Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Who is introduced by the narrator as "a true-blue American hero," and then clarifies that he's "more kind of like a fleshy-colored American hero"?

Answer: Johnny Turbine

Johnny Turbine is a blonde-and-(one)blue-eyed American who hails from a ranch in Montana. He is entering the race because he is hoping to gain a multi-million-dollar contract to be a big star in the movies.

"Hey, you shot me!"
-Johnny Turbine shot during a race
2. What Canadian racer can be unlocked at Bigfoot Mountain (the first racing level) by shooting a snowman at the cabin at the beginning of the level?

Answer: Andre Latoilette

Andre Latoilette has manipulated wild critters to be his servants, and in return for their service, he uses them for ammunition ("really, not a very good deal for the rodents," the narrator notes). It is unclear why he wishes to race, but his arc consists of searching for a brother. His aircraft is noticeably made of wood.

At the very beginning of Bigfoot Mountain, there will be a cabin directly ahead. There is a snowman out front. If you shoot it, then you will unlock Andre.

"Wood isn't bulletproof!"
-Andre Latoilette shot during a race
3. What Romanian-made character was created by a small village to bring back their tourist industry?

Answer: Baron von Slaughter

Baron von Slaughter is notable for having a lens with crosshairs for an eye, his mechanical arm, and his constantly detaching limbs.

"Who are you? I would like to kill you!"
-Baron von Slaughter to narrator
4. What busty pilot is introduced as having shot down 1,012 aircraft and a man in a jetpack (because, according to her, "he looked very suspicious")?

Answer: Traci Torpedoes

Traci Torpedoes is a lady that was raised from a young age to be a fighter pilot for the German air force. She is racing specifically for the pride of the German air force, "und [she] will have no one and nothing stop [her]!" At first, she comically snaps about being a normal person, and not a genetic mutant freak; later on in her story arc, it is discovered that she is, in fact, a genetic mutant freak.

"It's true! I AM genetic mutant freak!"
-Traci Torpedoes on finding out her origins
5. What country is Cactus Rose from?

Answer: Mexico

Cactus Rose is a bandit that robs from the rich to give to the poor (or so she says). She is racing for recognition, hoping to be "north, south, east, west, all over the place... all over [the narrator's] face if you give [her] trouble." Her aircraft is notable for being a flying motorcycle.

"You got a wallet? . . . No you don't. You got nada."
-Cactus Rose robbing Johnny Turbine
6. What character has two heads and one body?

Answer: Marcel Moreso Brothers

The Marcel Moreso Brothers (named after Marcel Marceau, a professional mime) are conjoined brothers and mimes from France. They're in the race to look for their long-lost mother. When they fly, the chubby brother holds rockets in his hands while the skinny one acts as pilot.

They are also seen as a love interest of Myrna Bookbottom and Margaret Basher, who are one person and an alter ego.

*various sound effects*
-Marcel Moreso Brothers shot in a race
7. What character works as a librarian and enters the race in order to experience adventure, apart from her library duties?

Answer: Myrna Bookbottom

Myrna Bookbottom is a meek, polite librarian from England who wants to enter the race because she's "always wanted a life of adventure." One thing that's given her a sense of adventure is her alter ego, Margaret Basher.

"Well, you see I've always wanted a life of adventure, but I work in the local library and things just never seem to happen here... until Margaret Basher came along."
-Myrna Bookbottom in introductory interview
8. Margaret Basher, the alternate personality of Myrna Bookbottom, can be unlocked by shooting what?

Answer: A crate with the British flag painted on it

Margaret can be unlocked in Thugsville (the third race level) by flying under the bridge at the harbor and shooting a crate with the British flag painted on it. Her story arc is exactly the same as Myrna's.

"Helpless, eh? *begins shooting all around her*"
-Margaret Basher in introductory review
9. Who is the Swiss inventor and head of the largest cuckoo clock industry in the world?

Answer: Professor Gutentaag

Professor Gutentaag and Sven 209 race together, with Gutentaag rafing on top of Sven. His motivation in winning the race isn't directly stated, but it can be inferred that he is racing to show his genius off. One interesting thing to note about Professor Gutentaag is that in his national-reporting segments, it is Sven 209 that is the focus, not the professor himself.

Gutentaag comes from the German phrase "Guten tag," which means "good day" in German. The other choices are from the other official languages of Switzerland (French, Italian and Romansch).

"Oh, se-poopy!"
-Professor Gutentaag flustered
10. What American legendary crime boss and "sanitation engineer" is racing to make his mother proud?

Answer: Pauli Atchi

Pauli Atchi isn't actually a sanitation engineer; he and his mother run a crime syndicate in Chicago. At the final battle, it is discovered that he sees his mother as a rival for the crime syndicate.

"Just between you and me, I don't know nothin' about sanitation engineering."
-Pauli Atchi
11. Who rides a magic carpet in the race?

Answer: Sheik Abdul

Sheik Abdul is a "zillionaire" oil tycoon whose company is run entirely by his harem. He is usually depicted as naive and excitable. He is constantly accompanied by his camel Humpy, and is constantly berated by his harem.

"Impudent three-legged dog!"
-Sheik Abdul to his harem (under his breath)
12. What is the name of the Japanese genius that built his own airplane and robot lover?

Answer: Sammy Wasabi

Sammy Wasabi had built his first aircraft when he was just a baby, and builds aircraft so complicated that only he can fly. He enters his masterpiece, the Kamikaze Express, into the race. His arc mainly portrays him as a prankster.

"Time for big party!"
-Sammy Wasabi at character-selection screen and upon winning the story
13. What type of business does the Australian pilot Mick Bungadoo run?

Answer: A roadkill restaurant

"You run 'em down, we throw 'em on the barbie!" is his logo. He runs a roadkill restaurant and hopes to popularize it by competing in the race.

"The secret's in the sauce. *winks*"
-Mick Bungadoo at introductory interview
14. What do you need to shoot to unlock Island Jack?

Answer: An anaconda

Island Jack is seen as a laid-back type of person who is literally thrown into the race by his fellow islanders. Hos only goal is to make it home. While flying the Danger Island course (the fifth racing level), you will come across a branch with an anaconda on it. Shoot it, and Island Jack will be yours.

"Violence is never the answer!"
-Island Jack shot during a race
15. Who is the boss at the end of each story, that eventually becomes a playable character?

Answer: Pilot X

Pilot X appears at the end of each story (and, in some cases, during the story) to challenge the winners to a duel in outer space. Some are reluctant to fight (such as the Marcel Moreso Brothers) while others readily jump in (such as Traci Torpedoes and Sheik Abdul). At the end of the battle, Pilot X proclaims that he'll be back before being hit by a meteor.

In the final game-ending cutscene, it is revealed that he hid in the celebratory cake to claim his revenge, but everyone leaves to race again before he can exact vengeance.

"I challenge you to a battle in outer space!"
-Pilot X to freaky flyers's race winner
