Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Jane Eyre

Answer: Edward Rochester

From 'Jane Eyre' by Charlotte Bronte. After a brief separation, Jane comes back to Thornfield to find Mr. Rochester blind. She loves him still despite that and they get married. Their marriage was a happy one, and two years into it, one of Mr. Rochester's eyes regains its sight.
2. D'Artagnan

Answer: Constance Bonacieux

From 'The Three Musketeers' by Alexandre Dumas. The lovers didn't have a happy ending. Constance was poisoned by Milady, d'Artagnan's worst enemy, as a way of revenge.
3. Arthur Hastings

Answer: Dulcie Duveen

From 'The Murder on the Links' by Agatha Christie. Dulcie's twin sister Bella is convicted of the murder but Hastings convinces Hercule Poirot she's not guilty, which she wasn't. Dulcie is so grateful for it, she marries Hastings.
4. Dorian Gray

Answer: Sibyl Vane

From 'The Picture of Dorian Gray' by Oscar Wilde. Sibyl Vane was an actress, and a marvelous one. Dorian Gray falls in love with her, and vice versa. Having a lover of her own makes Sibyl a horrible actress in 'Romeo and Juliet'. She was unable to be Juliet properly, unable to pretend to love Romeo. Dorian breaks up with her because she acted terribly in front of his friends Lord Henry and Basil Hallward. Sadly, Sibyl committed suicide the next day.
5. Lieutenant Henry

Answer: Catherine Barkley

From 'A Farewell to Arms' by Ernest Hemingway. Lieutenant Henry falls in love with a hospital nurse, Catherine Barkley, after he gets wounded in battle. They dreamt of getting married but that never happened. Catherine was pregnant with their illegitimate child and died in childbirth.
6. Constantine Levin

Answer: Kitty Scherbatsky

From 'Anna Karenina' by Leo Tolstoy. Count Vronsky and Constantine Levin both courted Kitty. Levin loved Kitty, but Vronsky did not. Kitty first loved Vronsky, but when she found out that he loved Anna Karenina, not her, Kitty's love turned to Levin. They had a happy marriage and a healthy son.
7. Sophia Leonides

Answer: Charles Hayward

From 'Crooked House' by Agatha Christie. Sophia Leonides's grandfather was murdered by her little sister, Josephine Leonides. Charles Hayward, her fiance, cleared up the mystery and they got married soon afterwards.
8. Edmond Dantes

Answer: Mercedes Mondego

From 'The Count of Monte Cristo' by Alexandre Dumas. On the eve of their wedding, Mercedes' jealous friend, Fernand, spread lies about Edmond and therefore caused him to be taken prisoner. Fernand then convinced Mercedes to marry him. 14 years later, Edmond escaped from prison but he and Mercedes never felt love for each other again.
9. John Watson

Answer: Mary Morstan

From 'The Sign of the Four' by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. Mary Morstan, a beautiful young woman of 27, came to 221b Baker Street to talk to Sherlock Holmes about the inheritance she was supposed to get but never got. Watson is deeply enthralled by her, and curses the treasure supposed to come to her.

The reason for this is because if he asked for her hand in marriage, it would look like he was simply trying to get his hands on the money. The thief, Jonathan Small, had thrown the treasure in the river so that nobody could get it. Watson and Mary get engaged then.
10. Tom Sawyer

Answer: Becky Thatcher

From 'The Adventures of Tom Sawyer' by Mark Twain. Becky Thatcher is new to Tom Sawyer's school, and Tom instantly feels love for her. He was so determined to prove his love for her that when Becky accidentally ripped the teacher's book, Tom took the blame for it. Sometime afterwards, the two get trapped in a cave for days with nothing to eat.

When they're rescued, their lives go on like normal, flirting with each other at school and such.
