Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In true Mary Janice fashion, Betsy and Eric's wedding invitation was included before the book's prologue. What date and time had been set aside for their nuptials?

Answer: July 4, 2007 at Midnight

Here is the exact invitation:
"You are cordially invited to the wedding of Elizabeth Anne Taylor and Sinclair; 607 Summit Avenue; Midnight; July 4, 2007; RSVP By June 25, and don't be one of those jerks who doesn't RSVP and then shows up with three people. Seriously."

August 28th is my own anniversary date.
2. In the opening prologue, a story was recalled of a terribly vain and wicked queen and her favorite piece of jewelry. Which one describes the queen's favorite jewels?

Answer: coalfire earrings

The term coalfire was used as one word in the book, so I made all the choices one word combined with fire. The tale included the fact that over one thousand men died mining the queen's stones. The queen made it clear that she would curse anyone who tried to take her beloved stones, so no one even tried to get them until she'd died. Four men took part in the theft of the earrings after her death, and the first three died very quickly after their pillage. Despite the deaths and the mysterious fate of the fourth thief, the earrings made their way to London. On the way, they caused many calamities. These included "a pig plague, a tomato blight, a series of foals born with five legs, multiple drownings several miles from from any natural water source, and a viciously quick mammal that no one ever saw clearly enough to describe well". Maybe the "mammal" was a werewolf or a vampire?

The earrings spent a long time in the British Museum, where they caused more problems. The new curator finally rid the museum of the earrings by giving them to Lady Diana, the Princess of Wales. Finally coming into the possession of a very old vampire, the earrings' stones were divided into 25 different pieces and set around the world. One of those pieces came to reside in Minnesota around the turn of the 21st century, and of course, became Betsy's ring...
3. As stated in the first chapter, where were Eric and Betsy planning to honeymoon?

Answer: New York City, NY

Betsy was looking forward to two weeks in the city, a place she'd never visited. Right after this was revealed, Betsy dropped a little "I won't be taking your name, it's nothing personal" bomb on Eric. She claimed it was how she was raised, and Eric quickly pointed out that her mother had taken her father's name and she'd even kept it after their divorce.
4. Were Betsy's dad and stepmother killed in "Undead and Uneasy"?

Answer: Yes

Due to circumstance, or perhaps fate, Betsy had to attend their funeral alone. The deaths of John and Antonia Taylor were described as Betsy's dad "plowing into the back of a parked garbage truck", but there was more to it, of course. Jessica would have most certainly attended to lend moral support, but she was undergoing chemotherapy treatments in the hospital.
5. Throughout the novel, was Tina stranded in South America?

Answer: No

Tina was in Europe, and couldn't seem to return to aid Betsy in any way. She had gone there on Sinclair's behalf, to make sure that the European faction of vamps were behaving themselves.
6. How did Betsy find out that her brother, BabyJon, was now her son?

Answer: from her mother

Apparently, the day before the funeral there had been a reading of the will, but Betsy hadn't attended. She found out from her mother, when Dr. Taylor brought the baby home to Betsy after the funeral.
7. As continuing with the book's theme, Marc was missing for most of the book as well. When Betsy finally got him on the phone, what was he doing?

Answer: enjoying a vacation in the Cayman Islands

Specifically, Dr. Marc Spangler was at the Pirate's Cove Resort in Little Cayman. I cannot mention here what ALL he told Betsy he was doing, but I can sum it up to say he was enjoying a "romantic getaway" with the new pediatrics fellow Dr. Ketterling! According to Marc, David Ketterling's grandma owned the Pirate's Cove Resort. Betsy was tempted to draw him back home with her tales of woe, but in the end she was selfless.
8. In chapter thirty-four, Betsy finally decides to consult the "Book of the Dead". Who showed up just as she sat down to read?

Answer: Satan

Yep, Laura's mom was back again with more evil advice. Betsy had accused her sister of taking off with Sinclair a few chapters earlier, and a nasty throwdown ensued. So, Laura was not speaking to Betsy any longer. Satan had tried to tempt Betsy over to her side several times in the last few books of the series. Described by Betsy as looking like Lena Olin (she actually addressed her as such in this chapter), Satan played on all of Betsy's insecurities while offering her help. Betsy, as per usual, fell for none of it- but she really wanted to.
9. Who was the mysterious abductor of Sinclair, Antonia and Garrett?

Answer: Marjorie, the 800 year old vamp librarian

Miss snooty, ancient record keeping Marjorie had kidnapped people close to Betsy in an attempt to control her! AS if! Marjorie told Betsy she was a fluke to be the vampire queen, and since Eric couldn't control her, Marjorie would hold him over Betsy's head. If Betsy was to refuse to tow the line, Ole Marj would kill Eric Sinclair! She sold Sinclair the cursed engagement ring for $250,000, and used the "cursed" info to trick him into coming to see her.

Not anticipating Garrett and Antonia, the ancient librarian held them captive as well.

The vampire women commenced in an epic fight to the death, with Betsy finally draining the powerful Marjorie psychically. She never had to touch her to take away everything Marjorie was, and the experience healed Betsy completely.
10. Betsy used Marjorie's essence and power to cure Jessica of her life threatening illness.

Answer: True

After she sucked Marjorie dry, very literally, Betsy needed to pour some of that power back out of herself. She started with Eric, then Antonia, and finally Garrett. She saved all three of them, even causing Antonia to transform into a werewolf for the first time! Since Betsy had so much more she needed to release, she had the gang transport her to Jessica at the hospital. Once there, she was laid across her best friend, and the power flowing off of her cured Jessica. In the end, the queen married her king and they were last known to be off consummating their marriage while their guests partied below.

I simply cannot wait to see what happens next...
