Betsy Taylor- Queen of the Damned? Quiz

As you may remember, our reluctant queen Betsy originally took a suicide approach to her new afterlife. She tried several methods to re-kill herself after being smashed by a truck (an AZTEC of all things) on the night of her 30th birthday. She recalled her death rather vividly, as well as what her life had been like before she died (cute not pretty, a model briefly, an ex-secretary at Hamton & Sons, a shoe hound/connoisseur and, not exactly lastly, a victim outside of Kahn's Mongolian BBQ- all you can eat for 11.95).

She finally snapped out of the suicide mission as she inadvertently saved a woman and her young daughter. It was this little girl, Justine, who'd informed her that she was a vampire. She took that news home with her to discover her step-monster had raided her prolific shoe collection. Enraged, she immediately went to Antonia's home to retrieve them! Antonia and Betsy's father were the first of her people to discover that Betsy was not quite as dead as they'd last left her, with Jessica being second to make the discovery.

Answer: Nostro

Nostromo, Noseo, Nostril, Nosehair, and Notso (when referenced in book two) were all Betsy names for almost the oldest vampire known. His real name was something average, and Betsy felt the whole "Nostromo" thing was a huge overcompensation for his sub-par appearance and height.

When the final fight came down, Betsy showed her smarts when she turned the Fiends onto her side. She let them feed from her and then sent them to kill old Noseo! In a particularly true case of poetic justice, the damaged vamplings tore him to pieces.

He'd been the one to have them turned and then starved, resulting in a horrifying case of frenzied psychosis and animal-like appearance. Nostro liked to conduct experiments, not unlike a vampiric version of Adolf Hitler.

Answer: Marie

Betsy, showing her brain dead side, did not make the connection of Marie's true existence right away. Though the child only appeared to her, wore the same outfit daily, and could disappear in an instant, Betsy did not realize that it was a ghost child. Marie had been killed when she was five years old and then buried in the front yard.

Her mother, Sarah, had been turned by Nostro who had killed Marie in the process. Marie had waited for over fifty years for her mom to come back to the house to get her. Sarah could see Marie right away and asked that Betsy stake her and allow her to cross over.

As soon as the stake was in, Marie told the gang she was off to see her mom! At the end of the book, Betsy revealed she could see an older man gardener type that no one else could... so he was her second ghost.

Answer: Tina and Eric

Tina had sired Eric in the early 1900s, and the two had been inseparable every since. They were not lovers, but best friends who enjoyed a very comfortable existence outside of Nostro's circle of influence. Having possession of THE book, they both knew beforehand that their Queen was imminent and that most likely Eric would be her King for a thousand years.

In book two, Betsy was further irritated to discover that they'd known (and not told) she would 'noe' all the dead. And, Betsy would also be able to make people see what she wanted them to see (have her will be done). No one could see young Marie until Betsy demanded that they do so, and then both Eric and Tina could see the young ghost. Tired of the unknown dance she'd been doing, Betsy demanded to read the entire book and become fully informed. Alas, that was impossible because reading the evil book for too long rendered the reader insane! It wasn't long before our heroine found out that fact first hand!

Answer: could see the future

To Betsy, Alice was an adorable young teenager. She looked about fourteen and was tiny. Nostro liked to conduct weird experiments, like that at which created the Fiends. So, he may have changed Alice so young to see if it made her any different from any other vamps. Alice took her job as keeper very seriously, though Betsy told her to come and go at her leisure. Sadly, Alice died when the Fiends got loose and tore her apart in book seven "Undead and Unworthy".

It's the blonde Alice from the "Twilight" series that can see the future.

Answer: Monique

Monique was the rich and secret founder of the Blade Warriors, led by Father Markus in book two. She'd thought Betsy would be a worthy adversary and that help would be needed to take her down. Monique coveted Eric, and wanted to kill off Betsy and then comfort Eric in his grief. Instead, Betsy turned out to be a rather clueless nemesis until the very end, when she realized that her Macy's boss, Mr. Mason, and Monique had been in cahoots to kill her off. The duo squared off at Monique's dance club, Scratch, and Betsy got a stake through the heart for her efforts to wisecrack her way out of the situation. Marc pulled the wood from her body, as Eric tried to will Betsy back to life. As soon as the wood was out, the Queen was back and Monique had a chest full of kindling! Betsy then inherited all of Monique's worldly possession, like Scratch and her sweet little Porsche!

