Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. We finally learned George the fiend's real name. What was his real name?

Answer: Garrett

Garrett was still knitting away in book five. In fact, he was knitting a blue sweater for Betsy's birthday. We also learned that Garrett had a romantic interest. Antonia the werewolf was Garrett's girlfriend. The duo had met two months prior, and those events can be read of in the novella "Dead and Loving It". "Dead and Loving It" brought the Wyndham werewolves into play with Betsy and her vampire family.
2. When Alonzo was telling everyone the story of the time he met Dorothy Dandridge, Marc said that earlier his night had involved a bus crash with DOTS. What did Sinclair reveal that DOTS stood for?

Answer: Dead on the spot

Alonzo was a very old vampire from the European delegation. He and several other Euro vamps had taken their sweet time in coming to America to honor their new king and queen. Dr. Marc Spangler was instantly taken with Alonzo, and in awe of his tale of meeting Dorothy Dandridge in New York City around 1950.
Dandridge was the first African American to ever be nominated for an Oscar for Best Actress for her role in "Carmen Jones". She died in 1965, from an overdose of anti-depressant medication, at the age of 42.
3. Betsy was repeatedly warned about the zombie in her attic.

Answer: True

Betsy never seemed to learn her lesson. She was warned, first by Garrett, about a zombie up in the attic. He was not the only one who warned her, though, Cathie warned her more than once. When Betsy finally decided to enter the attic (for the very first time), she thought she was walking into her surprise 31st birthday party. The zombie terrified her all powerfulness, but she finally got over her flight response and fought it off.
Cathie was the ghost we first met in book four. She was one of the murdered women, who finally led Betsy and Laura to the local serial killer.
4. Why was Sophie visiting Betsy, when she had that horrible reaction to Alonzo?

Answer: to ask permission to sire Liam

In book five, Sophie wanted to sire Liam, so he would never die. Betsy gave them her permission, despite feeling this was also doomed. According to all Sinclair and Tina have offered, the first decade or more of a new vampire's life was a mad blood lust. Betsy had been immune to this, as she was the chosen one.
5. Which of these happened repeatedly in "Undead and Unpopular"?

Answer: the "Ant" dropped off BabyJon

In the book, Betsy called her baby brother BabyJon, written exactly that way. Sinclair called him "the infant", but was corrected by Betsy saying "his name is BabyJon". Betsy's step-mom, Antonia the Ant, seemed to have recovered from both her distaste of her human step-daughter and her newly vamped step-daughter. Antonia's inability to handle her new infant son had cured her of her previous dislikes, as Betsy has the power to stop BabyJon's crying instantly. BabyJon's biological sister, Laura, also handled him very well and happily. Sinclair did not appreciate the baby's interference in his love life.
6. Why did Sophie hate Alonzo so much?

Answer: he murdered her many years prior

Sophie lost her mind when she spotted Alonzo. He'd turned her into a vampire, though his recollection of the event was dim at best. Apparently, this hatred of one's sire is unusual, as the new vampire has a much extended life in the long run. Sophie had not forgiven the monster who'd fed off of her and then left her to turn.

As she explained to Betsy, she would have never needed this new life, if she hadn't been murdered in the first place.
7. What was the name of the small town in which Liam and Sophie lived?

Answer: Embarrass

Sophie, or Dr. Trudeau as she is often called, made a home for herself and Liam in the small town. She was the local veterinarian there.
8. Who killed Alonzo?

Answer: Liam

Though Sophie swore she would kill him, Liam handled it for her. Betsy, Tina and Sinclair found the vampire dead inside his hotel elevator. A short time later, a cellphone rang from inside his pants pocket. It was Liam on the phone, and he explained all of the details so Sophie wouldn't be persecuted. Just before Alonzo's death, Betsy had decided he would make his murder up to Sophie by handing over his entire wealth. Betsy did not feel she should order his death, though she surely could have, and that starting over penniless was punishment enough. Carolina was Alonzo's vampire cousin, and she was not too shook up by his death.
9. Jessica carried a secret in book five; what was it?

Answer: she had cancer

Jessica was treating Betsy badly, more than usual, and Betsy couldn't figure out what was wrong. Sinclair and Tina had already figured out Jessica's secret, based on her smell. Jessica finally revealed she had a form of blood cancer. She had initially thought her symptoms, fatigue and nausea, meant she was pregnant with Detective Nick's baby. Betsy was so sick with worry, she'd pondered the idea of siring Jessica. Jessica told Betsy "no thanks" to that idea.
10. Did Betsy ever get the surprise 31st birthday party she'd been expecting?

Answer: Yes

The gang threw the party the day before her birthday to throw her off the surprise. It was held in the first parlor, and Jessica used a ruse to get Betsy to the room. Among the guests were Betsy's mom, her step-mom, Garrett and Antonia the werewolf, Laura, Nick, and Cathie the ghost. Betsy's dad made no appearances in this book at all.
