilfred.
9. During a chess match in "Nightmare in Silver", Mr. Clever, a Cyber-Planner who takes over part of Eleven's mind, spouts which two catchphrases of Nine and Ten's?

Answer: "Fantastic" and "Allons-y"

Mr. Clever calls the Doctor's former regenerations "ten complete rejects." Nine likes calling things and people "fantastic." Although Mr. Clever opts for "Allons-y," Ten says "Brilliant" and "I'm sorry" much more in the show. He says "Allons-y" fewer than twenty times. In "Midnight", he explains that "Allons-y" is French for "Let's go."
10. The Doctor usually regenerates in the presence of a companion. Among Nine, Ten, and Eleven, who regenerates alone?

Answer: Ten

Nine has Rose and Eleven has Clara during regeneration, but Ten has no one. In "Journey's End", Ten gathers eight allies in the Tardis and, for once, has more than enough companions to fly the Tardis with the proper number of pilots (six). Yet when he regenerates in "The End of Time Part 2", he is alone.

With no friend present to be brave for, Ten can let some of his fear and sadness at having to change show, as he likes his present form and knows that he may regenerate into someone who is happy not to be him anymore, like how Six feels about Five in "The Twin Dilemma". On an ironic note, his final words are "I don't want to go," a contrast to the "Let's go" of "Allons-y." The Second Doctor also does not want to regenerate and has no companions with him when he does so.