Dennis was beheaded by Tina in book one, Antonia was killed in a car accident in book six and Nostro met his maker (or Fiends as the case was) in book one.

Answer: Laura was the spawn of Satan

From the third installment, "Undead and Unappreciated"- Laura was the spawn of the honest to goodness Devil! Though not technically "evil", Betsy would have to keep her eyes on this potential threat. Upon hearing the news from first her father and then from Antonia, Betsy decided it was time to read that bad old "Book of the Dead" herself- from cover to cover! Three hours into the study session, Betsy had acquired a raging headache and a tendency toward evil.

She abused her best friend and then drank from her! Jessica hid out from Betsy for a long time after the evilness wore off, so Betsy spent that time getting to know Laura.

She even took her new lil sis to the Ant's baby shower. A sure sign of being evil, the Ant took to Laura like butter to toast as she continued to abhor Betsy's presence.

Into every Vampire Queen's life a little rain must fall.. first an angelic little sister who lost her temper with a rather satanic flair, and then an impromptu pregnancy from her step-monster Antonia. The Ant couldn't outdo Betsy's extremely dramatic return from the dead, so she got pregnant instead! Betsy had even been invited to the baby shower, but she wasn't actually allowed to attend.

Her father came to her home to make sure she knew not to come at all. Betsy got over inability to stay awake during daylight hours just in time to bring her sister Laura along to the shower anyway.

It was during his visit that the gang discovered the truth about the Ant's first baby. Since her father didn't give them enough info, they went to Antonia and interrogated her themselves. Antonia had carried Laura during a fugue state, or so it seemed.

Instead it was the Devil herself (looking like Lena Olin) housed inside the stuck-up snot for ten months. The only upside to BabyJon early on had been this news, but Betsy ended up falling in love with her baby brother over a short period of time. And, in the end, she had to raise him in the aftermath of the car accident that had claimed her dad and step-monster in book six, "Undead and Uneasy". Antonia returned as the world's most annoying ghost in "Undead and Unworthy".

She needed Betsy to fix the mess she'd caused, but the horrid witch wouldn't TELL Betsy what it was she had to fix!

Answer: He arrested Betsy, Marc and Tina for murder

Nick, like many men before and after her death, fell into Betsy's thrall. Being a newborn vampire Betsy did not know, or want to initially, all the rules that came with her powers. In a moment of weakness she fed off of poor Detective Nick and caused him to became a desperate slob needy for her in a severe way.

He was in very bad shape, getting close to dying, when Tina and Betsy allowed him to use them both and saved his life. Eric stepped in afterward and mojoed him into forgetting. It was in book three that Nick figured out that Betsy was a vampire, though he didn't reveal that until book six, "Undead and Uneasy".

At the same time, he threatened Betsy with death if she did not turn Jessica to save her life. Bets informed him that Jessica had declined that offer and wouldn't be forced. Nick and Jessica ended their romance at the end of book seven, when Jessica realized his intense hatred for Betsy was not going to pass.

Answer: Walmart

The serial killer had struck in Iowa, Missouri and Arkansas as well as Betsy's home state of Minnesota. Cathie popped up in Betsy's life, and had Betsy and Laura help her find the killer. When they got to his house, Laura knew it was the correct one because to her it appeared all black.

They went in because they knew he'd kidnapped another woman and didn't want her to meet the same fate as the others he'd taken. He came home while the women were in the basement and Laura killed him without provocation.

She picked up a chunk of wood and brained the man, leaving the vampire gang nervous about Laura's destiny beginning to show signs of coming to light. To make it worse, Laura decided to skip her well maintained ritual of Mass to come visit Betsy the next day, and Cathie decided she was going to hang around since her human life had been cut unfairly short!

Answer: Undead and Uneasy

Yep! It was two books after meeting her that Marjorie's diabolical betrayal came to light! I made up all the other choices. Upon their second meeting (Betsy did not recall their first one) Betsy noted that Marjorie was a beautiful 800 year old vampire that appeared as a fifty-ish year old woman would. Betsy also noted that there was something about the ancient vampire's eyes that gave her pause. With her dark hair streaked with gray I always have pictured her as Susan Lucci's Erica Kane from "All My Children".

She was the one who gave Eric the engagement ring for Betsy that contained one piece of a cursed set of coalfire stones. After Betsy received the ring, things started to go wrong. For one thing, Jessica developed blood cancer and for another, Betsy's dad and step-monster were killed in a car accident.

