Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. How many videos are on the DVD but are not on the 2003 U.S. released "Greatest Hits" album?

Answer: 4

The videos for "Aeroplane", "Can't Stop", "The Zephyr Song" and "Around the World" are featured on the DVD but not on the album.
2. How many songs are on the 2003 U.S. released "Greatest Hits" album but not on the DVD?

Answer: 4

The songs "Breaking The Girl", "Parallel Universe", "Fortune Faded" and "Save the Population" are not featured on the DVD. The Chilis made videos for "Breaking The Girl" and "Fortune Faded" but they never made it to the DVD.
3. Who directed the video for "Give It Away"?

Answer: Stephane Sednaoui

Stephane Sednaoui is a French man, who the Chilis really wanted to direct the video for "Give it Away". The record company said he was fully booked but Anthony rang Stephane himself and he agreed to do it. When he showed up to the shoot he was wearing a dress which Flea thought was really cool! Stephane also directed the video for "Around the World". Gavin Bowden, Flea's brother-in-law, directed "Suck My Kiss" and took video footage of the Chilis during the recording process of "Blood, Sugar, Sex, Magik" which was released as a DVD called "Funky Monks". Mark Romanek directed "Can't Stop" and Dick Rude directed "Universally Speaking" and one of their early videos for "Catholic School Girls Rule".
4. According to John and Val (the directors of multiple "Red Hot Chili Pepper" videos) who was not happy with their part in the video for "Otherside"?

Answer: John Frusciante

John Frusciante felt weird playing one long string for his guitar. Flea was happy to jump around on wires pretending they were his bass strings. Chad was fine with getting into a giant clock sort of thing and banging it as drums as it was moving around him. And all Anthony had to do for this video was stand there and sing, which is different to what he is normally like! (jumping around crazy!)
5. What videos did John and Val direct?

Answer: "Otherside", "By The Way", "Californication" and "The Zephyr Song"

Both the "Otherside" video and the "By The Way" video were based on movies. "The Zephyr Song" video was based on a certain genre of rock. It took John and Val ages to come up with an idea for the "Californication" video. They finally agreed on having an animated video-game-like video of the band running through California trying to meet in Downtown L.A.

It ended up being one of The Chili's most famous videos to date.
6. In the video for "Road Trippin'", which band member said (in the commentary) that he was not happy with his part in it?

Answer: Chad Smith

Chad says he did not like the finished video because he wanted to be in it more! He said they had shot more with him in it but those scenes didn't make it into editing. Even though there are no drums in the song "Road Trippin'" Chad still felt left out.
7. Who played the taxi driver in the "By The Way" video and featured again in the "Universally Speaking" video?

Answer: Doug Wilson

Doug Wilson played the crazy taxi driver who kidnaps Anthony in the "By The Way" video and he appears again in the "Universally Speaking" video going through a festival looking for Anthony to return a book he left in the taxi. The Chilis originally wanted to get Jim Carey to play him in the "By The Way" video and he agreed but then backed out because he didn't like the song! They also asked Toby McGuire if he would play the role of the guy in the "Otherside" video but he backed out too! Rick Rubin is in the "Suck My Kiss" video for a second.

He is The Chilis producer and has been since 1992.
8. Who picked out John Frusciante's outfit for "Under The Bridge"?

Answer: His girlfriend

His girlfriend at the time, Toni Oswald, picked out the outfit for him. A stripy red shirt, brown trousers and a green and blue coloured hat. When on tour for their album "Blood, Sugar, Sex, Magik" John brought Toni along with him which was breaking the band's rule "no girlfriends or spouses on tour". Because of all the tension between John and the band on that tour John decided to quit just before playing a show in Japan.
9. In the extra feature "Meet The Band" on what date did Chad say it was when he was doing the commentary for the DVD?

Answer: August 9th 2003

In this feature you see clips from different videos of each member of the band as they are introducing themselves. When Flea is doing his part he starts singing a tune from the musical "Peter and the Wolf" by Sergei Prokofiev. He says the bit he is humming is the trumpet for when the cat comes in.

The part for the cat is actually the clarinet; the piece he sings isn't even for the cat, it's for Peter, and the instruments for Peter are the string instruments. There are no trumpets played in "Peter and the Wolf".
10. In the "On The Road" footage of the DVD Flea mentions that he prays before he eats. But when is the only time he does it?

Answer: Only if he is by himself

Flea says that he meditates twice a day, prays every morning, every night, before and after every concert he plays and before he eats but only when he's alone!
