Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. How was "Neech" Manley executed?

Answer: electrocution

It was the third time he'd had an execution date, but the previous two times the Governor had granted stays. Not this time, though. As the switch was thrown, Neech ranted about the revenge he'd exact when he was reincarnated.
2. Warden Brodeur told Scully and Mulder about the bitterness and resentment festering in the prison, and suggested that the deaths were part of a plot he described as "elaborate as _____."

Answer: Shakespeare

The Warden said "there's nothing but bitterness and resentment in here: seven days a week, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. It gets honed to a real fine point." He was convinced that there was an elaborate plot to carry out Neech's threats after his death.
3. When the Warden showed Scully the body of the first murdered guard, what was wrong with it?

Answer: it was being eaten by maggots

Scully called the Warden over and told him, "I suggest you get it into refrigeration, or you're not going to have anything left to autopsy."
4. Talking to death row inmate John Speranza about Neech's threats, Mulder mentioned reincarnation. What term did Speranza say Neech would have used?

Answer: transmigration of the soul

Speranza seemed to have information about the list, but he wasn't inclined to give it up, possibly for fear of retaliation from Neech's reincarnated form.
5. The second guard was found in pieces. What piece was found by the inmates in a can?

Answer: head

The head had been severed below the chin and stabbed with a putty knife. The body wasn't located until later, when the Warden opened the door to his office and found it sitting in his chair.
6. Where was Roque taken for his fateful meeting with the Warden?

Answer: showers

He expected to go to the office, but was instead directed to the showers. He told the Warden that he was the fifth name on the list and then the Warden beat him to death. When the agents showed up, the Warden led them to believe that Roque was the third victim from the list, conveniently covering up his own crime.
7. How many men did the Warden say knew the executioner's name?

Answer: 3

Mulder had figured out that Neech was killing the people who'd caused him physical harm in life and assumed the executioner would be on the list. The Warden didn't want to give him the name, though, saying it was strictly confidential; they found the executioner by placing an ad, then disguised his identity during the execution and payed him in cash. Mulder reasoned that if the Warden gave him the name and Mulder found he really was in danger, then the list of suspects would be narrowed to four people (Mulder was adding Neech to the three men the Warden was counting).
8. Daniel Charez, the lawyer, evaded his death by helping Speranza.

Answer: False

He tried, as well as trying to visit Neech's widow, Danielle. Neech blamed Charez for his being in jail because he'd been his lawyer, but Charez knew he'd been a young lawyer assigned to a much bigger case than he could handle. He couldn't avoid his place on the list, though, and Neech suffocated him on his couch.
9. Who shot Vincent Parmelly, the guard who had taken up with Neech's widow, Danielle?

Answer: Danielle

She shot him because she believed he was Neech. She seemed afraid that he would be coming to kill her after she'd taken up with Parmelly.
10. How did Warden Brodeur die?

Answer: car crash

The Warden passed Scully and Mulder driving down the road and swatted a fly off his face. He looked down at the passenger side seat where it had landed and when he looked back up, he saw Neech in the rearview mirror. Neech jumped on him from the backseat, grabbed the steering wheel, and drove the car into a tree, killing the Warden and completing the promise of his list.
