Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Which character from the Blizzard multiplayer shooter 'Overwatch', who pilots a pink mecha, is shown blowing a bubble with bubble gum in her victory pose?

Answer: D.Va

'Overwatch' is set in a future where hostile robots known as Omnics have taken over, and the UN formed an international task force of mecha pilots, known as Overwatch, to combat them. Hana Song, aka D.Va, is a South Korean mecha pilot who used to be a professional gamer, and now uses her gaming skills to fight.

In-universe, she is a 'Starcraft II' champion (a game which has a huge Korean fandom in real life). She is known as a 'tank hero' due to her ability take large amounts of damage, but move relatively slowly.

She has whisker-like marks on her face and is often associated with rabbit motifs - for instance, her headphones have rabbits on, as does her catsuit.
2. Which first-person shooter featured the quote, "I'm here to kick ass and chew bubble gum, and I'm all out of gum"?

Answer: Duke Nukem

The original line, said by 'Rowdy' Roddy Piper in the zombie film 'They Live', found its way into the 'Duke Nukem' series. Specifically, Duke Nukem says the line in 'Duke Nukem 3D' which, as the name suggests, is the first 3D entry in the series. It was released in 1996 and is set in the 21st century, with numerous references to pop culture; besides 'They Live', there are also references to 'Star Wars', 'Indiana Jones' and 'Jaws'.

The game was criticised for its depiction of women, due to the scantily-clad dancers in the strip club featured.
3. Which character in 'Sonic Heroes', known for his laziness and terrible singing, uses bubble gum to prevent himself and his team mates from falling?

Answer: Vector the Crocodile

Vector the Crocodile first appeared in 'Knuckles Chaotix' along with fellow Chaotix Crew members Charmy Bee, Espio the Chameleon and Mighty the Armadillo, who was later dropped. The group returned for 'Sonic Heroes' as Team Chaotix, where they run a detective agency and are asked by a mysterious stranger (later revealed to be Dr Robotnik aka Eggman) to find the Chaos Emeralds. Vector is the oldest and strongest of the team, and a lazy but good-natured detective who loves music, despite being terrible at it, to the point where his horrible singing kills robots. One of his signature moves in the game, Bubble Gum Descent, has him blow a bubble that helps him fly or float down gently rather than falling, while Charmy and Espio hang onto him.
4. In 'The Curse of Monkey Island', the hero Guybrush Threepwood uses a combination of bubble gum and what other object to make a gold tooth float out of a window?

Answer: A helium balloon

To go into more detail: Guybrush has to inhale a helium balloon, chew some bubble gum and blow a bubble with it, and the bubble will float out of a window with a gold tooth inside, which belonged to Captain Blondebeard, a chicken shop owner. This specifically occurs in 'Mega Monkey', the harder mode of the game. 'The Curse of Monkey Island' is the third game in the 'Monkey Island' series and features Elaine Marley, Guybrush's girlfriend and the governor of the Tri-Island, being turned into a golden statue and stolen by marauders after she puts on a cursed ring. To revive her, Guybrush must find a diamond ring of greater value than the cursed ring. Like every other game in the series, it has some pretty wacky minigames, such as a banjo fight.
5. Bubble gum takes a dark turn in 'Mortal Kombat X', the tenth game in the notoriously gruesome fighting series. Which character is not only seen blowing bubbles with it, but also uses it in her Fatality?

Answer: Cassie Cage

To be more specific: Cassie shoots her opponent in the head. She then blows a bubble with her gum, then sticks it on the bullet hole, and the blood gushing out of the hole inflates the gum, making a bubble filled with blood. She also blows bubbles on the character select screen and in 'Mortal Kombat 11' in one of her entrances, where she dangles from a rope and says, "'Sup?" She is the daughter of Johnny Cage and Sonya Blade, two of the original game characters (Jacqui Briggs is Jax's daughter), and looks like her mum but acts like her dad, and is also revealed to have similar abilities to him.

