Shigeru Miyamoto was born in 1952 in Sonobe near Kyoto in Japan. He graduated from an industrial arts college and hoped to pursue a career as a manga artist. He took a job at Nintendo, creating art for the arcade game "Sheriff". This earned him the position of designing a new arcade game called "Donkey Kong" in 1981. He wanted to use Popeye as Donkey Kong's sidekick but was unable to obtain a licence to use Popeye, so he drew Mario from scratch. Miyamoto's success with the "Mario Bros." and "Legend of Zelda" franchises, and his influence in the creation of "Pokemon Red", "Pokemon Blue", and "Metroid Prime" led him to become the Acting President of Nintendo when President Satoru Iwata died in 2015. So this particular Goomba appears in the original Super Mario Bros., specifically the very first Goomba the player encounters in World 1-1. The Goomba were the very last enemies created, due to play testers thinking the Koopers were too challenging for a first time player. In the original story of "Super Mario Bros." given in the manual, Goomba were residents of the Mushroom Kingdom and joined forces with Bowser after he invaded their home and kidnapped the Princess. Before the invasion they were on friendly terms with the Toads.

Unlike the regular Mushroom, which allows Mario to grow in size, the Poison Mushroom could shrink him back down or, with no power-ups, cause him to lose a life. Poison Mushrooms don't reappear in the the series again until "Super Mario Advance 4: Super Mario Bros. 3", a GBA remake of "Super Mario Bros. 3".

The Sand Kingdom is situated in a vast desert environment, so for the area to be cold and loaded with large blocks of ice throughout is a bit of a weird situation. Many of the easier-to-get Power Moons make use of the environment's existing infrastructure though some can't be attempted at all until the ice is melted, and to do that you need to progress through the main objectives for the stage.

Before even showing up on the NES/Famicom classic "Super Mario Bros.", Mario got his start in the arcades, facing off against Donkey Kong to save Pauline but then taking to the New York City sewer system to fight off all manner of spiky creatures. The concept of the "Mario Bros." game was fairly simple. You would play against an opponent (Luigi) and try to outlast them, firing shell projectiles and hitting POW blocks to alter the stage in the face of Koopas. The game returned as part of "Super Mario Bros. 3" on the NES (and, in turn, "Super Mario All-Stars" on the SNES).

He was originally a human with magical powers, found on a mountain and taken in by an old man he called "Grandpa." The two lived happily together for some time, until an evil duo met them and, knowing about the boy's powers, magically transformed the boy into a parasol. As they took him away, he managed to wiggle himself free, and laid on the ground for days without moving or speaking. Luckily, he still retained his powers, and was able to get the attention of a merchant passing by. The merchant placed him in a shop, and he eventually sold him to Toadsworth, who then gave him to Peach at the start of the game.

If you thought that Bowser could only be beaten by tricking him into butt-stomping through the floor into the abyss, you have never taken your Mario feats one step beyond. It will take four hammers to defeat Bowser. He can also be defeated with Fire Balls, but it will take many more, as they aren't nearly as powerful as hammers (which can even kill Thwomps). Bowser will fall down below the screen, just as if he had been beaten with fire in "Super Mario Bros".

King Bowser Koopa first appeared in "Super Mario Bros." for the NES, and has been Mario's primary nemesis since that title. He has appeared in most of the Mario titles. In all titles since "Super Mario Bros. 3", he has been portrayed as having red hair. According to Nintendo, this red hair had always been present in the concept of Bowser as a character, but due to the technical limitations of the day Nintendo was not able to give him hair in the original "Super Mario Bros." Also, while Miyamoto developed the original NES title, he developed a dinosaur companion for Mario, who ultimately became Yoshi, but could not implement him a Mario title until the Super Nintendo's "Super Mario World".
