Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What is significant about the slide-rule we see manufactured at the start?

Answer: It was ordered by one of Werner's men

It is manufactured in Germany. At first, we wonder why its creation is relevant. We later learn one of the late Werner Zielger's workers (Casper the Croatian) ordered it for Werner's widow (instead of attending the funeral; none of the guys did). Poor Casper didn't realise the gift would lead to his own death...
2. Who confronts Howard about his "cocaine problem"?

Answer: Cliff

The Sandpiper class-action lawsuit has been dragging on for two years. Howard from HHM and Erin and Cliff from Davis & Main convene a meeting of plaintiffs. Most of the elderly clients (and their offspring) want this settled - NOW. At the last minute, Howard convinces them all to leave it to him and the other lawyers (which means more money for them!). A great relief.
Until everyone leaves and Cliff asks to speak to Howard privately...
Cliff confronts Howard in the parking lot. He knows all about Howard's cocaine problem!
What?!?!?
The bewildered Howard insists this is all untrue. But Cliff's son was also an addict and Cliff is used to such denials! Then he reveals he was meeting with Kim Wexler when he saw Howard's car and that poor call-girl pushed out onto the middle of the road. Cliff was with KIM? Now things make sense. Howard thanks Cliff for being honest, and quickly leaves.
The furious Howard has figured out Saul and Kim are behind everything. But what if they INTENDED him to figure it out?
3. This episode is so-named because it's set immediately after the "Breaking Bad" season 2 episode "Negro y Azul".

Answer: False

In fact, it's set in 2004, four years before "Negro y Azul" (in English, "Black and Blue"). But in this case, Jimmy takes part in a boxing match with an old enemy and loses (as it turns out - intentionally). Later that night, Jimmy/Saul (now black and blue due to bruises!) admits to Kim he let his opponent win.

He had a guilty conscience. But why? Kim suggests it's because her husband knows "what's coming next".
4. Who does Jimmy fight in this episode?

Answer: Howard

Late one night, Jimmy is summoned to meet a new client - in a boxing ring of all places. The man's name is Mr. H. Ward. Yes, you guessed it, Mr. Ward is none other than Ho - WARD!
Howard tells Saul "You, me, us. I'm tired of this." (He is referring to all the pranks Saul has arranged: bowling balls on his car, tricking people to believe he takes cocaine, etc.) Howard suggests they "punch it out" to resolve their differences.
Howard wins. As Saul lies there, immobile, Howard snaps "You've mistaken my kindness for weakness!" and leaves.
5. Which character from season 3 returns after a year to work for Saul Goodman?

Answer: Francesca Liddy

Francesca worked for Jimmy and Kim in 2002 as a receptionist. The future husband and wife began sharing an office with separate legal practices. "Wexler and McGill". But in 2003, Jimmy lost his license and Kim was nearly killed in a car accident. Since the latter's arm would be in a cast for months, they realised they had to give up their office. They apologized profoundly to Francesca and promised they would re-hire her someday.
Over a year later, Jimmy does. He contacts her at the DMV and asks her to be his new receptionist. Seeing that "Saul" now runs a practice specifically for guilty people, scumbags, psychos, etc, Francesca refuses - until Saul/Jimmy offers to pay her substantially more than before. Francesca finally accepts.
No doubt she regrets that years later when she is questioned by the authorities after the deaths of poor Hank Schrader and Steve Gomez...
6. What's the occupation of the mysterious man Howard meets at night?

Answer: Private Investigator

After Howard has justified this episode's name by beating Jimmy up, he meets a man waiting outside the gym. Genidowski the PI has been watching Jimmy from his car. Howard has hired this PI to follow Jimmy/Saul. To hopefully learn what Jimmy's up to. His plans, schemes, all the "cocaine" fabrications, etc.
But there turns out to be more to Private Eye Genidowski than meets the eye...no pun intended...
7. What gives stressed Gustavo Fring the clue as to why no one can locate Lalo in the USA?

Answer: The Spice "Curls"

Gus's chief adversary (since Hector's stroke) has been Hector's nephew Eduardo, aka "Lalo". Lalo has officially been dead since Gus' hitmen attacked his home in Mexico. But Lalo Salamanca escaped and is pretending to be dead. But Gus knows better - and he cannot help wondering why his intricate network of spies cannot locate the elusive Cartel sociopath.
But one day at Gus's restaurant, he recommends his new "Spice Curls" to a customer (named after the popular "Spice Girls"; this is 2004). At that moment, Gus recalls his German associate Peter Schuler (Peter introduced the spice curls at a recent conference), and then his OTHER German associate the late Werner Zielger. Good detective work, Gus.
Gus knows Werner spoke to Lalo on the phone before Mike found him. Poor Werner inadvertently revealed too much about the secret underground construction. Could Lalo be in Germany, finding out about Werner? If so, he might learn about the unfinished superlab, too.
Oh no! The last thing they need!
8. How is the German lady Margarethe related to the late Werner Zielger?

Answer: His widow

Poor Margarethe was informed her husband had died saving his crew from a cave-in in America. He was working on a new construction project - she never knew the details.
But Werner was actually murdered by Mike for sneaking away to see his wife. Gus's orders. Mike let Werner phone Margarethe at the last minute and order her back to Germany. At least that spared her from being harmed by Gus's other thugs.
It turns out Gus was quite right to suspect Lalo is in Germany; Lalo is taking his uncle's "advice" and searching for proof of Gus's activities. If Lalo can prove to Bolsa and The Cartel that Gus is working against them - goodbye Gus!
Lalo "meets" Margarethe in a bar, lets her confess her grief about Werner (plus the fact none of his men came to the funeral - just sent gifts) and kindly walks her home. He seems such a nice gentleman...
9. Where does Gus pay a late-night unexpected visit to?

Answer: The superlab

Gus is still staying across the road from his house. His armed guards are watching everyone passing by like a hawk. They are wondering if there's any point; there is no sign Lalo is even in the USA.
Late one night, Gus tells his chief of security they are going out. Mike selects a small entourage and escorts Gus to the laundry. For almost a year, Werner and co-worked in secret to build this underground superlab for Gus. But they had to suspend the work while Lalo was nosing around.
Once Gus has the unfinished hole to himself, he conceals a pistol in a steam-shovel. Just in case Lalo ever does find his way in here.
10. Who does Lalo murder at the end of this episode?

Answer: No one

One has to admit: this Salamanca is cleverer than the others. More resourceful, more intelligent, more adaptable (he would have made a good private detective), but just as vicious. Playing detective in Europe, he locates Werner's widow and lures her into his confidence.
After escorting Margarethe home that night, he waits across the road for daybreak. Once the unsuspecting widow leaves for work, he sneaks inside. Ignoring Margarethe's tiny barking dog, he goes upstairs to search this place.
Margarethe told Lalo last night lawyers took away all the paperwork about the project that killed her husband. But Lalo is determined to find SOME clue; Hector is right. But there is nothing relating to Albuquerque.
However, he spots an encased slide rule with: "With love...your boys." imprinted on it. Could this be one of the gifts Margarethe referred to last night? Sent by someone else secretly working for Gus? But suddenly, Margarethe comes home (she forgot her cellphone).
She wonders why her dog is barking. She goes upstairs, where the Mexican murderer is putting a silencer onto his gun. Luckily, he decided to just pinch the gift, and flee out the window instead. Margarethe comes upstairs, closes the window, frowning - no idea she is lucky to still be alive!
