This is right after Christine takes off the Phantom's mask in the scene mentioned in the previous question. This is the Phantom's song "Stranger Than You Dreamt It", which is one of my favorites. At this point the Phantom shares his inmost feelings, wants and dreams with Christine. It makes him become human and makes us see the pain he must really experience. He is singing of the pain and insecurity he has faced throughout life and reveals how he's always just wanted the same things as others have.

Lefevre (the previous owner of the Opera Populaire) is telling his cast and crew that the rumors of him leaving are true. He then introduces the new owners, Monsieur Richard Firmin and Monsieur Gilles Andre.

The Phantom's real name in the story is Erik.

During the song 'Why So Silent', the Phantom told the managers that he had written an opera. The Phantom wanted the opera to be performed perfectly, so laid out some instructions first. His instruction to the managers was that they both belonged in an office, and not producing operas in his opera house. The Phantom said this to the two managers because they didn't follow his orders as how the opera house was to be run.

Answer: They wanted to get her to change her mind about leaving the Opera Populaire for good.

The Phantom's notes hadn't really frightened Carlotta at all. The first note she received merely annoyed her, by thinking that the Vicomte had the gall to insult her by replacing Carlotta with Christine. The second note didn't frighten her either, as she launched into a tirade directed at the managers, saying that they didn't appreciate her talent (because they wanted Christine to sing instead of her), that they didn't love her, they had rebuked her, etc. In order to appease their diva, so there would be a soprano who could sing on stage (and because Miss Daae was still nowhere in sight), the managers were shown giving Carlotta gift after gift. They were trying to convince her to stay at the opera and that her talent truly was appreciated.

Answer: They are golden, moving arms holding candelabras.

The arms are holding ornate candelabras, and swing back and forth as Christine and the Phantom pass. Later that night, when Meg discovers the passage behind the mirror and goes looking for Christine, the candelabras have been replaced by dusty old wall sconces that have obviously not been lit for quite some time.
The candelabras that emerge from the water are in his lair, not in the passage.

Christine sings this to herself when she wakes up in the Phantom's lair the next morning and wonders who the mysterious man in the mask was.

The beginning of this song is performed and then the camera cuts to Raoul questioning Christine about not wanting to announce their engagement. They of course make up and dance through the rest of the song, until The Phantom shows up.

Andre and Firmin were watching the ballet girls quite intently. Carlotta noticed this and said that she hoped they enjoyed the ballet girls as she wouldn't be singing. The new managers were then instructed to go and grovel for the diva's affections.

Carlotta quit for a second time (in five minutes) after the backdrop fell as she sang "Think of Me".

Passirino's scene was kept intact - he is seen right before "Point of No Return" as Don Juan's helper. Mme Firmin doesn't exist in the movie (or, if she does, we never see her). Don Attilio is played by Piangi (a tenor) during "Il Muto", a bass played the part in the musical and Piangi was offstage watching. (He runs onstage to help escort Carlotta off after she croaks - you can see him still in his street clothes.) And the Inkeeper's Wife doesn't exist right before "Point of No Return" - the only people are Carlotta and the chorus, there is no solo part.

The Phantom is known to lasso a noose around his victims, and as long as you keep your hand at the level of your eyes, you can save your self from being strangled because he would not only lasso your neck but your hand, and you could get free. Madame Giry tries to warn those she fears might be in danger of the Phantom's lasso even though she has a weakness in her heart for him.

Christine sings this to Raoul on the roof ("Why Have You Brought Me Here/Raoul I've Been There") in the scene before they sing "All I Ask of You". Raoul is trying to convince her that there is no Phantom but she has proof - she's seen him. She explains the emotions in the Phantom's eyes. In his eyes she saw sadness and a pleading. But now she sees that the eyes are also full of threat and adoration. This is shortly after the Phantom commits his first murder and Christine is feeling so many things about who her angel of music is.

Christine sings "Angel of Music", Raoul sings "All I Ask of You" and the Phantom sings "Point of No Return". This song was brilliantly composed by Andrew Lloyd Webber. They don't actually sing the words from the songs, but different words to the tunes. The choice is up to Christine...who will she choose to spend the rest of her life with. If she chooses the Phantom, Raoul might die. He she doesn't choose the Phantom Raoul will die.

Gerard sang this wonderfully in the movie! In the original 1925 film version of "The Phantom of the Opera", Lon Chaney played Erik, and Erik had a VERY hideous face!

'Prima Donna' was the song that Andre and Firmin sang to Carlotta to persuade her to perform. They began to give her gifts to tempt her. Some gifts she accepted, but most of the them were rejected. However a gold necklace and a black dog won her over.

Answer: She croaked like a toad.

The Phantom had switched Carlotta's atomizer bottle. When he caused a disturbance, Carlotta used that time to spray her throat with the bottle provided by the Phantom. However, when she began singing again, she had lost her voice and could only emit a croaking noise akin to a toad. (Carlotta had called Christine a toad only moments earlier.)

Answer: Swings are being lowered for the ballerinas, some of whom are trying to lead sheep onto the stage.

Despite the Phantom's warnings, Carlotta is given the lead in the production of 'Il Muto', and the Phantom's box is not left empty. Due to his disruptions (including the switching of Carlotta's throat spray) a change of lead is announced, and the ballet is offered to amuse the audience while Christine changes. Ever fascinated by the Phantom, Buquet pursues him through the catwalks, until the Phantom turns the pursuit around and Buquet begins fleeing. Buquet's murder is interspersed with scenes of the unprepared ballerinas trying to make the dance work, with the audience laughing in amusement, until Buqet's body is hung in front of them.

During his speech to the silent crowd, after the 'Masquerade' number, the Phantom notices the diamond ring hanging by a chain around Christine's neck. He utters this line and pulls the chain off of her, keeping the ring as he disappears through one of his trap doors in a swirl of smoke.

Christine's curiosity gets the better of her when she spots the Phantom, who is busy playing the piano. While he plays, she walks up behind him and caresses his face. He closes his eyes in contentment and smiles. When he least expects it, Christine tears off his mask, revealing his deformed face to her. In his anger, the Phantom rounds on her furiously and sings/shouts these hurtful words. Christine, who is in shock, silently hands him back his mask which calms him down at last and eventually he forgives her for betraying his trust.

After the cast finishes the song and Piangi gets down off of the elephant, the stage is cleared for the next scene. When the elephant is turned and taken off the stage, this is when the backside of the elephant is revealed. In the musical, there are also stagehands drinking inside.

Raoul's horse, as he races to the graveyard, is white. This is most likely to reinforce that Raoul is good and the Phantom is bad.

After the backdrop falls on Carlotta as she sings "Think of Me", she gets very angry and demands for someone to bring her her doggie.

During "Masquerade" Andre and Firmin say something about how things have been peaceful for 3 months, and the "ghost" has been unheard of for that time. He finishes "Don Juan Triumphant", his masterpiece of an Opera score, in this time.
