Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. This 2006 game for the X-Box 360 put the player into the perspective of a photojournalist sent into a shopping mall infested by legions of the undead. Not to be mistaken as a "Resident Evil" clone, this game created new boundaries for what a zombie survival game could be. What game was this?

Answer: Dead Rising

Although "Dead Rising" may have seemed like a "Resident Evil" wannabe from the get-go, it set itself far apart. First of all, weapons were plentiful. A player could use anything as a a weapon be it an umbrella, a car, a baseball bat, or even a soccer ball. Several endings, as well as unlockables achieved by taking photos added almost infinite re-playability to the gaming experience.

The game would also never be the same experience twice. As a result of it's unique gameplay, "Dead Rising" received generally positive reviews from multiple gaming sources including IGN and Gamespot.
2. This game released for the Playstation 2 was developed by Rockstar Vancouver. The game took place at a boarding school in England. The player controlled a boy named Jimmy and their job was to explore the school, go to classes, defend bullied students or be the bully. The game was presented in an almost "Grand Theft Auto" fashion. What game was this?

Answer: Bully

"Bully" was a third-person action adventure game similar to "Grand Theft Auto" in many ways. First of all, there was an open environment to explore and interact with, as well as a set grouping of missions for the player to accomplish. Like the aforementioned game, "Bully" also received its fair share of controversy. Due to Rockstar North's accidental inclusion of the gratuitous "Hot Coffee Mod" in "Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas", politicians feared that a similar "accident" would occur in this game.

In the end, no such problem was discovered and the game actually received positive reviews from all reputable sources. Among it's accolades were a 2006 award as best Playstation 2 action game and an award for containing the best original music of 2006.
3. This massive role playing game put the player into a first person perspective. Serving as an impressive sequel to "Morrowind", this game broke the conventional realms of the role playing game. Amazing graphics, countless quests, hidden secrets, and rag-doll physics made this game one to be reckoned with in the gaming world. What was the name of this amazing game?

Answer: Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion

"The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion" was originally released on March 20, 2006. The game was developed by Bethesda Softworks, a game company responsible for the "Elder Scrolls" games, the original "Burnout" game and several drag racing games.

What made "Oblivion" different from the other RPG's on the market was the attention to detail that the developers put into the game. Graphically, it pushed the limits of the PC, Playstation 3 and Xbox 360. Water looked realistic, forests looked lush, and the skies looked like real skies. The first-person mode also created more of an immersive experience because the player could think of themselves as that character, not just a third-person controller. The players could either explore the gigantic land, or they could team up with all sorts of characters and go on epic quests, each one more rewarding than the last. The game was incredibly well-received by the gaming world earning game of the year honors from G4, Spike TV, Gamespy, Gamespot, IGN and PC Gamer.
4. Despite this Square-Enix series being around since 1989, the series never really changed its style. New characters like Cloud, Yuna and even the Light Warriors have been introduced over the years, but it wasn't until this sequel's release that the entire turn-based combat system was turned into a classic RPG battle system, similar to that of "Neverwinter Nights". Despite this game being a sequel, it was definitely not the final one in the series. What game was this?

Answer: Final Fantasy XII

Apart from merely a change of battle system, several other additions were made to "Final Fantasy XII", in order to polish the gaming experience. First of all, the player could rotate the game's camera 360 degrees in order to see everything around them. Secondly, characters seemed to have more of a connection to their land. Previous games featured characters walking around aimlessly, really robotically, but this game featured characters going into buildings and realistically interacting with the game's environment.

The game's changes were not seen as negative moves by critics, however, as many critics gave the game a perfect score such as Gamepro, Official Playstation Magazine, X-Play, and Eurogamer Magazine.
5. With the Xbox 360 in direct competition with Nintendo and Sony for home console dominance, Microsoft was entrusted this killer game, which made the system worth buying. Taking place on a planet called Sera, this over-the-shoulder shooter showed gamers just how far the Xbox 360's graphics engine could go. The game also highlighted amazing artificial intelligence, and had incredibly graphic chainsaw kills where blood splattered on the screen. What was the name of this unforgettable game?

Answer: Gears of War

"Gears of War" was created by Epic Games, a smaller game developer best known for creating the "Unreal" games. "Gears of War" was an attempt by Epic Games to enter the next generation of action games, with something other than "Unreal". What they created was a graphically superior game with an intricate environment that made the gaming experience more complete. Emphasis was placed on taking cover behind objects as enemies were everywhere and they had their own little tricks at their disposal. "Gears of War" was greatly hyped before its release, so it had a lot of expectations to fulfill. Fortunately, most game critics have agreed that it more than fulfilled its promises when they granted the game titles like "Xbox 360 Game of the Year", "Overall Game of the Year", "Best Action Game", "Game of the Year", and many more. Among these critics were G4-Tech TV, IGN, Spike TV, and Official Xbox Magazine.
6. How many gamers have ever wished that they could be the star guitarist in the band, getting the star treatment and earning millions of dollars? This game, lets the rocker in everyone live out their dream, except for the millions of dollars part. Using a unique controller shaped as a guitar, the player of this game could go about ripping the string to some of their favorite songs from the 1970s, 1980s, 1990s, and 2000s. What game was this?

