Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Which of the following is NOT a Jewish biblical character?

Answer: Allah

Abraham was the father of Judaism.

Joseph was Abraham's great-grandson, who was forced into slavery by his brothers and was famous for his multi-colored coat.

Moses, with God's help, led the Jews out of slavery in Egypt and into the Promised Land (aka Israel).

Allah, however, is the Muslim God, and has no connection with Judaism whatsoever.
2. Which of these birthdays is NOT celebrated by a holiday in the Jewish religion and/or the country of Israel?

Answer: God's birthday

In the Jewish religion, the birthday of the world is called Rosh Hashannah, and is usually celebrated during September.

The birthday of Israel is called Yom Ha'atzmaut, and is always celebrated in Israel during the spring, although some Jewish sects do not celebrate this holiday.

Jews even celebrate the birthday for trees, which is called Tu B'shevat.

However, among all of the Jewish holidays, God's birthday is not celebrated.
3. Which is the only Jewish holiday that is celebrated every week?

Answer: Shabbat

Shabbat is the Jewish Day of Rest, and is celebrated every week from Friday night to Saturday night.

Hannukah is a winter holiday for those living in the northern hemisphere, and Purim and Shavuot are both spring holidays in the northern hemisphere. All three are celebrated only once a year.
4. Which holiday is Queen Esther involved in?

Answer: Purim

In the story of Purim, Queen Esther is chosen to be Queen of Persia. Once queen, Esther must put her life at stake in order to save the lives of the Jewish people.
5. On which holiday do Jews use a haggadah?

Answer: Passover

A haggadah contains the story of Passover and is always read at the seder before everyone eats.

The Megillah is read on Purim, not the Haggadah.
6. What are the names of Adam and Eve's first two children?

Answer: Cain and Abel

Cain and Abel were Adam and Eve's children, who happened to be twins. Cain killed Abel out of jealousy and made God upset.

Jacob and Esau were also twins, but were the sons of Isaac and Rebecca.

Rachel and Leah were sisters, not twins, and were Jacob and Esau's cousins.

Joseph and Benjamin were two of Jacob's twelve sons.
7. Which of these biblical characters married Rachel and Leah?

Answer: Jacob

Jacob was tricked by his uncle into marrying Leah instead of Rachel, after working for seven years. When he agreed to work for an additional seven years, he was able to marry Rachel as well, thus having them both as wives.
8. Which of the following is synonymous with God?

Answer: Adonai

Adonai means God.

Baruch means "blessed" in Hebrew, eretz means "land", and l'dor vador means "from generation to generation".
9. How many commandments are there in total in the Jewish religion?

Answer: 613

Although only ten were given to Moses at Mount Sinai, God gave all 613 to the Jewish people.

Eighteen is considered the Jewish lucky number, since when spelled out using Hebrew letters, it spells "chai". Chai in Hebrew means "to life".

316 is just a number similar to 613.
10. Which two holidays are collectively known as the High Holidays?

Answer: Rosh Hashannah and Yom Kippur

Rosh Hashannah and Yom Kippur are both usually celebrated during September/October and are collectively referred to as the High Holidays. Rosh Hashannah is the birthday of the world, and Yom Kippur is the Day of Atonement.
