The chullo is a woollen hat worn by people in the Andes. It often has ear flaps which can be tied together and provide extra warmth. A fedora is normally worn by men and has a soft brim and a crown which is indented, while a galero is a hat with a wide brim worn by Catholic clergymen. A Glengarry, named from the region in Scotland where it originated, is often referred to as a bonnet or cap and is part of traditional Scottish dress, worn by soldiers or on formal occasions.
The karakul, or qaraqul, is made from the wool or fur of the sheep of the same name, native to Central Asia. The keffiyeh (other spellings are common) is a traditional Arab headdress worn in the Middle East while the kepi is a type of cap worn by soldiers in the French army. The montera is a hat from Spain and other parts of the Iberian peninsula. Originally part of traditional folk dress, it is more often now used for the headgear worn by bullfighters.
The patka is a head covering worn by Sikh men, a smaller version of the turban. It still keeps the uncut hair, kesh - one of the tradition ks of the Sikh religion, tidy and covered but is more manageable for younger males and during sports, for example. The Phrygian cap is a soft woollen head covering which is especially linked to the French revolution.
The shako is another military hat, with the name originating in Hungary, while a sou'wester is a waterproof cap worn by fishermen and sailors for protection from the elements. A tuque is a knitted cap while the ushanka is a fur hat from Russia. Like the chullo, it has ear flaps which can be folded down for extra protection or tied together on top of the hat/ The zucchetto is a type of skull cap worn by clergyman in the Catholic and Anglican churches as well as others. The colour denotes the seniority of the wearer.
The wrong answers can all be worn although few of us will qualify for a Lonsdale belt as this is awarded to British boxing champions. The pashmina and sarape are both shawls and the muleta is a cape, used in bullfighting. A muff is used to keep your hands warm and uwabaki are Japanese slippers. Bluchers are a type of shoe, mainly worn by men, while chopines are also shoes, with platform soles, worn by women as overshoes to keep their better shoes clean. Buskin is a type of laced boot reaching the calf or knee and worn by soldiers and actors in Ancient Rome and Ancient Greece.
