In the very first "Call of Duty" (2003) video game the actor Jason Statham provided the voice of Sergeant Waters. In the video game Sergeant Waters was a non-playable character and he was a member of the British Special Air Service (SAS). The SAS was formed in 1941 during World War II as a commando unit. The original "Call of Duty" was set during WWII and had playable campaign missions for the Soviet, American and the British armies. It is not the only video game that Jason has provided his voice for. In the video game "Red Faction 2" he provided the voice for the character, Shrike.

Jason's 1998 role as Bacon in "Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels" catapulted him into the public eye. His role as Frank Martin in the 2002 film "The Transporter" solidified his action star persona and made him a natural choice to voice Sergeant Waters. More recently he has been seen in the 2010 film "The Expendables" and its 2012 sequel "The Expendables 2" along side numerous other action stars such as Stallone, Willis, and Schwarzenegger.

In "Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2" Keith David provided the voice Sergeant Foley. Sgt Foley is heard during the training mission at the start of "Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2" instructing your character how to shoot. Foley is part of the US Army Rangers and is also part of the squad that retakes the Whitehouse to use signal flares from the roof of the Whitehouse to stop the approaching US aircraft from leveling Washington DC. Keith starred in the 1986 film "Platoon" and the 2000 film "Pitch Black".

"Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2" has its storyline set against the back drop of a Russian invasion of the USA and the events leading up to it.

In "Call of Duty: Black Ops" Robert Picardo provides the voice of Secretary of Defence Robert MacNamara. In the game he introduces Alex Mason (the playable character in the game) to the President of the United States John F. Kennedy. The actor Sam Worthington provides the voice for Alex within "Call of Duty: Black Ops". Robert Picardo also appears in the sequel "Call of Duty: Black Ops 2" as the voice of the character Erik Breighner. Robert starred in the 1987 film "Innerspace" and the TV series "Star Trek: Voyager".

The setting for "Call of Duty: Black Ops" is the historic time period when President Kennedy authorized the reorganization of US special forces within the military and the CIA as a way to counter the guerrilla warfare being waged by communist forces throughout the world. The Vietnam War saw a proliferation of operations by these units and the game features this among other theaters of operation. One interesting anachronism is the use of the Russian Mi-24 Hind helicopter. This helicopter first flew in 1969 and was not introduced for operations until 1972. Therefore the helicopter would not have been available in 1968 as it is in the game.

In "Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare" Craig Fairbrass provided the voice the character Lieutenant "Gaz", who is a member of the SAS. Craig's characters seem to be typecast in the "Call of Duty" series, as when he provides the voice for the character, the character in the game dies. The character Lieutenant Simon "Ghost" Riley is killed by General Shepherd in "Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2". In "Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3" two SAS characters voiced by Craig die in the mission "Mind The Gap", which is set in the city of London. Craig starred in the TV series "London's Burning" and the 1993 film "Cliffhanger".

"Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare" was first installment in the "Call of Duty" series not to be set in World War 2. It is set against the backdrop of a fictional civil war in Russia and a war in a Middle Eastern country in which a nuclear device explodes. The events from this game are starting points for the plots in the following "Call of Duty: Modern Warfare" games.

In "Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3", Kevin McKidd provides the voice for the character Captain John "Soap" MacTavish, who is a member of SAS. Soap's first appearance in the "Call of Duty" series was in "Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare", where he was one of the playable characters. He also featured in "Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2", and is the playable character towards the end of the game. It is this character that finally kills General Shepherd after pulling a knife from his chest. During this scene when aiming the knife, as long as the crosshairs are on General Shepherd, the knife is thrown with the blade hitting Shepherd in the eye. When I played I wanted payback for the death of the character "Ghost" and aimed the knife at the General sensitive parts only to be let down with it hitting him in the head. Kevin starred in the 1996 film "Trainspotting" and the TV series "Grey's Anatomy".

"Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3" is set against the preceding "Call of Duty: Modern Warfare" games and is also where we say goodbye to character "Soap" as he killed in the third installment.

In "Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2" Lance Henriksen provides the voice for the character Lieutenant General "Gold Eagle" Shepherd, who is in charge of Task Force 141 and the US Army Rangers. Towards the end the game in "Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2" it is revealed that he caused the war between Russia and America. He kills the character Ghost and wounds Roach before having them doused in petrol and set ablaze. Lance starred in the 1986 film "Aliens" and the TV series "Millennium".

Joseph Bowman is a non-playable character with a rank of Chief Petty Officer and is featured as an ally of the primary playable character, Alex Mason. He also functions as a multiplayer announcer for the Studies and Observations Group (SOG) faction. Bowman meets his end in the game when he insults a Spetsnaz operative and refuses to participate in a game of Russian Roulette.

In "Call of Duty: Black Ops II" Andrew Divoff provides the voice for the character Lev Kravchenko. Colonel Lev Kravchenko in the preceding "Black Op" game was Dragovich's second-in-command and was thought to be killed. In "Call of Duty: Black Ops II" he re-appears working for Raul Menendez but is killed by either Alex Mason or Frank Woods. During Yuri's flashback sequence in "Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3" Lev also appears. Andrew starred in the 1991 film "Toy Soldiers" and the 1997 film "Air Force One".

In "Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3" Timothy Olyphant provides the voice for the character Sergeant first class "Grinch", who is a Member of the US Delta Force. Grinch and the rest of the Delta Force team die in the mission "Down the Rabbit Hole" In this mission they help to rescue the Russian President, helping to end the hostilities between the USA and Russia.

In "Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2", Billy Murray provides the voice for Captain John Price, a member of the SAS. In "Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2", he is the prisoner released from the gulag and joins up with Task Force 141. Price's character appears in the first three installments of the "Call of Duty: Modern Warfare" games. Price fights with General Shepherd at the end of "Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2" and it is this fight that gives Soap enough time to pull the knife out of his chest and kill Shepherd. In "Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare" Price is the playable character in the mission "All Ghillied Up", which is a flashback mission 15 years before the events in "Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare". The mission is where you have to sneak into the city of Pripyat to assassinate Imran Zakhaev.
