What game was this?

Answer: Perfect Dark

The game put the player into the perspective of Joanna Dark, the best agent in the history of the fictional Carrington Institute. The game took the player all over the world as they battled the evil Datadyne Corporation. In similar fashion as "Goldeneye", "Perfect Dark" was a hit among gamers and critics alike. "Perfect Dark" went on to win the Interactive Entertainment Moving Images Award of 2000 from BAFTA, as well as the best interactive product of 2001 in the Golden Satellite Awards.
2. One of the most popular games on the PC, was this game by Electronic Arts. In it, the player was made to build a household, comprising of one or more characters, cleverly named "Sims". What game was this?

Answer: The Sims

"The Sims", released on February 4, 2000, put the player into an important role, similar to a god. The player had to take care of virtual people called "Sims", by buying them food, furniture, rooms, and other commodities for their homes. The sheer replayability made the game one of the best-selling PC games of all time.
3. This game, developed by Blizzard North took the form of an action-role playing game. The box-art for the game was a memorable one: the name of the game was surrounded by flames and the picture of a skull was behind it. A bonus level featuring cows also seemed to be a trademark of the game. What was the game?

Answer: Diablo II

"Diablo II" was released in 2000, for the PC. It featured five character classes, including a Barbarian, a Paladin, a Sorceress, a Necromancer, and an Amazon Warrior. It's length, coupled with its easy to use battle system earned the game a place in the Guinness Book of World Records, in the year 2000, for being the fastest selling PC game ever. The record had since been broken.
4. In 2000, the team at Nintendo decided to make a final iteration of their famous "Zelda" series on their 64-bit system. This time around, Link was forced to battle his way through the land of Termina and stop a forest child, wearing a strange mask, from wreaking havoc on the world. Link also fought against a time limit, as the moon was slowly crashing towards Earth. What game was this?

Answer: The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask

The game, seen as a direct follow-up to 1998's "The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time", featured some of the sharpest graphics to grace the Nintendo 64, as well as one of the most emotional atmospheres seen in a game. Apart from the main quest, which the player was forced to solve in a span of 3 game days, the player was given the chance to perform several side-missions.

When all tasks were accomplished a special item would be unlocked. Because of its depth, most critics, notably "IGN.com" and "Metacritic", gave the game near perfect scores.
5. In the year 2000, a magical game was released for the arcades, Playstation 2, and the ill-fated Sega Dreamcast. The main premise in the game was to pick-up people who needed rides and get them to their pre-determined destinations within a certain time limit. What game was this?

Answer: Crazy Taxi

The game, had a large interactive city, where people everywhere needed rides to their destinations. Supposedly coupled as an advertising simulator, "Crazy Taxi", threw in some ads and references to many famous franchises including Pizza Hut, Kentucky Fried Chicken, and Levi's.

The game itself could be played for hours without a clear end, but some replayability may have existed in the fact that there were two large cities, three characters to play as, and a challenging stunt mode. When the Dreamcast failed, and the sales of the game dwindled on the Playstation 2, the franchise was relocated to the Microsoft X-Box, where two further sequels were released to relatively negative praise.
6. It would be an understatement to say that this squirrel had a very bad night. He drank a little bit excessively and lost track of his actions. Because of that, he had to travel through an expansive land, battling teddy bears in several colorful locations, including a whacky tribute to the D-Day scene from "Saving Private Ryan". In what game was this?

Answer: Conker's Bad Fur Day

Conker the Squirrel was a character, first seen in "Diddy Kong Racing", for the Nintendo 64. "Conker's Bad Fur Day" was released for that very system in the year 2001. Developed by Rareware, makers of such other games as "Perfect Dark", and "Goldeneye 007", the game was originally intended to be targeted to younger audiences, with more emphasis on adventure, than emphasis on jokes about flatulation.

The game was turned into more of a mature game, due to the fact that the developers feared that the game would be criticized for being too much like other games, of the genre.

The choice was a wise one, as the game now boasts an excessively large fan following, as well as the 2001 BAFTA Award for best sound.
7. One of the first hits on the Playstation 2, was this third-person shooter released by Capcom in 2001. The game's gothic environments and its hero, Dante, turned more than a few heads. What game was this?

Answer: Devil May Cry

"Devil May Cry", put the player into the perspective of a half-demon, demon-hunter, named Dante. It sent the useer into strange locales, including a castle dungeon, and a crypt. The game was originally intended to be the next "Resident Evil" game in the series, however the developers felt that it deviated too much from the others, so they made a separate game instead.

The game proved to be a hot-seller, rivalling the "Resident Evil" game that was released almost simultaneously, with "Devil May Cry".

It quickly reached 'Greatest Hits' status, and also spawned two equally successful sequels.
8. The pinnacle of gaming freedom came in this package, released in 2001, for the PC and PS2. The premise of the game was to follow a set story while having the freedom to go anywhere, do anything, and steal anything with an engine, at will. The main character was a nameless, voiceless character that was originally supposed to represent the player. It's success prompted its development company to release other classics, such as "Vice City", and "San Andreas", each more massive than the last. What game was this?

Answer: Grand Theft Auto III

"Grand Theft Auto III", was released in 2001, and developed by Rockstar North. The game was well-received, achieveing high reviews from such reputable sources as: IGN, Gamespot, Official US Playstation Magazine, and Gamespy. It was the best-selling game, on the Playstation 2, in 2001, and the second best in 2002. Due to the sheer freedom to do whatever a player wanted, a lot of controversy surrounded the game, and its development company. People believed that the game influenced crime, and that young-children were the target of a mass project to turn them into criminals. Surprisingly, very few of the lawsuits were ever turned into victories for the opposition, against Rockstar.
9. Arguably one of the greatest first person shooters ever released for a game console was this game by Bungie Studios. It put the player into the perspective of a superhuman soldier named Master Chief, and sent them on a quest to destroy an alien race known as the Covenant. What game was this?

Answer: Halo

"Halo" was released in 2001 for the Microsoft X-Box. It put the player into an aesthetically pleasing war-zone, in the first-person perspective. Allowing the player to use vehicles, and a large array of weapons, all while listening to the audio in the Microsoft's Dolby Digital capabilities, turned many heads in the home gaming community.

The game also had a well praised multiplayer mode which included such modes as Deathmatch, Capture the Flag, and Co-op mode. "Halo" won three major gaming awards, including an award in 2000, for Best Action Game, a 2002 award for best sound, and an award for best console game in the 5th Annual Interactive Achievement Awards, in 2001.
10. This game by Volition Ltd. broke the ceiling. It's not a figure of speech as the game literally allowed the player to destroy the environment at their own will using the technologically advanced Geo Mod engine. What game was this?

Answer: Red Faction

"Red Faction" took place on Mars and put the player into the perspective of a miner, named Parker, who happened to be around when a guard killed one of his fellow miners. Upon witnessing that, the entire facility went into revolt, and a battle between the miners and the guards began.

The story is beautifully executed, the enemies are intelligent, and most notably, the "Geo-Mod Technology" is the highlight of the game. The "Red Faction" series was the only game series that ever allowed players to literally tunnel through a level using explosives. With that edition, more strategy needed to be implemented into gameplay, and thus, critics like "IGN.com", and "Official Playstation Magazine" gave the game near perfect scores.
