Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. This episode begins with a flashback to Jimmy's teenage years.

Answer: False

It's actually Kim's teenage years. She is sitting nervously in the manager's office of a department store in her Nebraska hometown of Red Cloud. She's been caught trying to steal earrings and a necklace.
The manager soon enters, followed by Kim's irate mother. After convincing the manager to let her pay a reduced price for the stolen items, she angrily takes her daughter away. But outside, Kim's dishonest mother laughs and congratulates Kim. "Relax," she tells her daughter in the car "You got away with it."
That remark seems to get Kim thinking about future scams. And those earrings could be the same ones we've seen on her as an adult...
2. What relation is Cheryl Hamlin to Howard?

Answer: His wife

Before season 6, we had no idea Howard was married. Hopefully his marriage has been better; he sleeps in his guest-house and Cheryl seems perpetually annoyed with him! Howard informed his shrink in a prior episode HE has been religiously trying the shrink's marital advice. But Cheryl hasn't.
Cheryl will probably regret that in the not-too-distant future...
3. What is Dr. Caldera's surprising revelation?

Answer: He is leaving Albuquerque

Jimmy and Kim visit the vet late one night. They need a special chemical for their plan to discredit Howard. The vet tests it on Jimmy...and his pupils change! As expected, he looks just like a man with cocaine-eyes. How will Howard's clients and colleagues react when they see Howard's eye like that?
Then Dr. Caldera announces he is selling up soon. Jimmy asks why. The vet admits his criminal side-line has become too stressful; he just wants to be a vet from now on. He shows them his secret notebook of contacts (all in a strange code). Jimmy decides to buy the vet's "Little Black Book". It includes some business cards, including that of a vacuum-cleaner repairman. Now we know how Jimmy and Ed The Disappearer first came into contact.
SIX YEARS LATER: Saul badly needs Ed's services; he's on the run from the law. And when the authorities clean out Saul's home, they find a black notebook full of strange symbols. No idea what it is, they throw it in the trash...
4. Which one of the late Werner's men features in this episode?

Answer: Casper

Lalo, the cleverest of The Cartel's psychopaths, is still searching Europe for answers. Thanks to the item he pinched from the late Werner's home, he now has Casper's address. Poor Casper The Croatian is outside his woodlands home chopping wood (hence the name of this episode). When Lalo appears, Casper's first response is "This is private property. Are you lost?" Then the two men recognise one another. Before Casper and co left New Mexico, Gus and Mike directed them to build a phony chiller to trick The Cartel. Lalo and Casper briefly glanced at one another that day. Realising this creep is a dangerous criminal, Casper runs inside! Lalo chases after him.
Inside, Casper is able to briefly subdue Salamanca. But when his attention is diverted, Lalo grabs the axe and poor Casper is soon howling in agony on the cold concrete floor - blood pouring out below his left knee. Lalo tortures Casper into confessing everything about the secret underground construction.
Knowing Lalo, he probably sadistically thought "This guy hasn't got a leg to stand on!"...
5. Which former boss of Jimmy's has a chat to Kim after a court appearance?

Answer: Clifford Main

Cliff is impressed with Kim. For months, she's been doing nothing but pro-bono work. Cliff watches her defend a reformed black criminal who was stalked by a crooked white cop for months. Cliff admits he is concerned Kim is making the legal profession's equivalent of "minimum wage".

But Kim - with her heart of gold - keeps doing it anyway. Cliff tells her about the Jackson Mercer Foundation. Jackson Mercer organise Justice Reform, and now they are expanding. Cliff wants Kim to meet in Santa Fe. Kim's heart leaps.

She may have a new vocation soon! The only snag is the meeting is on the same day as D-Day (the day the plan against Howard takes place). But Jimmy tells her to go to Santa Fe anyway. He uses a WW2 analogy: Eisenhower didn't need to be on Omaha Beach.
6. What relation is Lenny-the-lookalike to Judge Casimiro?

Answer: They probably aren't related

Jimmy/Saul is working late that night in his new office. He and his friends the film students are dressing up a supermarket worker named Lenny. Lenny, once they put a suit and false moustache on him, will be the spitting image of Rand Casimiro. Casimiro is a retired judge from out of town.

He has been asked by Howard and co to mediate the Sandpiper class action suit (Casimiro has an unusual handlebar moustache). But why do Jimmy and Kim want photos of a phony Casimiro?
7. Who does Mike telephone that night?

Answer: His family

All of Gus's men are on the alert for Lalo. They are stretched thin across Albuquerque in case he makes a sudden appearance. They are even tailing Jimmy and Kim, as well as keeping watch on Stacy Ehrmantraut's house. Gus's goons tell Mike that the latter is pointless; Lalo probably doesn't even know about Mike's family.

But Mike is not taking any chances! He joins the guards that night and phones his granddaughter when she's using the telescope in the front yard. Stacy and Kaylee would have been astonished to learn Mike wasn't out of town at all; but in the house opposite. Five years later, when Mike runs from the police and leaves Kaylee on the swings, one must wonder if she ever forgives him. Mike was murdered by Walter White and his body never found. So the authorities, in their search, probably had to tell the Ehrmantrauts what "Pop-pop" was really like.
8. What surprising news does Howard's PI have for Howard?

Answer: McGill withdrew a large sum of money

Genidowski visits his client Howard Hamlin one morning with photographs. They're photos of Howard's least favourite person: James McGill, aka Saul Goodman. For some reason, Saul withdrew approximately $20,000 in cash. As Howard tells Genidowski, he cannot think of any LEGAL reason anyone would need that much money. Suspicious, suspicious...
9. What future infamous client of Saul's also uses the Craddock Marine Bank?

Answer: Walter White

This is what's known as an "Easter Egg". Clever Vince Gilligan, Peter Gould and co every so often drop them into "Better Call Saul" episodes. Easter Eggs are subtle or not-so-subtle references to the original show "Breaking Bad". For instance, Walter White aka Heisenberg visited this bank in the pilot episode to get the money to buy his infamous RV.
10. Who does Jimmy/Saul unexpectedly come across in the liquor store?

Answer: The real judge

Jimmy has never been so happy! The incredibly intricate plan they concocted to humiliate Howard and settle the Sandpiper case concludes today (D-Day). So Jimmy decides to treat himself and buy the fictitious (and very expensive!) Zafiro Aņejo brand of Tequila. But in the liquor store, who does he see? None other than the REAL Rand Casimiro, the retired judge. And guess what? He has an alarm in a sling.
Uh-oh! Lenny, the phony judge in their photos, has no sling.
Jimmy quickly phones Kim. She's driving out of town, halfway to her important meeting in Santa Fe. Jimmy advocates aborting the plan, but Kim disagrees. They will probably never have another opportunity like this again.
So she says "It happens today." and quickly performs a U-turn on the highway (lucky traffic was light!).