Then Marjorie, evil rat fink that she was, stole Eric, Antonia, Garrett while Marc was away, Tina was overseas, and Jessica was in the hospital. This left Betsy all alone to take of BabyJon and face the Wyndham wolf pack who hadn't heard from Antonia.

She almost killed Eric, but Betsy got there in time to inhale Her Evilness and then used her new energy to suck the cancer out of Jessica. So, all was not lost in yet another evil overthrow attempt for power.

Answer: Garrett

Alice kept watch over the fiends, but noticed that "George" was the only who showed signs of some real potential. He was smart and snuck out of the fiend enclosure several times before being relocated to the basement of Summit Ave. He wasn't there too long before Laura found him and showed her heritage by offering him a brutal beating.

He did not fight back. While in the basement, he'd begun feeding regularly off of Betsy and his intelligence really short forward. After Laura's beatings, she was commanded to feed him from herself so he could heal. Well, after that little stint he began to talk! His first words were in reference to crochet yarn and he said "red please".

It was in the story contained in "Dead and Loving It" that fans discovered his real name was Garrett and he formed a romantic attachment to the werewolf Antonia. Garrett decided to help out his fellow Fiends without telling anyone.

He fed them off of his own blood and they woke up! Well, they became normal vamps and wanted vengeance for Betsy not saving them as she had Garrett.

At the end of the seventh book, Garrett's girlfriend, Antonia the wolf, was killed when she step in front of bullets for Betsy. Her brain was destroyed. Garrett committed suicide immediately afterward and was buried in their new little cemetery. Betsy decided that she, Eric and BabyJon would take Antonia's body back to the Cape and inform Michael Wyndham about her heroic death.

Answer: Undead and Unwed

John Delk, young, impressionable and gorgeous, had teamed up with a priest in book two to form the Blade Warriors. Unfortunately, their entire mission statement had been severely marred when it was revealed that they'd been financially backed by a scandalous sneak named Monique! A vamp herself, Monique had formulated this convoluted plan to have the teens kill Betsy, leaving Eric open to some "grief counseling". Upon learning the error of their ways, the killers disbanded and Jon fell into Betsy's thrall.

When he heard of her impending marriage in book four, he rushed to her side to "save" her from a life with Eric. She'd told Jon, in no uncertain terms, that she and Eric would be married. So, Jon instead leeched into her life via this thesis he needed to write for his college Biography course.

It would be the true biography of a fake fictional character. Did that confuse you too? When Tina discovered he'd written the entire first part of Betsy's vampire life in a novel entitled "Undead and Unwed", she erased it from his PDA.

Then, Eric mojoed him into happy land (think Nick Berry) to assure Jon would let it go. Come to find out a bit later, Jon had thought ahead and submitted the book to a publisher.. or did he? Irregardless of who did the deed, "Undead and Unwed" was looming for fall release in book five. Betsy decided that Jon had to be told the truth, and he did not take it well.

Answer: his dad

Marc's dad was dying as well, and had a really nice set-up in an extremely private hospice. The hospice was actually a private home run by a nurse. Betsy's mom pursued help from her in finding a new place, and Marc stepped in and arranged for the mean spirited old man to go live where his own dad did.

When Betsy visited him to introduce Eric as her husband, the old man was racial insensitive on several levels. The man seemed to come from an old adage of "if it ain't white, it ain't right" and assumed Eric's dark complexion made him an "Indian". Betsy corrected with "native American", though Eric couldn't confirm or deny it.

At the end of book seven she came to him again, beer in hand, and asked him how he'd dealt with killing men in the war.

He was honest, stating that "dead is done" and moving on was your best bet. He added that a good friend had died for a good cause, so missing the man was only slightly painful. I think that comment was a foreshadow to Jessica or Marc's future...

Answer: Myeloma- blood cancer

Jessica revealed her illness in the fifth installment of the series, "Undead and Unpopular". Tina and Sinclair knew before anyone else, as they could smell the change in her body odor. Betsy toyed with the idea to turn Jessica in order to "save" her, but Jessica declined the invitation to be foully murdered. Finally in the next book, Betsy, after a fight to the death with Marjorie the evil librarian, acquired (inherited?) the ability to save Jessica's life.

She went to the hospital and more or less sucked the cancer out of Jess and into herself.