Answer: Guitar Hero II

"Guitar Hero II" served as the sequel to 2005's hit Playstation 2 game, "Guitar Hero". The sequel was made available on the Xbox 360 and PS2, allowing Xbox Live to be integrated into the gameplay experience. New songs could be downloaded and scores could be shared worldwide.

The unique, however smooth gameplay elements eventually led to some of the world's most prestigious reviewers giving the game great scores like 9.25/10 by Game Informer or 10/10 by Official Playstation Magazine.
7. The makers of this game decided that instead of releasing one big sequel, they'd split the one sequel into three different parts. This first part, put the main character, Gordon Freeman, back into City 17 to try and save the human population from the Combine. Superb graphics, insane physics and an immersive storyline make this sequel one to be reckoned with. What game was this?

Answer: Half Life 2: Episode One

"Half Life 2: Episode One" was to represent the first part in a series of sequels to "Half Life 2". The goal behind the move to episodic sequels was to remove the long waits between a game and its sequel. Unfortunately, the episodic content also had massive delays, particularly with "Episode Two", which ended up with several delays. "Episode One" improved the graphics of "Half Life 2", made the physics more realistic and introduced more cramped environments to fight the hordes of headcrab zombies. PC Gamer magazine gave the game an 8.5/10, praising the improvements the developers made over "Half Life 2". Generally, the reviews of the game were similar, however, one complaint arose in most of the reviews.

The game was too short. A player could beat the game in less than five hours.

The episodic content split a 20+ hour game into several short five hour parts, which have their ups and downs.
8. This game for the Nintendo Wii and the Gamecube took the player back to the fictional land of Hyrule. The main character's role was to defeat a group of enemies from the Twilight Realm, and eventually close the realm. A new edition to this franchise was an intuitive transformation system, where the player could become a wolf, and on the Wii, motion sensitive controls that react to user actions. It was also the last game ever released for Nintendo's Gamecube. What was the name of this game?

Answer: The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess

"The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess" was the first ever "Zelda" game to be a launch title, thus it had some expectations to meet. Its out of character artistic approach and motion sensitive controls more than satisfied the critics. IGN gave the game a 9.5/10 rating proclaiming it to be "the second best launch game ever [behind "Super Mario 64"]." The following reviewers all gave the game at least 88% in their rating of the game: Game Rankings, Metacritic, 1-Up, Electronic Gaming Monthly, Game Spot, Gamespy, Game Informer, and TV's X-Play.

The game also had the privilege of winning multiple game of the year awards.
9. Call the "Star Wars" games whatever you want, but this version of the game series was just too cute to pass up. Featuring cute little Danish plastics acting out the "Star Wars" trilogy, this "Star Wars" game served as a sequel to 2005's edition which featured episodes 1, 2, and 3. Which slapstick take of the "Star Wars" universe was this?

Answer: Lego Star Wars II: The Original Trilogy

"Lego Star Wars II" was developed by Traveller's Tales, a small game company based in the United Kingdom. "Lego Star Wars II" picked up immediately where the previous one left off. The game started off from the legendary scene in which the Imperial Star Destroyer captured Princess Leia and the Tantive IV.

The game eventually led to the climactic final death star run from "Return of the Jedi". Despite the game's rather cutesy appearance, it should not be overlooked. Solid controls, smooth platforming action, and amusing slapstick comedy make this game worth checking out.

The game sold more than a million copies within a week of its release, emphasizing either that people wanted to play the original "Star Wars" episodes, or they just liked the cuteness and the solid gameplay.
10. The Playstation 3 was finally released on November 11, 2006 in North America. Compared to everyone's expectations, the system was a let-down. There was only one fantastic release title on the system, and it happened to be this. This first-person shooter took place in the 1950s, where aliens have taken over Great Britain. It was up to the player and their resistance forces to drive them out of Britain. What game was this?

Answer: Resistance: Fall of Man

"Resistance: Fall of Man" represented the lone PS3 launch title that reviewers praised. It was acknowledged for its intense action, its superb graphics and its relatively open environments. "Resistance" also became the first Playstation 3 game to hit the million mark in sales. IGN gave the game these following titles: PlayStation 3 Game of the Year (2006), Best First-Person Shooter on PlayStation 3 (2006), Best Graphics Technology on PlayStation 3 (2006), Best Original Score on PlayStation 3 (2006), Best Use of Sound on PlayStation 3 (2006), Best Online Multiplayer on PlayStation 3 (2006), Most Innovative Design on PlayStation 3 (2006).

The game also hit some controversy on the ninth of June 2007, when the Church of England was made aware of the use of Manchester Cathedral as a stage in the game. Apparently, no permission was given to use the church as a level, so the church threatened legal action if nothing was done about it.

After a formal apology was given, roughly a week later, the sales of the game ironically sky-rocketed.
