Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. "Prologue"- An article from the newspaper was dated December 15, 2005. In which parking lot was the strangled body of 26 year old Cathie Robinson found?

Answer: Wal-Mart

In this novel, the serial killer's MO was to strangle women and leave them to be found in a populated parking area, like Wal-Mart. He felt that he was causing them to experience humiliation in death as he'd experienced in his daily life. The article called him the Driveway Killer, as he'd snatch these ladies from their own driveways at home. Katie Johnson was believed to be the first local victim, her body found in a McStop parking lot. And then came Martha Lundquist, who was found in a Target parking lot. Cathie was believed to be the killer's third local victim, and authorities thought he'd also struck in Iowa, Missouri and Arkansas.

It was Cathie who came to Betsy and led her and Laura to the killer.
2. "Prologue"- A birth announcement in the "Star Tribune" alerted the world that Betsy's little brother had arrived. What is her baby brother's name?

Answer: Jonathon

Jonathon Peter Taylor II came into the world at 12:05 a.m. on December 15th, and the birth announcement came out two days later. Betsy's step-"monster", Antonia, called him Jonathon Peter Taylor II, but Betsy's father was not named Jonathon, just John Peter. Antonia always seemed to be showing her slivers of instability!
3. Who went with Betsy to view her tombstone in Chapter One?

Answer: Jessica and Laura

It was a very cold day, eight months after Betsy's "death". Jessica had been very curious to see the grave marker, which read "Elizabeth Anne Taylor, April 25, 1974 - April 25, 2004, Our sweetheart, Only resting". Laura found it weird, but thought the little phrase was nice. Jessica finished the viewing off by setting down a bouquet of calla lilies.
4. On Betsy's first visit to see her new brother, was she able to get him to stop crying?

Answer: Yes

Antonia explained that the doctor said Jon had colic, and he hadn't stopped crying for hours. When Betsy picked him up, he stopped immediately. Though hesitant at first, Antonia was relieved by Betsy's ability to hush the baby. So, in true Betsy fashion, she left as soon as she realized she could stop little Jon's cries.

Her affect on little Jon was to change Antonia's reaction to Betsy in this fourth novel.
5. How did the "Book of the Dead" find its way back to Betsy's home?

Answer: UPS delivery man

Near the end of book three, "Undead and Unforgivable", Betsy sent the book to the bottom of the Mississippi River. She became temporarily insane while reading it, and felt it was not safe to have around the house. It was returned to her, via United Parcel Service, along with another package. Upon seeing it back in her home, Betsy became very agitated.

The huge book (two feet long, a foot wide, six inches thick, and bound in human skin) was placed back in the library, against Betsy's wishes. The book was magically bound to Betsy and Eric Sinclair, so there was no chance they'd ever really rid themselves of it.
6. In Chapter Ten, Betsy ridicules those forensic 'lady cop versus the serial killer' types of movies. Betsy claims she 'almost gave up on Angelina Jolie' after watching a movie that fit that bill. Which movie was it?

Answer: Taking Lives

"Taking Lives" is the only movie listed that starred Angelina Jolie. She and Ethan Hawke are the lady cop and serial killer respectively. Though it does not exist in the time frame of these first four "Undead" books, 'Blade IV' has been mentioned a few times as a movie Betsy bought on dvd. She, of course, claimed it was simply for research purposes only.
7. Betsy's best-friend, Jessica Watkins, finally gets asked out on a date! Who was it that asked Jessica to attend a Matthew Barney exhibit with him?

Answer: Nick Berry

Betsy used her super-vamp hearing to try to secure the details of the proposed date. They did get too far away from Betsy for her to hear all of the details, but Sinclair was able to continue to eavesdrop as they walked further off. Matthew Barney is an interesting artist. His work, "Cremaster Cycle", premiered at the Museum Ludwig, in Germany in 2002.
8. Cathie Robinson, lately a ghost and Driveway Killer victim, warned Betsy that her sister Laura was up to no good. What was it that Laura was doing in the basement of Betsy's house?

Answer: attacking George

As the daughter of the devil, Laura Goodman could easily lose her temper. It did not help matters that she could brandish weapons from hellfire at will. When Betsy found her attacking poor George, Laura's hair had turned a blazing red. Betsy stepped in front of Laura and took her hellfire sword right in the chest. But, just like when Monique staked her, Betsy was not harmed by the weapon. Betsy came to the conclusion that Laura had lost control of her anger because of her irritation at her birth mother, Antonia.
9. Who killed the Driveway Killer?

Answer: Laura

The ghostly Cathie Robinson led the women to the home of the serial killer. They broke into his home and found Mrs. Scoman tied up, but alive, in his basement. For some reason the killer was obsessed with a girl named Carrie, and he called all the women that name before he strangled them.

He gave them a weird little speech about a woman's anatomy, and then Laura picked up a piece of wood and brained the guy. Betsy used her brain washy powers on Mrs. Scoman and made her believe she'd gotten away on her own. Cathie the ghost decided she'd been short-changed by the early death, and so she planned to stay with Betsy and the gang for awhile.
10. Jon Delk, the leader of the Blade Warriors from book three, came back to visit Betsy in book four. He decided to write a story about her, but later had his mind erased and the story destroyed. Jon was able to make a hard copy of the story before all of this happened. What was the title of Jon's story?

Answer: Undead and Unwed

In the tradition of Ann Rice, Mary Janice Davidson brought her real work of fiction into the fictional world itself. Anne did it with "Interview with the Vampire", about Louis and Lestat.
Betsy and her cohorts will return in book five, "Undead and Unpopular", which will be available in June 2006.
