Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. How did this episode get its name?

Answer: All these reasons

The episode begins in the back of a moving Recreational Vehicle (RV). A bound and gagged amoral attorney named Saul Goodman is rolling around on the floor. He has no idea the two masked men kidnapping him will (a) become regular clients and (b) ensure that he never practices law again.

He assumes they're from a certain Mexican Cartel in part because they drag him out to the desert to a freshly-dug grave!
2. In which month of 2010 is this episode set?

Answer: November

Poor Francesca, former receptionist to the missing disgraced lawyer Saul Goodman, has been harassed by the cops for months. Phone-taps, mail opened, etc. Back in September, the police announced Goodman's former client Walter White was found dead at a shoot-out on his 52nd birthday. (Coincidentally today's actually Saul/Jimmy/Gene's 50th birthday.)
Francesca has no idea where her former boss lives. But before he fled town, he promised her a large fee if she were to stand by a certain public phone on November 12th at 3pm. As promised, it rings on the dot.
"Gene" hopes his old employee is going to say it's now safe to access lots of hidden funds since Walt is dead. But no, the authorities found it all. Saul/Gene curses!
Francesca adds that the death of "the maestro" only made matters worse. Police now tail her more than before. (Luckily they don't seem to have done so today!)
3. What happened to Kim after she left Albuquerque?

Answer: She moved to Florida

Angry and appalled at Francesca's bad news, Gene/Saul/Jimmy begs for at least one bit of good news. Francesca has some: his ex Kim Wexler phoned months ago. She wanted to know if Francesca was OK (still got a heart of gold, despite everything). Francesca adds Kim asked after him, and Goodman cheers up considerably.

She still cares about him after all these years! For years, fans of the show speculated Kim would be dead by now. But no. She's been living safely in Florida all this time. New job, new hairstyle, new boyfriend.

But she's still haunted by the trauma of 2004. Her life has never been the same since.
4. In a flashback to 2008, whom do we learn was the PI Saul hired to investigate the mysterious "Heisenberg"?

Answer: Mike Ehrmantraut

In seasons 2 and 3 of "Breaking Bad", Saul informed his new client Walter White he'd had to pay a PI to track him down - twice. Many speculated the PI was Mike, and they were right.
Visiting his least-favourite customer Saul's office, Mike reveals that "Heisenberg" is in fact a high school chemistry teacher. He warns Saul to stay away from him. "He's a complete amateur!"
The two men know of Walt's cancer. Mike adds "If the cancer doesn't get him, it'll be the cops or a bullet!"
A bullet does indeed take Walt's life two years later; actually one of his own. About a year earlier, Walt had murdered Mike in the middle of an argument. He may have been an amateur. But he got the better of all his enemies (except the DEA, of course!), and made Saul very rich.
But, according to Francesca, the authorities confiscated Saul's hidden riches. So perhaps he should have listened to Mike...
5. Which of his ex-wives does Gene/Saul/Jimmy decide to telephone on his birthday?

Answer: Kim

Saul once told Walt he'd been married THREE times. It turns out he was telling the truth. The first two wives lived in his Illinois hometown Cicero. Kim, of course, was the third. In Albuquerque.
After Francesca abruptly hangs up on her loathsome ex-boss, "Gene" drives away. His birthday not very happy so far...
He wisely drives a long way to another public booth. But on the way, he comes to a crossroads. This is fitting; he is figuratively at a crossroads. Trying to decide whether or not to contact Kim. He chooses to, but they argue, she hangs up, and he childishly kicks the phone booth. Glass everywhere.
6. Which of Saul/Gene's former criminal associates does he visit?

