Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Leading into Leg 7, as teams flew to Izmir, Türkiye, Beau contracted COVID-19 and was forced to quarantine in Greece. He was replaced at this leg's Pit Stop by which of these?

Answer: A robot

Ripping open their clues at the Arachova Clock Tower in Greece, teams were told to fly to Izmir, Türkiye. What they would come to find out was that not only would still-quarantining racers Kathy and Chace continue to sit out through the sixth leg, but they would be joined on the sidelines by positive-testing Stuart and Glennon and show host Beau Ryan, who would remain in his hotel room until his mandatory quarantine ended. He would be replaced on the race course by Scott Tweedie, at least until that quarantine was up, but in this leg teams were greeted by a robot.

Upon arriving in Izmir, three hundred kilometres across the Aegean Sea, teams proceeded to the L'Agora Old Town Hotel, leaving the airport in the order they finished the previous leg, and learned how to perform a traditional belly dance.
2. In Leg 7, teams needed to ride on a magic carpet through the streets of Izmir, but the carpet was actually on which of these?

Answer: A skateboard

If teams could nail their belly dance, they could grab their next clue and head to Dr. Mustafa Enver Bey Cd. to find their next challenge, navigating the streets of Izmir on a magic carpet ride. The catch was that their scooter would be on the top of an electric skateboard which the riding team member would be able to ride while their partner could partly control from the sidelines.

Not only did the riding team member need to navigate around cones and obstacles on a marked course, but they needed to stop their ride in a designated spot to receive their next clue.
3. The Road Block in Izmir (in Leg 7) required that team members make and eat kokoreç, a dish made with which type of meat?

Answer: Sheep

If teams could pilot their magic carpet ride, they could tear open their Road Block clue and pick their participant. For this one, they had to choose 'someone who's feeling sheepish' and head to the Kokoreççi Asim Usta where they would join a local chef in making kokoreç. To do this, they needed to take a large skewer and wind fresh sheep intestines and stomach lining around it to prepare the delicacy. Once they completed the raw version, they could receive a cooked plate that they needed to eat clean to get their next clue. Mori, Angel, Lilli, Jamus, Tiffany, Flick, Fliss, Vincent, Steph, Georgia, Toni, Claire, and Crystal completed this task.
4. Teams used poles to transport gevreks through Izmir in Leg 7. What type of food is a gevrek?

Answer: Bread

Teams needed to make their way to the Kemeralti neighbourhood of Izmir for their last task in Leg 6 and, once there, they needed to use traditional poles to carry one hundred gevreks each, delivering them to the street cart at the entrance of Kizlaragasi Hani to receive their next clue. If they could get all two hundred of these circular breads to their destination without dropping them and while keeping their poles above their shoulders, then their deliveries would count for the task.
5. Which team was eliminated from the race at the end of Leg 7 (in Izmir)?

Answer: Crystal and Reem

Teams who delivered their gevreks would get their last clue, grab a marked taxi, and proceed to Cumhuriyet Meydani on the edge of the Aegean Sea, the location of their seventh Pit Stop in a race around the world. Angel and Frankie were first to leave the final task and arrive at the mat where, in the absence of Beau Ryan, they were greeted by a robot and informed that they won a family vacation to Nickelodeon World at SeaWorld. It would be their third win of the race.

At the end of the leg, Crystal and Reem were the last to step foot on the mat, hitting the Pit Stop after setbacks throughout the day. The friends were eliminated from the race as a result.
6. Teams had to follow a navigation app to their first destination in rural Türkiye in Leg 8. Where did they end up?

Answer: A farm

It was from Izmir Clock Tower that twelve teams started their eighth leg of the race, opening their clues in Konak Square in the order they arrived at the Pit Stop in the previous leg. To kick this stretch of the race off, teams had to make their way to a marked car and, using the navigator app on a provided phone, punch in coordinates that would take them to Manisa Province, east of Izmir. Driving themselves they would find Kimiz Farm in the village of Nazarköy at the end of their directions, and there they would need to fight a Turkish oil wrestler (together), pushing him out of the ring in under three minutes to get a new clue.
7. In Leg 8, teams had to make a Turkish talisman in Nazarköy in rural Türkiye, crafting it from which material during their Road Block?

Answer: Glass

Teams who beat their wrestlers in the ring got their Road Block clues next, and this time they had to choose a participant with 'an eye for detail'. In this challenge, both team members had to drive to a nearby workshop and participating racers needed to hand-make a glass bead-- an evil eye-- creating their own talisman. If they could properly work their glass and make a bead in line with the glassblower's standards, they could get their next clue. Frankie, Chelsea, Pako, Morgan, Heath, Flick, Tammy, Tottie, Georgia, Cynthia, Steph, and Claire were selected for this challenge.
8. Which team completed the 'Street Procession' Detour task in Leg 8?

