Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. All twenty teams successfully completed a Road Block during this season.

Answer: False

With the twenty competing teams split into two groups (one heading to Ouarzazate, Morocco in Leg 1 and the other to Marrakesh for Leg 2), all teams did have the opportunity to face a Road Block task, but one team, specifically Paul and Rachel, were unable to overcome the latter's panic attack in Ouarzazate to complete the challenge, instead incurring a time penalty that they served onsite at the challenge. They were eliminated in the same leg.

In Leg 1, team members had to complete a series of movie stunts at Atlas Studios while in Leg 2, team members ate preserved lemons in the markets of Marrakesh.
2. Leg 3's Road Block saw team members stacking soaps in what Moroccan city?

Answer: Chefchaouen

Eighteen teams(!) competed in the third leg of the race when they combined heats at the Spanish Mosque in Chefchaouen, the Blue City of Morocco. There, after an overnight stay, teams lined up to enter La Botica de la Abuela Aladdin, a soap store, in groups of three to search for a marked stack of soap they would need to replicate in size and colour in the streets outside using provided materials.

This task was completed by Claire, Angel, Kathy, Tiffany, Reem, Gabby, Lilli, Mori, Sam, Jamus, Kelly, Vincent, Tottie, Stu, Steph, Glennon, Toni, and Holly; that's nine teams-worth of people!
3. In Izmir, Türkiye, team members made and ate which of these Turkish foods for their Leg 7 Road Block?

Answer: Kokoreç

Opted into by Mori, Angel, Lilli, Jamus, Tiffany, Flick, Fliss, Vincent, Steph, Georgia, Toni, Claire, and Crystal, this solo task had teams visiting a restaurant by the name of Kokoreççi Asim Usta in the city of Izmir, Türkiye to prepare a meaty meal. To do this, they had to head into the kitchen and clean sheep intestines before wrapping them evenly onto a metal skewer to be cooked. Once delivered to the storefront, the selected team member would get a plate of cooked kokoreç that they had to eat before getting their next clue.
4. In Leg 8, team members learned the art of glassblowing in Nazarköy. Which of these glass trinkets did they have to make?

Answer: Evil eye

Also known as a nazar, the evil eye of Nazarköy was the focus of Leg 8's Road Block which sent teams into the villages of rural Türkiye. Heading to a glass-blowing workshop, the participating racers had to learn the intricate process of taking molten glass, stacking it, and flattening it while hot to make an evil eye design to the liking of the professionals. Frankie, Chelsea, Pako, Morgan, Heath, Flick, Tammy, Tottie, Georgia, Cynthia, Steph, and Claire had their eyes on the prize for this tough challenge.
5. The only Road Block that teams encountered in Colombia was in which of these cities?

Answer: Medellín

Though teams visited Bogotá first (in Leg 10) and Cartagena after (in Leg 12), they reached Medellín in Leg 11, starting outside the city but returning around dinnertime for an eating challenge at their Road Block. For this, one member of each pair (Pako, Frankie, Glennon, Toni, Flick, and Jamus) had to dig into two plates of delicacies in Comuna 13, notably a salad with pig's eyes and tripa de cerda, or chitterlings, before heading to the Pit Stop.
6. Leg 15 (on Caye Caulker in Belize) saw two Road Block tasks wherein the second task needed to be completed by the team member who did NOT complete the first.

Answer: False

Though the leg did feature two Road Blocks, there was no restriction on who could complete the second Road Block. The first task here involved searching the waters at Shark Ray Alley for marked conch shells on the seabed while the second involved timing a bike ride down a short street to be at least two and a half minutes (without touching the ground and while hauling coconuts). Though all other teams split their Road Blocks, Kelly and Jodie did both.
7. Visiting Mérida, Mexico in Leg 17, team members had to count coloured papel picado in a city street. Ultimately, what happened during this task?

Answer: Teams gave each other the answers

By the time teams reached the Road Block in Leg 17 they'd already raced through the entirety of a leg in Campeche City, hit a Virtual Pit Stop, and kept on racing through an entire leg in Mérida. Unfortunately for them, the Road Block continued on to another Virtual Pit Stop from which teams headed deeper into the Yucatan to Izamal.

The papel picado Road Block, however, had teams counting the correct pink flags hanging over Calle 64 to get a total of seventy-nine (of three thousand!). Once one racer got the number (it was Toni), all the rest followed suit.
8. In Leg 18, team members had to create a flower near the city of Izamal using which technique?

Answer: Embroidery

Leaving Izamal toward the end of Leg 18 (and their third leg of the race with no rest at a Pit Stop), team members had to take a seat and learn how to embroider, copying a traditional flower design given to them by local women. Frankie, Heath, Georgia, Cynthia, Pako, and Lauren were chosen to take on this meticulous task and could only head onward, ninety minutes east to the Pit Stop, if they got it right-- a tough task if only because of the exhaustion.
9. In Perth in Leg 19, racers completing the Road Block had to learn facts about Australian aviation history, doing so from where?

Answer: The cockpit of a plane

Returning to Australia in Leg 19, five teams raced to Perth and headed directly to the Royal Aero Club at Jandakot airport where they could take a seat in a small aircraft and fly into the sky, performing aerial maneuvers while taking notes for a pop quiz they would receive when they landed on the ground. If Toni, Pako, Cynthia, Angel, and Kelly could get five questions about Australian aviation correct, they wouldn't need to go back into the air for another spin (and none of them did).
10. The final Road Block of the race had teams searching amongst which of these-- truly a needle in a haystack-- for a button?

Answer: Sandcastles

Racing through Broome in the final leg of the race, team members encountered two Road Block tasks, the first of which required that they collect and peg oysters looking for a pearl and the latter of which required a great deal of luck and endurance. Heading to a local hotel to collect a bucket and shovel, racers headed to Simpsons Beach to search amongst two hundred sand castles for one containing a red-and-yellow mother of pearl button. If they could locate it, they could proceed to the final task of the race.
