Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. The "Mass Effect" universe was filled with lots of non-human sentient species. What race was Garrus Vakarian, Shepard's squad member in all three games?

Answer: Turian

Garrus was the only turian in the squad all three games. Some species were represented by different characters throughout the trilogy, and some species were never represented. Shepard's only salarian squad mate was Mordin in "Mass Effect 2", and there were no elcor or hanar squad mates in the whole trilogy.
2. One of two downloadable content packs (DLC packs) for the first game was "Pinnacle Station", which featured a space station where elite soldiers of all races could train and compete. What was the name of the man in charge of the station?

Answer: Ahern

"Pinnacle Station" was the only DLC to not be created by Bioware. It was made by Demiurge, the studio responsible for porting the original game to the PC ("Mass Effect" was originally only available on the Xbox 360).

Ahern was a human, and a veteran of the First Contact War with the turians. Vidinos was the turian head of security on the station, and the top-scorer for most of the challenges. He had a problem with humans, and by extension, Shepard.
3. Only featured in a DLC pack for "Mass Effect 3", what was the name given to the original species that the Reapers were modelled from?

Answer: Leviathans

Leviathans were an aquatic species, and looked very much like the classic Reapers, but were smaller. They could also compel other species to do their bidding.

The Protheans were the dominant species in the previous extinction cycle. They were transformed into the worker race, the Collectors, by the Reapers. The Remnants were the automated defences of a lost civilization in "Mass Effect: Andromeda".
4. The Reapers were known for slowly infecting and manipulating the minds of sentient beings that spent too much time close to them, turning them into tools. What was this process called?

Answer: Indoctrination

The Reapers indoctrinated lesser beings near them, forcing them to submit to their will. The Leviathans, which the Reapers were modelled after, had a similar technique called enthrallment. The ancient organism called the Thorian from "Mass Effect" had a similar ability, also called enthrallment.

The rachni were an extinct race that would communicate telepathically with a method they called singing.
5. What was the name of the man who co-founded the Blue Suns mercenary group, and was a DLC squad member for "Mass Effect 2"?

Answer: Zaeed Masani

Zaeed Masani and Vido Santiago founded the Blue suns mercenary group. Vido betrayed Zaeed, left him for dead, and become the sole leader. Zaeed survived the encounter (lost an eye), and became a bounty hunter. He was recruited in "Mass Effect 2" to help Shepard, and his Loyalty Mission involved confronting Vido.

Kasumi Goto was the other DLC squad member for "Mass Effect 2", and Javik was the only DLC squad member for "Mass Effect 3".
6. What was the name of the Cerberus program that was established to learn how to control the geth, featured in a "Mass Effect 2" DLC of the same name?

Answer: Overlord

The "Overlord" DLC was pitched as a throwback to the mission style of the previous game. While it did not impact the main story greatly, there was a lot of content in the DLC, and it was interesting and fun.

"Kasumi: Stolen Memory" was the DLC that added Kasmui Goto as a squad member. "From Ashes" was the first DLC for "Mass Effect 3", which added Javik as a squad member. "Citadel" was the final DLC for "Mass Effect 3" (and the whole trilogy), and was a love letter from Bioware to the fans.
7. In "Mass Effect 2", Shepard worked with a quarian captain while rescuing Tali on Haestrom. That quarian would have a DLC shotgun named after him in "Mass Effect 3". What was his name?

Answer: Reegar

Kal Reegar was a soldier in Tali's team on Haestrom when she was recruited in "Mass Effect 2". If he survived, he showed up again during Tali's loyalty mission to vouch for her during the trial.

In "Mass Effect 3", a DLC weapon was the Reegar Carbine, which was listed as a shotgun. It actually spewed forth a cone of highly damaging electricity (like an electric flamethrower), but that didn't stop the quarians from calling it a shotgun.
8. What was the name of the final DLC pack released for "Mass Effect 2", in which Shepard slowed down the Reapers by being the first person to ever destroy a mass relay?

Answer: Arrival

The Reapers were hiding out in dark space, beyond the galaxy, and would use the Citadel relay to come back in every 50 000 years to wipe out all space-faring life. In Shepard's cycle, they were blocked from the Citadel, so they started coming in the slow way.

At the end of "Mass Effect 2", they were approaching the Viper nebula, which had a mass relay. Once there, they would easily spread throughout the galaxy. This was the "Arrival" that Shepard had to stop in order to buy the galaxy more time. To slow them down, the mass relay in the system was destroyed by ramming an asteroid into it, which took the entire system with it. 300 000 batarians died.

"Bring Down the Sky" was the first DLC created for the first game. It also featured batarians and an asteroid, but that time it was the batarians who were propelling it at a human colony, and Shepard had to stop them. "Zaeed: The Price of Revenge" was the DLC that added Zaeed as a squad member in "Mass Effect 2". "Omega" was a "Mass Effect 3" DLC in which Shepard helped Aria T'Loak take back Omega station from Cerberus.
9. What was the name of the first and most powerful Reaper, who also frequently controlled Collector soldiers in "Mass Effect 2"?

Answer: Harbinger

In "Mass Effect 2", Harbinger was controlling the Collector general, and by extension, all Collectors. He was known for "assuming control" during fights to take control of a single Collector on the field, making them much stronger than the others.

Harbinger was also the Reaper at the "Mass Effect 3" finale, guarding the transport beam to the Citadel.

Sovereign was the name of the only Reaper in "Mass Effect", and was the final boss. Banshees and Marauders were both Reaper foot soldier types in "Mass Effect 3".
10. Use the first letter of the correct answers to the previous nine questions to spell out the name of a character from the "Mass Effect" trilogy.

Answer: Talizorah

Tali'Zorah nar Rayya was a fan favourite character. She was a squad member in all three games, and represented the entire quarian species on her own in the first game. She (along with Garrus) was added as a romance option in the second game after the strong fan response in the first.

Throughout the trilogy, Tali had an interesting story arc, and was a useful squad member. She was a tech expert, being able to hack enemies and deploy drones to cause a distraction while she wielded a shotgun.