Answer: Angel and Frankie

Once teams got the prize for their (evil) eyes, they could drive onward to the town of Kula, deeper into rural Türkiye, where they could choose one of two Detour options themed around a local spring festival. The first of these options, 'Street Procession', had teams donning local garb and learning the traditional folk dance performed in Kula. If they could perform it in a parade, they could get their next clue. Angel and Frankie, Heath and Toni, Pako and Mori, Flick and Gabby, Morgan and Lilli, and Tammy and Vincent completed this challenge.
9. Teams completing the 'Sweet Obsession' Detour task in Leg 8 had to wrap which of these Turkish treats?

Answer: Mesir paste

Teams not opting to complete 'Street Procession' could instead complete 'Sweet Obsession', which sent them to the streets of Kula to take part in a local custom wherein visitors to the mosque could catch a wrapped treat thrown into the air and into the crowd. One team member needed to wrap mesir paste sweets in gold foil and, tossing them over their shoulder from a balcony, allow their partner to collect them using an umbrella in the street below. Once the street-level team member caught fifty sweets, they'd get the next clue. Chelsea and Jamus, Fliss and Tottie, Kelly and Georgia, Jodie and Claire, Lauren and Steph, and Tiffany and Cynthia completed the task.
10. Which team was eliminated from the race in Kula, Türkiye?

Answer: Tammy and Vincent

Once teams ended off their Detour tasks, they ripped open their final clues to find that they were directed, on foot, to the next Pit Stop waiting at The Gentlemen's House in Kula. Teams were greeted by Scott Tweedie, their interim host while Beau waited out his COVID-19 quarantine period in Greece, and it was at this spot that Angel and Frankie won their second leg in a row and their fourth winning leg of the race overall.

Chelsea and Jamus were unable to check in at their original placement (of third) as they did not bring their bags with them to the Pit Stop. They still managed, however, to arrive in eleventh, eking out Tammy and Vincent who were eliminated from the race.
11. Leg 9 took teams to the Turkish town of Alaçati, located where?

Answer: The Aegean coast

Making their way to the Gentlemen's House in Kula, Türkiye at the end of the previous leg of the race, teams started Leg 9 in the order they arrived with only eleven teams running through this segment. It meant they would rip open clues sending them back to the city of Izmir and then further west to the coastal town of Alaçati, a picturesque fishing village.

They could head on foot to the town square to get their next clue.
12. In Alaçati, teams had to grab which of these from local vendors in the Town Square (if they could)?

Answer: Ice creams

Reaching Alaçati Town Square, all teams needed to do to get their next clue was collect two ice cream cones from local street vendors. The catch (of course there's a catch) was that teams wouldn't necessarily know that Turkish ice cream vendors are also street performers, able to maneuver the ice creams to keep them away from their patrons.

It the teams could grab the cones, undamaged and by any means, they could keep racing.
13. Though not regarded as a Road Block, only one team member needed to complete the JetCar task in Alaçati in Leg 9.

Answer: True

Although only one team member needed to complete the challenge found in the clear bay at Çark Plaji, it was still an Active Route Info challenge. Driving to the waterfront, the one selected team member hopped into an amphibious sports car and, driving out into the water, needed to perform a figure eight around marked buoys and two doughnuts, clockwise, around another within ninety seconds before parking the vehicle at shore in order to collect their next clue.
14. The final task in Alaçati (in Leg 9) required that teams find a piece of Turkish delight that was which colour?

Answer: Yellow

After the JetCar task, teams needed to drive themselves back into downtown Alaçati to find Bum Alaçati. There, teams would have both hands tied behind their backs so that they could search, face-first, through a heaping bowl of icing sugar. Each bowl would contain thirty pieces of Turkish delight buried in the icing sugar, but only one amongst the several would be yellow. If they could pluck the yellow one out, they could trade it for one last clue.
15. Which team was last to land on the Pit Stop mat in Alaçati, Türkiye at the end of Leg 9?

Answer: Morgan and Lilli

To end off this leg of the race, teams needed to proceed on foot to Scott and their ninth Pit Stop at Alaçati Degirmenleri, a series of centuries-old stone windmills overlooking the city.

Angel and Frankie won their third leg in a row and their fifth of the race thus far, this time taking with them the extra prize of a six-night Northern Territory vacation getaway. At the back of the pack was Morgan and Lilli who, passed by Pako and Mori during the footrace from the final task, ended up finding themselves eliminated from the competition.