Answer: Jeff

Jeff the dodgy cab driver's life has become unpredictable ever since he bothered his legal idol Saul Goodman in the mall. Case in point: he comes home to find "Gene" talking to Marion. They're laughing like old friends. Jeff got her a laptop with his share of their heist, and Gene is showing Marion how to use YouTube. (Even back in 2010, YouTube had a wide range of videos.)
Once the two men are alone, Gene/Saul tells Jeff he has a new plan to make money. Needless to say, not a legal one.
"So we're back in business?" asks Jeff nervously. But he cannot disguise his eagerness.
7. Francesca reveals Jesse Pinkman is hiding in Alaska.

Answer: False

Thanks to Jesse's friend Skinny-Pete's quick thinking, no one knows where Jesse really is. Back in September, Jesse escaped captivity and hid in Skinny's home. The next morning, their other friend, Badger, drove Skinny's car to the Mexican border and hid it very poorly (intentionally). Skinny told the cops Jesse took his car. (In fact, Jesse took Badger's car - so eventually he got to Alaska - no one the wiser.) So, as Francesca informs her old boss, the police think Pinkman's hiding in Mexico somewhere. "Adios, Dope-head," she scoffs.

She had no more love for Pinkman than she did for Saul...
8. Whereabouts are Walt and Jesse arguing in Saul's 2008 flashback?

Answer: The RV, aka "The Crystal Ship"

"Gene" has been thinking a lot lately about how his life changed after he "met" Walt and Jesse. A certain memory comes back...
It's 2008 again. The three men are standing in the back of the RV, discussing future business. Jesse and Walt are arguing as usual. They decide to drive off.
But, just for once, their dilapidated vehicle won't start. While they're still arguing, Jesse asks Saul "Who's Lalo?". Saul had been convinced his old nemesis Lalo Salamanca had sent these rogues to kidnap him. Jesse adds there's no one "on the street" by that name.
Jimmy/Saul internally sighs with relief. This means Mike and co actually DID murder the despicable drug-lord back in 2004, after all! Saul has no idea his kidnappers actually had a hand in the recent death of Lalo's equally horrible cousin Tuco Salamanca.
Finally, the RV starts and the three future partners drive off, leaving the empty grave behind. But the grave transforms into Gene lying on his Omaha bed in 2010. Thanks to the new scams he's running with Jeff and Buddy, there's a sudden knock on the door. But it's not the police. It's a delivery: an electronic foot massager. Just like the one he had in Albuquerque. He smiles.
The creators of this show say the 2008-grave/2010-bed shot is meant to symbolise Saul's stupidity. The decision he made to join forces with Walt and Jesse dug his own (proverbial) grave.
9. What new scam does Gene pull off with Jeff and Buddy?

Answer: Drugging and robbing taxi passangers

Coincidentally, 2010 was the year many landline owners around the world started getting strange phone calls from con artists claiming to be Microsoft. But the three Omaha hoods have something less techie in mind.
"Gene", now calling himself "Viktor" for the first time since he left Albuquerque, befriends guys in bars. He calls a cab (naturally driven by Jeff!) who takes them home, and gives them a free bottle of water...drugged.
Buddy then sneaks into their homes (easy since the drugged water's put them to sleep!) takes photos of their credit cards, licences, bank accounts, etc. Then Jimmy/Viktor sells them to an unnamed "gentleman" for large sums. The victims won't know till at least a month has passed that they've been tricked.
10. What illness does Saul/Viktor's latest victim have?

Answer: Cancer

Buddy is appalled. Their latest victim takes the same cancer meds his father used to take. He lets the drugged poor man go home, and then leaves. Then the three thieves meet in Jeff's garage.
For weeks, their scam has been going well. They make lots of money, go to strip clubs together, pay waitresses to spend the night with them, etc. But now Buddy's conscience is troubling him. His father had cancer, too. Can't they just let this one go?
But "Gene," their leader, is adamant - they will rob this guy, too! Buddy and Jeff look up to Saul/Gene. But how could he do this to a dying man?! Saul adds he knows from experience it's possible for a man with cancer to be a jerk (he uses a stronger word than "jerk" but I can't reprint it). No prizes for guessing who he means...