As a Special Forces member, she makes heavy use of drones and military weaponry.
6. In 'Earthbound', which type of animal can the character Jeff persuade to join him by giving him bubble gum?

Answer: Monkey

The appropriately named Bubble Monkey (aka Balloon Monkey) is a monkey who teams up with Jeff Andonuts and helps him fight. It can blow bubbles with bubble gum that enable him to float, and he helps Jeff cross obstacles. He leaves Jeff later on in the game after meeting a female monkey. Unlike the other main characters, Jeff cannot use psychic powers, but he is talented at fixing things, being the son of a scientist.

He also uses guns. He is part of a group that also includes Ness, the main character, Poo (yes, really), a martial artist, and Paula, a psychic girl who wields a frying pan.

Their task is to travel the world and collect melodies to defeat an alien known as Giygas.
7. In which mobile phone and Facebook game will you encounter a recurring antagonist known as the Bubble Gum Troll?

Answer: Candy Crush Saga

The Bubble Gum Troll appears throughout the story mode of 'Candy Crush Saga', sometimes trapping random people in bubbles or placing obstacles in their paths. As his name suggests, he is a pink troll made out of bubble gum. He originally appears in the Bubble Gum Bridge level. On the plus side, the Flash version has a boost based on him, which it jams the chocolate machines for several turns.

The spin-off, 'Candy Crush Soda Saga', contains some levels where you have to chew bubble gum in order to free the candies and make matches. Like chocolate, bubble gum spreads and becomes trickier to get rid of if not dealt with quickly.
8. Which game, released for the SNES in 1992, involves the main character using bubble gum to blow a bubble that made him float, or create bombs and bouncing balls?

Answer: Skuljagger

'Sküljagger: Revolt of the Westicans', to give it its full title, is one of the more obscure games in this quiz. Sküljagger is an evil pirate who enslaves the island of Westica, and Storm Jaxon, the player character, has to stop him. It is mainly known for the bizarre mechanic which involves getting Storm to eat bubble gum in different fruity flavours. Watermelon gum turns him into a projectile, orange gum makes him spit bombs, grape gum encloses him in a bouncy ball that enables him to jump higher, and he uses the cherry gum to blow a massive red bubble that enables him to float.

The player must keep pressing the A button to keep the bubble inflated. The game features a practice mode to help players become accustomed to using the power-up.
9. The puzzle game 'Sid & Al's Incredible Toons' features a series of items, and one of these is bubble gum, which the characters can use to help them float. What kind of animals are Sid and Al?

Answer: Mouse and cat

To give them their full names, Sid E Mouse and Al E Cat (get it?) 'Sid & Al's Incredible Toons' features 100 puzzles which need to be completed, in the form of Rube Goldberg contraptions, and the player can also create their own. The tasks will involve objectives such as poking Al in the tail with a pin or making a dragon burn him. Al and Sid both antagonise each other and Al will continuously try to eat Sid. Bubble gum and bananas can be used to lure Sid or Al in a certain direction; they use the bubble gum to float (Al eats the whole piece while Sid leaves a bit), and throw the banana's peel over their shoulders to trip up the other character. Sid is also attracted to cheese and Al is attracted to fish.
10. Sarah Fortune, aka Miss Fortune, is a bounty hunter and champion who specialises in marksmanship. She has several different alternative outfits for different worlds, with the Arcade World one featuring her dressed in pink and blowing a bubble with bubble gum. In which online multi-player game does she appear?

Answer: League of Legends

'League of Legends' is a battle royale-type online game where players compete against each other on a map, inspired by 'World of Warcraft'. There are over a hundred 'Champions' to choose from, who belong to the following classes: Assassin, Fighter, Mage, Marksman, Support and Tank.

As the name suggests, the Marksman class specialises in shooting and causing great amounts of damage. Miss Fortune is a bounty hunter from the port of Bilgewater, who wields a massive pair of pistols called Shock and Awe.

In the Arcade World, she is a shoot-'em-up expert and part of a trio with the swordswoman Riven and the musician Sona.
