Answer: 1866

The club were formed in 1866, but folded in 1881, only to return 3 years later. In 1888, they were renamed as Chesterfield Town, and, in 1919 they changed the club name again, to Chesterfield Municipal, but reverted back to the Chesterfield Football Club a year later.

Answer: Saltergate

The Recreation Ground was located on a road called Saltergate, and it was by this latter name that it was usually called. In 1938, a crowd of 30,561 packed into the stadium to watch an F.A. Cup tie against Tottenham Hotspur. By the time the ground was sold to developers in 2010, the capacity was around the 8,500 mark.
