He'd already killed Lladoslav Miriskovic and buried him in the woods. Then, when he was washing blood off his hands in his kitchen, he was again faced by Miriskovic. He killed him and was stuffing him in the trunk of his car when the cops appeared. After the cops subdued Patnik, they opened the trunk to find that the body was actually of Patnik's wife.

Scully had been sitting in her room watching hours of videotapes recovered from Patnik's home. She walked out to the ice machine when she noticed Mulder talking to the Cigarette Smoking Man in his car. She then saw Mulder hand him a videotape.

She was doing dishes and saw him in a hammock in the backyard kissing a young blonde woman. She grabbed a shotgun and killed him. As it turned out, though, the man was her neighbor, not her husband, and the blonde was his dog!

I don't care what anybody says..." Meanwhile, he walked over to an exercise bike, sat down, and started peddling slowly.

When Scully opened a trunk on the floor to find a collection of videotapes, he got off the bike and joined her.

Mulder had called her but while they were talking, she thought she heard clicking on the line, as though someone was tapping into the conversation. She ended the call with Mulder and then went on a rampage in the room, searching unsuccessfully for a bug.

Mulder was called to the morgue to identify a body they thought was Scully, but it wasn't. When he heard they'd been unable to reach Margaret Scully, he went to her house and found Scully there.

Mulder was clearly sympathetic as Scully explained, "I was so sure, Mulder. I saw things and I heard things, and it was just like world was turned upside-down. Everybody was out to get me." Mulder reassured her by joking, "Now you know how I feel most of the time."

Mulder went to Stroman's house and hid in the bushes when the cable technician arrived. Mulder went around to the back of the house to look for a better window to spy through and heard shots from inside. He rushed in and found X standing over the two men's dead bodies. X told Mulder that he'd failed to figure out what was going on in time, and that X fulfilled his orders to kill the men before Mulder could expose them. Later, X met with the Cigarette Smoking Man and told him that he'd carried out his orders, but that the identity of the man who'd informed Mulder's source remained unknown, suggesting that X was indeed trying to help Mulder.
