There are five levels in "Bart vs. the Space Mutants". Bart must collect a certain number of white tokens in the first four stages in order to earn an assist from another member of the family. The character's name is shown in the lower left corner of the screen and each token represents one letter of his/her name. To get a token Bart must defeat space mutants who have disguised themselves as humans. Bart can take a gamble and randomly jump on someone's head, however if Bart guesses wrong, he will lose health. Bart can use x-ray glasses which are available throughout the game to determine which humans are fake.

The first stage of "Bart vs. the Space Mutants" places Bart on a public street in Springfield. The space mutants are looking for all objects that are colored purple to build their ultimate weapon. Therefore, Bart needs to hide or change the color of 24 items in the stage that are purple. Most objects can be changed by spray-painting them, but some need other items to change the color or get rid of it. Bart will not be able to fight the boss until he collects enough goal items.

Answer: Krusty the Clown

Collecting icons featuring Krusty the Clown will grant Bart an extra life. There are also icons featuring the head of Jebediah Springfield but they grant Bart temporary invincibility when collected. Bart can also collect coins which he can use to buy items required to complete each level.

If you collect six white tokens in level one, then the baby Maggie Simpson will help Bart when he encounters the stage's boss, which is the school bully Nelson Muntz. Having Maggie available will make the fight much easier as she will roll a bowling ball towards Bart, which he can bounce back at Nelson. If Maggie is not available, you will have to try and deflect the water balloons Nelson tosses at you back at him.

Answer: hats

Level two of "Bart vs. the Space Mutants" takes place inside a shopping mall. In this stage, Bart needs to collect 25 hats in order to progress to the main boss fight. The hats will sometimes be floating in a certain spot on the screen. Others need to be knocked off people's heads. Do not touch any of the shoes in this level as they are some of the stage's main enemies.

There are four floors in the mall and each floor has a sub-boss (an alien that looks like Principal Skinner) guarding it.

Answer: The Babysitter Bandit

Lucille Botzcowski (aka Miss Botz, The Babysitter Bandit) is the boss of level two. She will attack Bart by attempting to drop suitcases on him from a ledge. Once they reach the ground, Bart can jump on the suitcases to send them flying back at her. If you collect five white tokens in this level, then Marge Simpson will help Bart by knocking away a few of the suitcases that Miss Botz drops.

Answer: Sideshow Bob

Sideshow Bob is Bart's arch nemesis in the television series. Sideshow Bob was once a former partner of Krusty the Clown who attempted to frame him for burglary. In order to reach the boss fight in this stage, Bart needs to collect forty balloons. Bart can also play various carnival games here, where he can win extra lives. If Bart collects four white tokens in this stage then his sister Lisa will assist him when fighting Sideshow Bob. Lisa will drop bowling balls onto Bob's head which will allow Bart to stomp on his big feet.

Answer: in a museum

The fourth level of "Bart vs. the Space Mutants" takes place at the Springfield Museum of Natural History. In order to reach the boss in this stage, Bart needs to collect only six "Exit" signs. However, there are a lot of platforming obstacles in this stage.

There are also three sub-bosses in each section of the museum. A Venus flytrap guards the jungle section, a mummy guards the Egyptian section and a large T-Rex guards the dinosaur section.

Answer: Dr. Marvin Monroe

Dr. Marvin Monroe was a psychologist who attempted to help the Simpsons overcome their family issues by using shock therapy. Here he serves as the boss of the museum level of "Bart vs. the Space Mutants". He will attack Bart by trying to shock him with an energy ball. To defeat him Bart must stomp on his head three times. If you collect five white tokens in the museum level then Homer will assist Bart here by throwing towels on the floor which block the energy balls.

Answer: Maggie's pacifier

The fifth and final stage of "Bart vs. the Space Mutants" takes place at the Springfield Nuclear Power Plant. In order to complete this stage, Bart must collect sixteen nuclear rods (which are scattered around the plant) and place them into a chamber in the basement.

There are no white tokens in this stage, as the entire Simpson family is already here to assist Bart. It is important that you remember where Maggie is located in this stage as her pacifier is revealed to be the last nuclear control rod that Bart needs to complete the stage and defeat the space mutants once and for all.
