To reach it in the Observatory, you'll need to power up the apparatus and climb to the roof of the room. You can also access a Save Point in this room.

To use it, charge your Wave Beam and press the Y button to unleash a Missile. The technique will use ten Missiles when it's activated, and five more Missiles for every second it's used after that. The Wavebuster is a lot like the beams used on "Ghostbusters".

Using this weapon, you'll be able to melt walls of ice to reach expansions and Energy Tanks.

The Ice Spreader can be found under the bridge in the Shore Tunnel near the Monitor Station of the Magmoor Caverns. You'll pass it throughout the game, but you won't be able to reach it until you have the Power Bomb to destroy most of the bridge. Both the Ice Spreader and the Flamethrower use ten Missiles, but the Flamethrower will act like the Wavebuster and continue for five Missiles per second afterwords.
